GF REACTS: IWTV - Ep.1X5 "A Vile Hunger for Your Hammering Heart" UNCUT & UNCENSORED

Yup. It's time for this one folks.... I know this goes without saying, but we have some rough waters ahead. Tensions rise in Dubai as boundaries are pushed. Trouble at home in New Orleans as a member of the "L&L Household" decides to set out on their own for a spell.

Watch as Darkwave attempts to hold on for the ride...

GF REACTS: IWTV - Ep.1X5 "A Vile Hunger for Your Hammering Heart" UNCUT & UNCENSORED

Comments

Kind of book spoilery ig even though it doesn’t matter that much but I just thought it was so interesting what she mentioned about Lestat’s behavior being indicative of having loads of fledglings siblings because it’s a good thought process but it relates more to his life as a human that actually had a lot of siblings lol

It's taken me an age to get around to watching this! I think everyone ends up so shocked with the final fight in this episode so Darkwave's hiding behind her hands so understandable, I think my eyebrows receeded beyond my hairline and my head was wrenched backwards so hard it might have become one with my sofa at the time. I liked the review on second watch. I don't think Lestat regrets his continued affair with Antoinette, you see this after they let him back and when he knows they're plotting to kill him. But I agree that if Louis would have taken him wholly he may not have as he'd receive the attention he wants, he's a high maintenance, high separation anxiety based creature. I feel like that photo of Lestat and the Yorkie with the same colour eyes is right on the nose.

Lestat told Claudia he read both her diaries. Louis only read the kill list part. Night of the 2 Louis’ would be our Louis and the performer Louis Armstrong.

Fuck Bruce!!!

GF reactions is so cute The cemetery scene Is so heartbreaking. I cry every time to.

Fransiska DeWindt

The night of the two Louis is a little bit simpler in meaning. Louis Armstrong is playing in town, so with Louis Armstrong playing and Louis watching, it will be two Louis

For Darkwave: gosh, i totally know what you mean when it comes to needing this show to marinate. It really sucks you in! I remember watching the last minutes of this ep through my fingers, jaw on the floor, in utter shock, dumbfounded. But honestly, I think you're doing great with your comments and theory crafting – there's so much going on in this show that i'm still discovering new things, even upon my umpteenth rewatch. And in my opinion, you're very observant and intuitive so far 👀! I also really enjoy the conversations between you and Mr. Movieman and hearing your different perspectives and what different things jump out to both of you. <3<3 I especially relate to your pain re: the scene between Louis and his sister. The bit where Louis slumps against his tomb stone, weeping with grief literally destroys me every time I watch it. Also, on a completely different note, Egon Schiele is the correct credit for the painting above Lestat's piano. There's actually a TON of Schiele pieces throughout the Rue Royale townhouse. I posted this in the Movieman chat here on patreon, but i'm just gonna leave this here as well...here's a tumblr blog that has chronicled every single painting and piece of art displayed on the show: https://www.tumblr.com/interviewwiththevampireart/tagged/art%20in%20show The link is for the "art in show" tag, but the blog also has a really cool "art parallels" tag, where they draw comparisons between frames/costume choices etc. and famous paintings and other media references: https://www.tumblr.com/interviewwiththevampireart/tagged/art%20parallel You might want Mr Movieman to go through it for you to avoid some spoilers though. <3

on your solo post-episode remarks: the "night of the two louis" was because louis armstrong was playing in town and lestat wanted louis to come with him to see him. "meaning slowly disintegrates without them" were claudia's words about louis & lestat, louis was just reading them aloud from her diary. and rolin jones being a lestat apologist probably isn't the wrong read, but anne rice 1000% was too, even more so. that's her special little boy.

spoilery for season 2, but a fun fact: on hauntings, both sam reid and delainey hayles mentioned in interviews that the cast and crew believed the warehouse where they built the interior of the theatre des vampires was haunted. it was way out in the prague countryside and apparently a number of them had weird experiences/accidents there.

Both of you: Anne Rice had a lifelong love affair with New Orleans. She lived there for much of her life, knew it intimately, and considered it her true home—even though, toward the end, she had relocated to California, just before Hurricane Katrina struck. This Halloween, the city is celebrating her life, and I’m hoping to make my way there. Her writing profoundly shaped me. For a brief period, she and I were pen pals, exchanging long and thoughtful emails. She gave me invaluable advice about writing, and I’ll always treasure the time she took to correspond with me. Anne Rice was truly one of a kind. MovieMan: I’m excited for you to start Mr. Robot. A few other shows I think you’d really enjoy diving into: Black Sails (arguably the most underrated show ever, with phenomenal dialogue), and The Expanse (an excellent work of science fiction). I’m sure you’ve already seen Game of Thrones, Dexter, and Breaking Bad.. if not, those are essential viewing and some of the greatest shows ever made. And, of course, the original GOAT: The Sopranos. Also.. FUCK BRUCE.

Movieman only (Sorry it's so long): I don't think Daniel is wrong as a journalist to want the unabridged version of Claudia's diaries but as a father he should have known to have better tact in how he handled communicating that to Louis. But he did tell us he's a terrible parent though, so I guess that tracks. When Armand says Daniel is chronocling a suicide he's more referring to the great laws rather than the human reaction to the book. Writing the book is a violation of law three, "No vampire shall commit to writing the history of the vampire". It's the reason why, in Armands words, the other vampires will "scale the sides of this building and paint the walls with his blood". Like father, like daughter I guess. Now 🤣... not to sound like an Armandcel and this is not in his defense but I'm just exploring the things he says in this and other episodes. While I think you're right that the "I care for him more than he cares for himself" line is an indicator of his controlling nature and lines up well with his, "Louis can act out sometimes and I protect him from himself" from S01E07 it's ALSO a nod to a repeated motif of how Armand views love as servitude and worship and often over extends himself and oversteps the other person's boundaries (but those last two are another story). Here are some other examples of the same theme: In S02E04 when Armand gives us his backstory we kind of get where the worship thing comes from. Despite him recognizing his maker's abuse, he did still love him and you can tell by how he fondly recalls "I served him with all my heart, basked in his mercy, his worshipful mercy". In S01E02 ("After the phantoms of your former self"), although the episode title is a Lestat line said to Louis, the episode begins with echoes of Armand's former self. Daniel is looking at a painting on a wall and reads out the painters name which we later find out from S02E04, is Armand's maker. That scene ends with Armand saying "I serve a god, it is my honor to serve". In that moment he speaks about Louis the same way he spoke about Marius in Paris, servitude and worship. I feel I have to clarify before I get jumped that I'm not likening Louis to Marius, only how Armand see's his love for them. On a tangent, even after 500 years, Armand still puts Marius on a pedestal. Daniel says he's never heard of him and Armand's response is that Louis covets the rare and that he's a contemporary of Tintoretto as if they are in the same league beyond existing at the same time. If he was any good, his name would have had some staying power too.

Fuck Bruce, absolutely.

F*ck Bruce!

Hello Darkwave! (Love the ambience btw and your sweet disposition). Coming back to the mommy thing with Lestat, I’d say that based on the book and the series—and even, in some ways, in Cruise’s interpretation—it feels almost like a farce of a character he assumes to adapt to the new situation he finds himself in. It’s more of a mockery or exaggeration of what he thinks a parent would do or say. In my perception, he’s all about hedonistic vices and passions. He attends to Claudia and shows care only as long as it keeps the object of his affection/attention—Louis—satisfied, and when he sees Claudia embrace vampiric existence with as much passion as himself (to a point, of course: it’s all fine as long as she doesn’t question his actions or “status”). So, after that 👆 rant, to summarise: I don’t think Lestat has in him any genuine “parenting” instincts, motherly or fatherly. He’s just too ego- and pleasure-oriented, in my opinion. p.s: it most be Egon Shiele, almost 100% certain of that, at least at first glance. Good eye Darkwaves, I have never paid attention to those details, and they are very interesting! thank you 🙏🏼

MarySoul

I’m on Darkwaves reaction to episode 3 right now. So excited to catch up please keep them coming! I love getting the new reaction and yours with more knowledge and context
