If you have sufficient interest and time and energy (etc) maybe you could give your insights on the dynamic behaviour of the Milky Way? You have mentioned in passing that interstellar navigation/communication/travel is difficult because we don't know where we should point our laser / Starship etc. How dynamic is it? Is it like a slowly rotating bowl of breakfast cereal or a hail storm? :)
