Appreciate the praise and insight, dude!! Seems it like it was a helluva time to be a metalhead - not to be all "born in the wrong generation" since there's plenty of cool shit around now, but I kinda wish I was there to see heavy metal on the come-up back then.

Congratulations on completing part one!! Another great and informative deep dive! I definitely learned some new things about glam metal bands… and a short history of L.A. I’ll never watch Dragnet the same way again. I also jotted down a list of cool Japanese bands I need to check out! So, early ‘80s was a musical sweet spot for me. It was when I was finally able to buy albums that spoke to me. You know… the one’s I thought my friends thought would be cool. Haha! My parents, sister, grandma ($$) still had to drive me to the local TG&Y store to buy them. And let’s not forget… a HUGE THANKS to the Columbia House cartel. I was going through that impressionable teen transition from middle to high school... scribbling VH all over my school book covers. ‘83 was the year I started playing guitar with my buddies, thanks to that first Van Halen album that someone left behind after one of my sister’s keggers. Someone also punched a hole in our living room wall during that “unauthorized” party. That year, it seems like Def Leppard just came out of nowhere. I joked with my friend in ’83 that you couldn’t turn on a radio without hearing a Def Leppard tune. Kinda true. I was hooked when Def Leppard’s “Photograph” video appeared on Friday Night Videos. I remember constantly fast forwarding and rewinding our Betmax player to get a glance at that beautiful, black, 1980 Ibanez Destroyer that Phil Collen played. I wanted that sooo bad. I did get to see Def Leppard (and Krokus) live in ’83. Then Loverboy a few months later. Headbands off to Paul Dean’s guitar work on “Take Me To the Top”. It still sizzles! Oh, Zebra opened for Loverboy that tour. Man, what a great debut album they had. In ’84, of course, I HAD to see Van Halen (and Autograph, not so much). VH did not disappoint. I can actually say, I’ve seen every incarnation of Van Halen perform live. Even with Gary Cherone. Later, that summer I saw Motely Crue and Waysted open for Ozzy Osbourne. Crue’s energy really blew Ozzy away that day. It didn’t help that Ozzy keep apologizing throughout his show. Weird. I have to admit, I was being swayed away from the metal bands after ’83. It began when I traded my Judas Priest “Screaming for Vengeance” and Iron Maiden “Piece of Mind” albums for The Police’s “Ghost in the Machine” & “Zenyatta Mondatta”, which sent me on a whole new trajectory. No Regrets. So, I just wanted to emphasize how enthralled I was by part one. Especially, some of those extra nuggets you added in. I was wondering if you were gonna go there with a certain Christmas album & [spoiler] connection. You did! Haha! You do have a great talent in your narratives of dropping small crumbs of information along the path, only to return to it later, making that storyline more impactful. I had heard of Hanoi Rocks but, honestly, never heard of [spoiler]. By the end you had me…. Well [No spoilers]. My wife even walked through the room a few times and asked, “Is he still talking?”. I told her, “It’s a deeeeep dive, Babe” and that she needs to watch this too!! She’s more of a metal-head than she’ll admit. Anyway, thanks for doin’ what you do in an entertaining way!! I’m gonna recommend it to all my music loving friends. Can’t wait for parts two & three!!

It's a pretty good song, and definitely in that vein! Can't say I listened to that much Icon beyond that for the rest of the video tho - I might cover them a bit more next time

Rezi loved the first part of your glam metal history. Will be waiting patiently for part 2. Also loved that you mentioned Icon and used their song On Your Feet. I don’t know about you but I feel that song is like a rowdier version of Quiet Riot. Thoughts?
