Doof! Canon - September Nomination Vote
Added 2022-09-19 17:51:33 +0000 UTCHey friends! It's that time again. Take a look at the list below and vote for the movie you'd like us to do this month's show on!
Note: we originally slated this episode to be this Friday, but due to a delay in getting the vote up (Way to go, Scott) it'll be pushed back to next week. This week's episode will be on Ridley Scott's A Good Year.
Grosse Point Blank (1997)

Martin Blank is a professional assassin. He is sent on a mission to a small Detroit suburb, Grosse Pointe, and, by coincidence, his ten-year high school reunion party is taking place there at the same time.
Written by D.V. DeVincentis and Steve Pink. Directed by George Armitage
Notes from the nominator:
John Cusack at his best: rapid fire dialogue, bangin’ soundtrack, 90s violence, and a crazy supporting cast that includes Alan Arkin as the beleaguered therapist for a psycho killer.
Parasite (2019)

Greed and class discrimination threaten the newly formed symbiotic relationship between the wealthy Park family and the destitute Kim clan.
Written by Bong Joon Ho and Han Jin-won. Directed by Bong Joon Ho
Notes from the nominator:
It's been a few years since Parasite stormed its way into the public discourse (and into the most prestigious cinema awards), and I think now is a great time to reflect back on what what the film is trying to say and whether it continues to stand up today.
Office Space (1999)

Three company workers who hate their jobs decide to rebel against their greedy boss.
Written and directed by Mike Judge
Notes from the nominator:
Hey, this movie is great. It's probably the best workplace comedy ever made, and as I have grown up with it and moved into a professional career where I get to experience the joys of office culture, it's only become more relevant and funny every time I watch it.
Also, this is a chance for Mike Judge to redeem himself after Idiocracy fell short. I feel like it's only fair to give his best movie (and one of the best comedies of all time) a chance!
The China Syndrome (1979)

A reporter finds what appears to be a cover-up of safety hazards at a nuclear power plant.
Written by Mike Gray, T.S. Cook and James Bridges. Directed by James Bridges
Notes from the nominator:
Timely disaster film highlighting the dangers of untrained staff, contractor fraud, and coverups in a nuclear plant. Jack Lemmon and Jane Fonda star in this tense thriller written and directed by James Bridges. The movie was released twelve days before the actual Three Mile Island disaster.
