Talamasca: The Secret Order - Ep.1X1 "We Watch. And We Are Always There" UNCUT & UNCENSORED
Added 2025-10-26 18:59:21 +0000 UTC
NEW SERIES TIME! (As if I'm not already juggling so much between Patreon and YouTube lol) These will for sure go up here on Patreon, and maybe on YouTube if the first episode performs well. In any case, this should be relatively easy to keep up with as it's a weekly series and looks to be only six total episodes for it's first season.
So, as we wait impatiently for "The Vampire Lestat", let's get our Anne Rice fix right before the spoopiest days of the year >:D
What's the deal with the Talamasca, huh? Well, perhaps we'll find out as we jump into the latest entry in AMC's "Immortal Universe"...
Sooo, I'm back here now as I've managed to watch the first and 2nd eps and I found it a bit slow, but the one thing that stuck out to me and the OH was we both sat up and were like WTF - the random building they superimposed Parliament and the flag on is nowhere near the other and such a random choice to make to build mystery 😂
Otherwise, I like Burton, was a sweetheart I think. Jasper will be interesting I think. I need him and Daniel to meet. 😬

As a fandom we make fun of RJ a lot but what he's managed to accomplish with IWTV is genuinely hard to come across these days. The show is so great in every aspect that I take it for granted sometimes. In a time where audiences seem to settle so easily for mediocre television we are so lucky to have someone like him as our showrunner.

Woof, so this show is hitting super shallow to me, from my POV as a small local director/dramaturge/script sup/writer - not up to par with any of the current Good Shows in writing, acting, editing, etc, meaning the problem comes from the showrunners and directors more than anything. It feels very "tell, not show" with goddamn everything - why are you TELLING me all these things in the first ep? Why is the Talamasca telling all these things to this boy the day they meet him? Why do they have custom paper cash straps with their symbol on it if they're sooooo fucking mysterious? And WHY did they decide to shoot on the beach in the Florida scene where it looked unseasonable for beach shots and where the wind was whipping HARD meaning extra work with ADR/HMU/Costume.... very "our viewers are stupid and won't believe we're in Florida without a beach shot" but it felt random, pointless, and detrimental to that shot. Like I wasn't expecting this show to be on par with IWTV, but it's several steps weaker than Ted Lasso or Severance, too. Mayfair Witches is still somehow a bit worse, but this isn't great lmao. I don't feel emotionally invested in these characters. Ted Lasso got me invested in a fucking football coach in ten minutes, and I'm a sports-avoidant queer theatre adult. How do they slip this hard with "spy thriller doused in Anne Rice stink"?
As corny and nerdy as Rolin Jones is, he runs that show like a tight ship of pure art.

It seems like it might be better than Mayfair Witches but let’s face it, Interview is a hard act to follow.

I'm really into it so far. If you weren't aware, on the first official premiere date, Episode 1 and Episode 2 came out so it was a two episode season premiere.
Edit: I actually do agree, that you would find the Talamasca content in Mayfair very interesting.

My concern with this series is the lack of real source material. There isn’t a Talamasca book or series, just scattered mentions throughout the main Vampire and Mayfair Witches books. I’m worried that means a lot of filler and a noticeable drop in quality compared to Interview.
To be fair, Rolin Jones is a far superior showrunner to the team behind this and Mayfair Witches. But let’s be honest, Anne Rice’s source material for The Vampire Chronicles is also much stronger. Left to their own devices, will these showrunners end up creating something that feels like it has no business being part of the same universe? Or can they actually turn it into something that belongs? After watching episode 2.. my concerns are still very much the same.

The agent from Interview is Raglan James.

It wasn’t the most compelling interview was it? “I don’t get along well with others but I WILL burn myself out for this job!”
I guess if they want him to be a trial lawyer his argumentation style was pretty effective at the very end.

Yeah, I’m choosing to take it as a good sign… if our known Talamasca characters aren’t being used here there’s a good chance they will show up in the main show and I count that as a win!
Except for Aaron, I’m pretty sure he’s been fully turned into Cip in Mayfair 😭

This was fun! I really hope we get another scene with Jason Schwartzman’s character; he was such a standout for me. Elizabeth McGovern was also incredibly charming; I could totally see myself falling for her charms, joining the Talamasca, and meeting some terrible, poetic end. 🚂
Hard agree on that scene between Guy and his foster mother. I actually paused for a moment to decide whether I wanted to keep watching 😬. It was just so melodramatic and awkward. Maybe it’s because they were brand-new characters; we literally met the foster mother in that same scene, so there wasn’t much emotional weight behind it. The setting didn’t help set the mood either, haha.
The rest of it was totally fine though! I was so giddy to see Danny Boy Molloy on his vampire rumspringa! Like Valaree mentioned above, it’s definitely stronger than Mayfair, still, if it weren’t connected to my favourite show ever, I’m not sure this episode alone would’ve hooked me. 😅

Liking it a lot more than Mayfair at this point. I don’t know if I’d keep watching if it wasn’t connected to IWTV, but I’m hopeful it will go somewhere interesting!

I have to wait to watch this until I've seen EP1 with the OH first 😩

I was a bit turned off by the fact they chose to avoid borrowing book characters to make this show since there are a few they could've easily used, I can see the reasoning behind it (they're probably being kept under lock and key by Rolin & co for future IWTV seasons) but it does still feel like a missed opportunity. All in all, this wasn't nearly as bad as I expected it to be after Mayfair Witches... Burton queening out with Lestat when?

What's funny is if a fresh graduate applying for a internship ever did what Guy did, they would absolutely NOT get the internship.
