Episode 70: Rage Against the Machine Articles
Added 2025-06-11 05:17:11 +0000 UTCIt's always great when we review a massive band because we get these sweeping cover stories that cover a lot of ground. A lot of really good reading material this month, enjoy.
TWEC: "Live Chat with Rage Against the Machine" (November 1, 1999)
I couldn't tell you what TWEC.com is, or why RATM did a live chat with them, but there's a very funny dichotomy here between the answers Zack and Tom give and the answers Brad and Tim give, I'll say that.
Rolling Stone: "The Battle of Rage Against the Machine" (November 25, 1999)
This is the article that really gives us the sense that the band did not like each other, at least in this time period. We also hear about Zack's strange upbringing, the political and musical mesh between him and Tom, and the writing process.
SPIN: "Enemies of the State: Rage Against the Machine Strike Back" (March 2000)
A great SPIN cover story that we didn't get a lot from that was good for the episode, but is a really solid read in where Zack dodges the interviewer for most of it and the band discusses their moving on from their manager in hilarious fashion.
NME: "Tom Morello Reflects on RATM's 2000 Split and Why They Didn't Record a New Album Upon Returning" (July 31, 2018)
When it seemed like Rage really didn't like each other, I wanted to try to find something from a bit later that confirmed that. It didn't take long.
