Murder is illegal and killing human beings is almost always wrong, but especially over disagreement or disgust at the victims’ speech or beliefs, regardless of how vile. It’s hard to take the Right’s outrage at this killing, regardless of perp, not only because of their glee at having a martyr, but mostly because of their nearly rabid support for a lawless and murderous administration, who blew away a boat of individuals who were civilians and in a zone where the USA is (was?) not at war AND issuing illegal orders, mis-using military people & weapons contrary to U.S. domestic law, treaties and international humanitarian law. The USA is signatory to treaties and alliances, which means any live fire must be in immediate self defense, which Rubio even said wasn’t applicable in the action in the carribean. Even in the “high seas”, Nation States including the USA has international obligations as well as domestic laws that must be followed by everyone except the potus personally, apparently. However: article 2 empowers the exec to faithfully exercise the laws, not do whatever potus & cronies feels like doing. Domestic laws and international laws against murder, and inappropriate use of military force - all of which applies - not the UCMJ, even for the personnel from trigger person up the chain, eventually - since the USA is not in any actual armed conflict anywhere (officially) but definitely in the carribean, ffs. Gitmo doesn’t even have minefields anymore, iirc.

I understand where people are at when they're annoyed with the expression media is displaying about 'violence isn't the answer', or the backlash to the, I think very reasonable, observation that his sort of manner begets violence - it's not that he deserved it, it's that being horrible facilitates and encourages awful things - only sometimes does it whip around and hit you, most of the time that violence goes outward into the world and many don't get to see for what it is. Either way, it begets that violence. It doesn't imply at all that I think violence is "justified". I wish we could have better conversations about this, we should talk about that more, not less. I'm usually annoyed by some of the big-brain takes out there, but this time I'm pretty disappointed about the small-brain takes I'm seeing.

Especially not in front of his wife and young children. All this achieves is to make him a martyr for the far right and an excuse to crack down even more on the left.
