I don’t want to defend Brand, but I’m not a fan of judging peoples reactions when they witness something startling and gruesome. What can sound callous is often a defensive reaction. I do think it is callous how quickly Brand folded the murder into his grift, but I don’t like the way we too often assume how people “should” react to events. I’m reminded of Alex Jones accusing the Sandy Hook parents of being actors because they briefly smiled shortly after the tragedy.
