Xylogics microAnnex XL

We're hard at work on the next episode in the ISP series. Here's a sneak peek at one of the terminal servers we'll be looking at: the Xylogics microAnnex XL. We think this was originally released in 1993, with a fully configured MSRP of $3600.

We did not expect to see an Intel PGA chip when taking the cover off! Turns out it is a coprocessor designed specifically for the 10BASE* interfaces of that era. Datasheet here: http://www.bitsavers.org/components/intel/ethernet/i82596.pdf

Really cannot wait to get everything done for the video! Thanks again for all the support.

microAnnex boxes were great terminal servers... too bad they used a proprietary pinout for the device-side ports. If you're ever curious, this site is the gold standard for serial port pinouts: http://www.swindells.com/pinouts.htm#annexu

Can't wait to see the finished video. Circuit boards fascinate me as they look like well planned cities. Keep up the great work.
