On this final installment of our Mel Brooks deep-dive, we're talking about Mel's full circle moment with Silent Movie. Nearly a decade after reluctantly directing his own script, we find Brooks cashing in on the enormous clout he earned with opening Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein in the same year by forcing Hollywood to make the first silent movie it's made in 40 years. What unfolds is a true love-letter to the artform via some of the dumbest bits you've ever seen.
With that, our first director deep dive is now over and we've got the results in for the first miniseries poll. Thank you all for voting, the turnout was actually better than I was expecting so I'm excited to implement this format for some of our future miniseries.
The winner, at a pretty definitive 48% of the vote is our Satoshi Kon miniseries! We'll be starting that in a couple weeks with an episode on Perfect Blue. If all things go as planned we may actually be getting to Tokyo Godfathers right around Christmastime! We're incredibly stoked to be doing this series so it'll be a blast.
The runner-up was our weird Scary Fantasy Movies idea, so that'll be slotted in for the next poll. Last place was our IP Wasteland idea so that'll be in the penalty box for a round or two until we throw it back out there again. Again, thanks so much for voting and being patrons! We really appreciate it and can't wait to give you more chill, fun podcasts. New Discuss All Monsters next week!
