Update! + Plush

Just thought I’d give you an update on what I’ve been doing.
(besides the update video and TLoU PII essay)
I mentioned I wanted to pivot the channel into a different direction so this is my first step in this different direction.

I’ve bought a bunch of equipment! I already had a camera, but I wanted other stuff to step up the production quality. So things like a mic specifically for talking head shots, some lights, a teleprompter, and just some other stuff that I wanna see works with my setup. I’ve also refreshed my mind on some video stuff and learnt new things along the way. From codecs, to color grading, white balance, and just finding myself in rabbithole of camera related stuff.

Which led to me educating myself through testing out some things, seeing where my strengths and limitations are. (Also quickly finding out footage requires a lot of Disk Space, a lot more than my other videos did FUCK)

I initially felt bad ‘cause I thought I was just screwing around, but rediscovering this interest/excitement is the reason why I made the change in the first place! So it’s good that the ‘change’ is instantly showing some benefits. So pardon the bumpy ride as I learn a few new things. Hopefully the effort shows despite the growing pains!

Speaking of…

HERE’S ME FIGURING OUT COLOR GRADING FOR THE FIRST TIME, IT’S A NIGHTMARE AND I STILL DON’T FULLY GRASP IT

AND THE WORST THING TOO, ADOBE PREMIERE EXPORTS THE VIDEO WITH LESS CONTRAST AND SATURATION. SO I HAVE TO COMPENSATE BY MAKING MY VIDEO A BIT MORE CONTRASTED AND SATURATED SO IT OUTPUTS THE VIDEO WITH THE COLORS I REALLY WANT.

I JUST THOUGHT THAT I WAS AWFUL AT COLOR GRADING, BUT IT TURNS OUT PREMIERE WAS SPITTING OUT AN AWFUL VIDEO WITHOUT ME KNOWING (I’m still *bad/new* at color grading though, just not as bad as I thought)

SO THIS WAS ME TRYING OUT SOME STUFF, IT DIDN'T EVEN MATTER BECAUSE PREMIERE WOULD EXPORT THEM EVEN WORSE

SO I DISCOVERED A LUT THAT ADDS CONTRAST AND SATURATION THAT TAKES OUT THE GUESSWORK FOR ME, BUT IT DOESN’T DO IT PERFECTLY SO I HAVE STILL PUSH THE CONTRAST AND SATURATION EVER SO SLIGHTLY STILL. I ALSO FOUND OUT THAT MY MONITOR’S COLOR CALIBRATION IS GARBAGE BECAUSE I UPLOAD THE VIDEOS ONTO YOUTUBE THE COLORS THAT MY COMPUTER WERE ALL DIFFERENT TO MY PHONE AND LAPTOP

LOOK AT ALL THESE UPLOADS OF ME BEING PEDANTIC WITH THE COLORS---AAAAAAAAAAAH I HATE COLOR GRADING BUT I WANNA GET GOOD AT IT AAAH

It’s been an emotional rollercoaster, and who knew my love of color in drawing and motion graphics would bring me hell once I tried out color grading in Adobe Premiere Pro.

As much as I love After Effects for the video’s I’ve made, it’s not software built for editing footage off a camera - hence my venture into Premiere Pro and stepping up my game in this new field.

I’ve learnt how intuitive some of Premiere Pro’s features are… and how UNINTUITIVE A LOT OF IT IS. Thinking of switching to using Davinci Resolve since my knowledge of Premiere is fairly rudimentary, so it’s not like I’m starting from the bottom. And since Resolve’s color grading is top tier, I wanna see what that’s all about since… y’know… I LOVE working with colors.

If I can slowly get out of Adobe’s ecosystem, I'll be one happy lad.
