Interview with the Vampire - Ep.2X3 "No Pain" (MovieMan Reaction)

Apologies! The audio mixing is a liiiiittle off in this one, in case you thought my voice is a bit quieter than usual

Man oh man, this show is just somehow getting better and better with each episode. Whether it's shady, third-party organizations tracking supernatural creatures or Armand himself being subjected to a one-on-one interview or even recollections of covens being joined it seems there's no shortage of drama any way you bite into it....

So silly but I also think of how Nicki's wrists would have been shattered by Lestat pulling him from the chains lol

I’d recommend that you use the rewind button when you paused a scene so you dont miss details sometimes

Anaïs

Just like Succession: all these character need THERAPY 😭

MovieMan101 Productions

Same lol as dangerous/crazy as it may be, I feel like working for an organization like that would be incredible and a fascinating experience!

The "awwing" as the coven gave Claudia her babydoll dress was hilarious! Thank goodness for the post credit bhs videos. 😂 These reactions are my absolute favourite. Can't wait for you to get to the incredible second half of this season! 🧛 ✨

Melissa, hey friend, seems we’re both subscribed to all the second wave IWTV reactors. Frank, foxtaco, movieman, bridgeco, Sean Thompson (only one I don’t really care for, am gonna unsubscribe soon)…..any other recommendations that I may have missed? I’m gonna get ThePinkPopcast in a couple weeks when they finish s2.

In the bar scene Lestat is signing a rewritten version of «Come to me» the song he made for Louis but put his lover voice Antoinette on. If you compare the two versions it actually hilarious. There's the mention of a notable character , Nicolas de Lenfant aka « Nicki», Lestat humain lover that he later turn into a vampire ( Lestat and Armand kissing in the theater box while Nicki is playing the violin in the orchestra box looking jealous) is mention in season 1. In episode 6 Lestat and Claudia relationship deteriorate and they keep nipping at each other in a scene where they're playing chess and music is playing in the backgroud. Claudia ask if that the song Lestat wrote for his first love Nicki and says that the song sound better then the one he did for Louis. She smirk and says « does that mean that you love Nicky more than you love Louis»?

On the conversation on evil, I think I largely disagree with Louis. I'm struggling to see evil as a dark abyss where there's no difference between you and the next person as long as you've fallen in already. He said it's not as black and white as Armand was making it so maybe the nuance of what he's trying to say was missing from the scene.

You're spot on about one of the rules of Anne Rice vampires - they can inherit gifts from their maker, or develop them long after they're turned, but they can also gain new abilities by drinking the blood of other vampires. It's not something that a little drink would give them (or even a vamp-on-vamp feeding like we've seen in the show to date, it's a lot more of an intense process than that), but that is absolutely true of Anne Rice vampires.

Calluna Vulgaris

2 I believe.

I just realized that lestat only broke 1 law. I cannot elaborate further at this point but wow.

It seemed obvious to me (and even more on rewatch) that Lestat seduced Armand for vampire training, not for love. At least, that's how Armand views the whole affair. But then, Armand used Lestat as well, to break up the old coven with its outdated, "Through serving Satan, we do God's work," ideology. Armand told us he had never been a leader before he was sent to Paris and after 200+ years, was failing when Lestat was turned. Baby Vamp Lestat was interesting to see. Still bold, still talking his shit, and instead of being frightened into submission by Armand's show of power, he instantly set out to get that ability for himself. Then broke apart and reformed the coven before gifting it back to Armand. Lestat is not a joiner of clubs either, and he's certainly not willing to bow down to anyone other than an audience. Lestat has abandonment issues, meaning he would not completely ghost anyone. He did move on once he had what he wanted from Armand, but he left the coven well-financed, comfortable, and closer together than they had been. It's not like he dragged Armand around and then dumped him alone somewhere. I also suspect Armand edited that part of the story for Daniel (and Louis, and himself?). Louis's Lestat...Louis seems to be torn between saying Lestat used him to stave off the loneliness but also honestly loved him - and definitely stuck around even though he wasn't getting much in return. Louis says Lestat was always for Lestat, but both of them have contradicted that by showing how much care Lestat took in creating spaces for them where they could feel secure and at home. I had to keep reminding myself that Dreamstat is just Louis, well, talking to himself really but in Lestat's voice/persona. This means that when Dreamstat says demeaning or sarcastic remarks about Armand...they are Louis's distrust/uncertainties showing themselves to him and us (Dreamstat waving giant red flags, lol). Dreamstat also implied that Louis never said he loved Lestat and was upset about it. So, is that Louis regretting what he did/could not say at the time? Armand and Louis bonding over Lestat-trauma is so ironic if you think that Lestat would probably say both of *them* failed *him*. And why does Armand keep falling for guys who are disruptive to his coven and reject becoming a full member of it? I do believe the beginning of their love story is very sweet, romantic, and earnest. I don't think those feelings are the same 77 years later in Dubai, and that's what Daniel (and us watchers) is picking up on. Poor Claudia, stuck pretending to be a little girl for at least the next 50 years in that awful dress? The Talamasca is an amazing creation of Anne Rice - tying all her various supernatural universes together and interesting in its own right. I'm dying for the first season of that series to drop.

Armand met Lestat 240 years after he was sent to lead the Paris coven. So 1796 if it was exactly 240 years.

Sam

Same here - just one single flashback from The Vampire Lestat is enough to make it my favourite episode

Three Dalmations

Also I love that you are interested in the idea of Talamasca. to me it was always fascinating part of the books, this secret organization that investigates the paranormal. I wanted to work there lol. AMC is making a spinoff show Talamasca which is in the same Anne Rice's universe, season 1 has already started with shooting and production 2 weeks ago. Can't wait to see how the show turns out and hope you will react to that one too!

Maja Misak

They're gonna make an entire tv show about the Talamasca! Don't know when it's supposed to start airing, but they announced the first actors a few weeks ago

There's a lot of crazy shit that happens in this show and despite it all Louis' brain coming up with his ex husband of sorts singing "he'll never run his fingers through his hair the way I do" and calling him a whore while being on a date with his new beau is what really gets me. I just wanna sit him down at brunch and be like girl, get your shit together!

rese

The thing about the books and Armand... Very astute! But I do really think Armand loves Louis. Yes, he is manipulative but what reason could be more strong for needing to control anything around you than love? Armand has been thought a lot and so it makes sense for him to be always scared to be abandoned or unloved, very much like Lestat. It's just that Lestat is to vain and proud to do the things Armand does 🤣

Victoria

Well Louis is forever in that state in which you break up with your ex and can't stop saying bullshxt about this person to your friends but in truth you know you are just being a drama queen.

Victoria

I'm so happy! In my head this was coming out tomorrow, so this was a much-welcomed surprise. Thank you so much! I'm so (so!) excited for next week

thegirladventurer

**No spoilers, just some notes** 1550~ was when Armand was sent to Paris to lead the clan there, Lestat was turned only in the late 1700s Armand's friend at the bar is french philosopher Jean-Paul Sartre One thing that always gets me is when Louis say Lestat abandons everyone and that this is Lestat, idk but I wouldn't describe him like that, quite the opposite. Lestat is abandonment issues personified lol Great reaction as always!

doodleydoo

One thing I noticed in this episode which I failed to in the others is that Armand keeps the bookshelves (which contain all the books, historical documents, photographs etc) on the ceiling- knowing that Louis can not fly to access them. Perhaps showing a need to control the narrative or conceal parts of it even from Louis. One massive difference between Lestat and Armand is that Armand is so very controlled - every decision he makes, every emotion he shows, the story he tells is decided in advance whereas Lestat is anything but controlled and refuses to be held back by duty or shame. He is unabashedly, authentically himself and he loves deeply! Although I do question the sincerity of his “I love you” to Armand 😬 he does have a way of using seduction to get what he wants…I also noted that at the end of season 1 Lestat said “we are joined by a cord, a cord you cannot see but it is real” and that definitely rings true in this episode!!??

Caitlin 🥀

Hmm, well unfortunately I cannot even hear you at all

Martin Gage

Just made myself cosy and comfortable and this drops. Thank you movieman gods! I love this episode.
