Episode 73: (hed)pe Articles

I know the episode only came out on Friday, but for those of you who have had a chance to listen already, I know you'll be dying to read these articles. Tons of stuff in here we couldn't even get to on the show that is as equally insane as the stuff we did discuss on the show. Enjoy.

Y'All Want a Single #112: "Time 2 Shine" by E-Town Concrete

Thanks to Shane, we are covering the boys from E-Town for the first time on the show, as we dive into this song that is almost purely hardcore. Having heard from some other listeners that they eventually turn a bit more towards rap-metal, we listen to those songs to, and this might shock you....we like those more.

V.I.D.E.O. Kast #27: "The $UICIDEBOY$ Mix" w/ Libby Watson

Libby Watson (What's All This, Then?) returns to the show and thanks to Barksdale, we are covering something that is barely nu-metal (or maybe not nu-metal at all), a collection of songs by everyone's favorite depressed trap-rappers, $UICIDEBOY$. Barksdale assumed we wouldn't like it, and they were right. Except for Bryan. He weirdly does, for some reason. We break it all down here!

Y'All Want a Single #111: "Holy Man" by One Minute Silence

Thanks to Tom, we are hopping across the pond to cover Irish nu-metal band One Minute Silence, a band who hit it big as one of the UK's leaders in nu-metal, but never made much of an impact stateside. It's "deep guy month" here on the POD Kast as "Yap", the lead singer of OMS, has some pretty deep ideas about how the world works, man. This band definitely listened to a lot of Rage Against the Machine and a lot of Tool, and the song turns out pretty good despite all of that.

Episode 72: 30 Seconds to Mars Articles

Usually I wait a few more days after the episode is out before I make the Articles post, but let's be honest, if you've listened to the episode: you wanna read these. Jared Leto is maybe the dumbest person we have ever covered. Enjoy it all.

Y'All Want a Single #110: "System" by Jonathan Davis

Sarah won the POD Kast Lotto, and decided that we should go back and review the Jonathan Davis version of the Queen of the Damned soundtrack song, "System". As you may recall, we did review that OST WAAAAY back on BONUS Kast #8, and we covered the versions of these songs done by other artists, due to JD's contractual issues with Sony. Well, now we are taking a peek at the J-Devil version and revisiting all that sweet, sweet, QOTD lore. It's a fun one!

B.O.N.U.S. Kast #70: "12 Stones" by 12 Stones w/ Riviera

Thanks to Josh, we are back on our Christian Rock tip and we've got Riviera (Nu-Metal Agenda) returning to discuss her Youth Group past and how 12 Stones stacks up in the Christian Bookstore aisles. We wonder aloud who exactly this music is for and why it exists, we check in on what 12 Stones are up to now, and we dig deep on the "artist substitution" concept.

The August 2025 Poll

A reminder that next month is our $7 Tier EXCLUSIVE Poll, so if you aren't subscribing at that level, you may wanna do so now, as you'll get videos of all our bonus episodes, a vote in the Exclusive Poll, and a chance to win an album or a single as part of the POD Kast Lotto.

But for now, this Poll is open to everyone and it's a divisive one: two under-the-radar nu-metal staples or two butt-rock-ish albums that definitely owe a debt to nu-metal. You decide! Godspeed. Poll is open until ...

Y'All Want a Single #109: "Linda Claire" by Fleshwater

Thanks to Zach, we are hearing Fleshwater for the first time on this pod, a new nu band that's toured with Deftones and Bryan might be grumpy because he doesn't hate this song but he doesn't love it (John does though). We also discuss Bryan going to see Wu-Tang Clan on their big farewell concert tour.

It's not public, you still have to have to be a member, but it's just a little gift to those who are along for the ride with us even if they aren't a paying member of the Patreon. And what a month to do it, as these Slipknot articles are nuts, particularly the Metal Edge one. Enjoy.

Y'All Want a Single #108: "Stress Builds Character" by Dystopia

Thanks to Michael, it's our first time engaging with the band "Dystopia", and boy, do we not like it. This is the first band that multiple listeners have messaged us to say "wait you're covering THEM?!?!" as if everyone knew what was about to happen. We didn't. But we get into all of this song's interesting details here.

B.O.N.U.S. Kast #69: "Device" by Device

In many ways, it's all been leading up to this. Disturbed goes on hiatus with no immediate plans to return, and so David Draiman does an entire album with the guitarist from Filter. It is everything you want it to be, especially the song-by-song explainer videos the band inexplicably did in the wake of this album's release. We watch and review every single one of them along with this album. We have no guest because no guest could understand David Draiman the way we do. Enjoy. And thanks to Ma...

Y'All Want a Single #107: "The Truth" by Limp Bizkit

Thanks to Matt, we take a look at the last Limp Bizkit era we never really touched on: The Unquestionable Truth era. Technically Part 1 of said era, though we eagerly await Part 2. It was a weird time to be LB, as Wes Borland returned to the band and they promptly decided they wanted to be more like Rage Against the Machine. And that isn't us just guessing: Fred literally says it out loud, in interviews. Turns out Wes is pretty good at writing RATM riffs too, as this song does kinda go.

Y'All Want a Single #106: "High" by Jimmie's Chicken Shack

Thanks to Chris, we take a look at song that Bryan is VERY familiar with by virtue of being a teenager in the Midwest in the mid-90s and John has never heard before by virtue of being a Canadian who was 12 years old when it came out. Perhaps that contributes to their respective enjoyment of the song, as Bryan doesn't like it but it hits John in the right spot. We also examine the intelligence behind having a joke-y band name and album titles and what effect that has on a band.

B.O.N.U.S. Kast #68: "I Let It In and It Took Everything" by Loathe w/ Ryan Schaap

Thanks to Nat, Ryan Schaap (Hardest Podcast to Podcast) joins us to discuss one of the best new nu-metal offerings we have, the great "I Let It In..." by Loathe. We get into how being shaped by Deftones and early Slipknot probably makes for a great formula, why stuff like this is getting popular now, and since Ryan hosts a White Stripes podcast, we also talk a lot about the nu-metal-to-indie-rock pipeline.

Y'All Want a Single #105: "Werewolf" by Motionless in White

When Lorin was a guest on the Rankdown, he told us we had to listen to this song, so we gifted it to him as a YWAS, and it's definitely a fun one. Bryan's on the fence, John really likes it, and we are forced to decide whether or not Motionless in White is taking this all seriously or they're in on the joke. AWWWWWOOOOOoooooOOOOOOO

Y'All Want a Single #104: "I Go Solo" by Psycore

Thanks to Jean, we are taking a look at yet another weird Swedish nu-metal guy, the frontman for the band Psycore, who are making strange, electronica-adjacent nu-metal (at least on this track). Not sure what it was with these Swedes at the time making this music, but they're all weirdos, and this is another one. And the song is fine.

B.O.N.U.S. Kast #67: "70s Hits From the Pit" by Hed(pe) w/ Jason Lipshutz

Thanks to Michael, we finally cover the cover album of our dreams: Hed(pe)'s astonishing collection of covers that span the 1970s and some of that decade's greatest hits. Jason Lipshutz (writer) joins us to break down one of the more baffling decisions in nu-metal history, as this album has no idea what it wants to be, who it is for, and cannot justify its existence. But we discuss it anyway, as well as Jason's Linkin Park book, which yields some very unique insights into Bryan's favorite ban...
