For the time jumps, I think if the creator/writer Jacob Tierney had known that it'd be a huge hit, he maybe would have slowed it down a bit? But I think from his perspective, he got a miracle pick up for the show, got 6 episodes and figured he only had one shot to tell this story which is based on a book that takes place over like 10 years. So yeah he had to cram a decade into 6 episodes, which means a lot of time jumps. Things do start slowing down a bit towards the end of the season.

The timelines important (and a little confusing) but not as critical as the character acting. Others have commented where things that were misinterpreted so I won't go there. If you have the time, I'd totally recommend doing a rewatch with fresh eyes and without your notes just to re- validate your assumptions, but, I have to say, for your first watch, fricken awesome job picking up on so much! You're by far the most intuitive reactor I've seen, and noone clocks everything first time.

2026-01-09 13:59:23 +0000 UTCIlya absolutely does not text Shane in Sochi. He looks at Shane's text in the bathroom to show he's thinking of him, but he does not attempt to contact him. It's a pretty important beat because the sex scene at the beginning of the episode is Shane's first time having penetrative sex and so in the timeline of the show, between their first time and the awards show in Vegas, Ilya makes zero attempt to contact Shane after having shared such an intimate act, which you can imagine makes Shane feel pretty used, especially seeing as he tried to reach out to Ilya in Sochi and was rebuffed. It's part of why he's so emotional watching Ilya win the cup - he's proud of him, but he's still feeling so hurt. I love watching you get into the show, but I think you need to slow down and pay a little more attention to what's happening on screen at times because there have been a few times now you've made an incorrect assumption (like you thinking Ilya hooked up with his cousin, when he actually said 'coach's son,' aka Sasha) or missed an important story beat (such as the hints at Ilya's fathers dementia) that you're carrying forward as a part of your notes, and it's going to end up confusing you. We're all ok with you pausing more and rewinding, especially these first two episodes as they do really move at a breakneck pace. I would suggest rewatching them to make sure you have your notes in order before you get to episode 4 and 5 as these are sort of the building episodes and then 4 and 5 are the big shake ups. still loving the reaction! i just want to make sure you're getting a good viewing experience because when it all clicks this is such a great show.
