"The Vampire Lestat" FIRST LOOK (MovieMan Reaction & Analysis)
Added 2025-10-22 21:30:35 +0000 UTC
You asked for it, so here it is. At first I was worried that I wouldn't have much to say about this 3 minute "first look". Then I ended up yapping for over an hour lol
Here's the first section with my break-down of the trailer, I'll upload more in the coming days pertaining to some other interviews I watched as well >:D
Does AMC sell merchandise? Yes! They also sell very interesting soft beige pillows with Armand's face on them. It's a bestseller.

also i feel like it's pretty safe to assume (but who knows really) that the talamasca would've removed anything that was connected to them. notably, pretty much the entirety of 2x5 because daniel wouldn't have the original interview recordings (& enhanced) without them, and then of course the big one, which is the revelation in the finale about lestat saving louis, which is corroborated by the script w/ armand's notes that the talamasca provided. the exclusion of both would remove a lot of culpability from armand and of course, make it sound like lestat killed claudia. also the interview ended before louis goes back to NOLA to find lestat, so obviously nothing in the realm of the reunion that we saw as the audience is in the book daniel put out. no real closure and would probably result in lestat being depicted as a one dimensional villain. definitely would add a reason as to why neither louis or lestat are happy about it.

The thing about the in-universe IWTV book is that it wasn't supposed to be published after the big reveal about Armand. Louis burned Daniel's laptop at the end of season 2 and that meant the book thing was over. Louis didn't even read the book in the s2 finale. So Daniel and the Talamasca coming out with it anyway feels like it would be a slap in the face. And the Talamasca also took more liberties

I've watched this so many times but I've not seen others mention that Lestat clearly appears to be filming a music video during the day, hence the burnt up face and thick gloves.
Lestat hallucinates worse than Louis, maybe drug induced, because it's clearly way more people he's seeing.
That one split second of Lestat crying/screaming as a human is going to break me. I'm glad I'm not the only one that saw that and was like 😳
Can't wait to see how much more of a bitch Daniel can become now he's literally got nothing to lose.
Vengeful Louis with no fucks to give is going to be glorious.

The books go far into the present in their world, while also delving into the histories of specific characters (The Vampire Armand is the fifth?? or sixth book, entirely in his POV. He will always be a major character and he's not just jilted lover - in his 500 years as a vampire, Daniel is the first vampire he's ever created) and the final book has something to do with Atlantis apparently, I haven't read that far but it's in the book title itself. The Vampire Lestat AND Queen of the Damned are primarily set in the present (80s at the time of publishing) with significant flashbacks into characters past lives.
The overwhelming majority of the books are entirely Lestat POV, with Queen of the Damned (the third book) being an interesting departure where every chapter for the first half captures a different character POV. They do also react to each other's books and art in universe - including the fact that Daniel apparently uses the pen name Anne Rice rather than his own to publish Interview with the Vampire. Daniel even laughs at depictions of certain characters in Lestat's music videos at some point. DEEPLY fun and wild series, honestly.
We need more authors who just write for their own pleasure and make batshit stories about diva vampires. Anne apparently didn't really care much about Daniel, but he's SO central to the story, and the shit she wrote for his story in Queen of the Damned is some of my favorite storytelling ever, honestly. A lot of characters get interesting personality aspects fleshed out in that book, like straight up indulging in hobbies for pages. It's GREAT.

The "unofficial" trailer from SDCC included a few different scenes. That was still in the first quarter of filming. So it's not exactly the same official HD trailer that's been released now.

YEAH! Louis in Pimp-mode!
Please be careful in the comments when you upload the video to YouTube. There will be a lot of spoilers and a lot of writing about the new characters.
And I can only agree with the others... Don't watch anything that explains "Devil's Minion." It will be very interesting for you. But too big a spoiler for you right now! After season 3. But after that... with the knowledge... rewatch the first two seasons and it will be pure enjoyment.
The NYCC panel also contains too many spoilers.
Great reaction! I was waiting for this.

I don't think it's a spoiler, but while some books go into characters' backstories (most notable the five members of Coven of Articulate aka only vampires with their own books), most of the main plots takes place in modern time.
Also: other people already pointed this, but do not watch or read anything about Armand and Daniel! This might spoil for you a potential plot twist.
Oh, and how I laughed when you called Gabriella Ms. Cobel... Let's blame that wig. Can't wait for you to meet her. She's the worst and I love her for that.

Remember it wasn't just Daniel who had his hands on the story - the Talamasca edited it for publication. And no there's a lot of 'modern' content in the books. There are like 15 books lol

Absolutely none of it follows canon other than character names, and even then, they give them the entirely wrong roles in certain dynamics. It's my personal The Room by Tommy Wiseau and I 10000% recommend watching it honestly

The actress with the Blonde Hair is Jennifer Ehle. And boy oh boy.. wait until you meet her character.. You're in for SUCH a ride.

Imo Queen of the Damned (2002) is so far removed from the actual plot of the books and the canonical character dynamics that you could just casually watch it for fun without worrying about getting spoiled, Anne Rice hated that movie adaptation with a passion, the general consensus is that the only good things about it are Aaliyah's performance and the musical score.

I don't think the guy at the table is Marius. That's not the actor they've cast. I did though see someone post a still from the trailer with someone in background with a red coat/cloak (no face) who's much likelier to be Marius.

I wouldn’t regard these as spoilers as I’ve never read the books, just answering who some of the characters you asked about are.
The guy at the table with the dark longer hair is Magnus, though they have also cast Marius (Armand’s maker).
The guy who appears to have his hand cut off is Nicki (Nicholas, Lestat’s first lover who we heard about and saw in one flashback in season 1). He’ll definitely appear in flashbacks.
The woman with blonde hair is Lestat’s mom, Gabrielle.

Yes a lot of the modern day stuff is in the books too. Just modern day in the books was the 70s/80s/90s. The 1973 interview we saw in the show, where Louis is "eviscerating Lestat" got published and in fact some of the lines from the show are copied directly from the books. The show has just taken the publishing and the events after that and brought them to the 2020s.

The Long Face lyric video is a longer version of the Ooh ooh ooh song from trailer. There’s an additional verse.
I also pray that you avoid anything with the words “Devil’s Minion” in the title because you WILL be spoiled. When you added “explaining Devil’s Minion” to your queue, I immediately gasped.

DO NOT WATCH THE NYCC PANEL. Assad Zaman and the panel moderator got a bit carried away with spoilers lol.

Love it! I’m so hyped for next season!
DO NOT watch anything talking about Daniel and Armand or that “Devil’s minion” video unless you want potential spoilers. It’s all speculation at this point but likely to discuss plot points from later books that might happen in the show.

The books have a weird meta. They all exist as memoirs or interviews in the book universe. Without getting into spoilers, each is set in the year it was published, more or less. The “author” usually signs off with the their signature, location, and year.

April, allegedly. We’re all kind of going off of what Jacob let slip at SDCC.
