Hey all! Like I’ve mentioned, I’m embarking on indie game dev stuff. Been mulling over ideas for a few months while I wrapped up my VN and thought about what was next, and I think I have something I wanna run with.

It’s a top down bullet-hell action roguelike where everyone but you can shoot magical bullets. All you can do is knock them back with your baseball bat.

 

You play as a baseball player that finds himself in a dream world filled with cute but hostile beings.

You’re not defenseless. Reflect their bullets back at them with your trusty bat. Your stamina runs out with each swing, so you’ll want to graze (get close without touching) the bullets to recharge.

Send ‘em back with interest!

The goal is to make a casual roguelike that encourages a bit of risk with getting close to damaging bullets and greatly rewards players who do. As you go you’ll be able to collect upgrades that combine and synergize in fun ways that help you clear rooms safer and faster so you can get to the boss.

What i’m thinking now is similar in structure to hades or slay the spire where there are levels with enemies you need to clear. Once you clear a level you choose what you want to take on next. If your build is good you might want to take on harder challenges for even more rewards, or if you’re struggling you might need to rest now and try to save your run later in the act. More risk reward mechanics like that I think are fun!

Sounds fun. How are you setting up the map? Cup head was pretty fun. I like the dungeon crawler format a lot too. Or is the player the center of the map with enemies spawning around them. Or is the main opposing force limited to one side of the screen like in the classic games. Honestly a lot of potential in this genre, and the gimmick where you countering to attack could provide a decent challenge without being overwhelming for new players.
