Episode 73: (hed)pe Articles
Added 2025-09-08 18:30:53 +0000 UTCI know the episode only came out on Friday, but for those of you who have had a chance to listen already, I know you'll be dying to read these articles. Tons of stuff in here we couldn't even get to on the show that is as equally insane as the stuff we did discuss on the show. Enjoy.
The OC Weekly: "Not So Head, Not So (pe)" (November 25, 1999)
A glorious look at a 90s rarity: a female journalist taking a misogynist band head-on with regards to their nasty attitudes towards women. Jared also says some really insane stuff about how a song isn't necessarily a reflection of his entire life, but just a moment...except you do have to sing those songs forever (or at least deal with the fact they were recorded). Make sure you click through all three pages.
KindaMuzik: "(Hed) Planet Earth: Interview" (January 13, 2002)
Bassist Mawk discusses why (hed)pe seems to sell out tours but can't sell any records, reiterates the lyrics are all Jared, man, and he wants to have a threeway with Britney Spears and Jennifer Lopez.
V13: "Interview with (hed)pe Frontman Jared Gomes" (June 26, 2006)
We did have to skip ahead to "BACK 2 BASE X"-era (hed)pe for this one (and yes, that is actually the album title) but Jared is once again left to defend his lyrics, ducks the nu-metal allegations, and admits he was inspired by the FCC trying to censor Howard Stern.
Music Existence: "Interview with (hed)pe" (February 18, 2015)
In where bassist Mawk talks about how much he hates touring and portends his departure from the band a few months after this interview was done, and he tells the insanely untrue story about being responsible for the end of Tommy Lee's sobriety and subsequent assault of Pamela Anderson.
