Monetization Update
Added 2025-07-13 17:21:17 +0000 UTCAs I mentioned earlier this week in the economic update, I've been thinking of changing the payments in-game to be in Euros instead of US Dollars. Wanted to give you all an update on what I've found out and the changes I'll most likely roll out in the coming week.
So after running the numbers and checking different options, I've found two changes to the in-game payments I'll most likely roll out in the next week: Charging in EUR (while displaying still displaying the estimated converted price in USD) and switching payments to Stripe from PayPal.
First of the reason to switch to EUR is to solve a challenge that game has always, the game have gotten USD in, but the biggest of the bills are in DKK (the Danish currency). This has caused the exchange rate of USD to DKK to have an impact on the final earnings, which is great when USD have a high value, but causes issues when it's low. As an example, I'm earning roughly 10% less per Dollar earned today compared to at the start of the year, simply due to the drop in the USD value.
In comparison, EUR always have a fixed exchange rate to DKK, so by switching to EUR I'll eliminate the exchange uncertainty, with I strongly prefer.
Combined to the change to Stripe, I'll also get reduced fee for sales in EUR from the EU, with no equal reductions for USD (on either payment platforms).
As for Stripe, for those that don't know it, it's another large online payment provider, but compared to PayPal you don't need to create an account, and can pay with card and digital wallets (Apple Pay, Google Pay etc.).
But from the economic side of things, Stripe has lower fees, especially for EU transactions and when withdrawing the money. So after running the numbers, it's a no-brainer to switch to Stripe, and actually something I've been considering for some time.
The change to EUR will mean that the prices in-game will be adjusted. I probably won't use the current USD to EUR exchange rate for this, as the USD value is rather low right now, and I want to get the effective prices in DKK closer to what they were at the start of the year. So I'll be using an older exchange rate of 1 USD = 0.94 EUR, and then adjust the prices to be a clean number. So this will result in a slight price increase but this has probably been needed for some time, as I haven't updated the prices since they were introduced 5 years ago.
I'll list the new planned prices for ticket packs below, as for the Avatar Drive I'll probably just change it to 600 EUR.
1 Ticket: 1 EUR
12 Pack: 9.99 EUR
26 Pack: 18.99 EUR
70 Pack: 46.99 EUR
150 Pack: 93.99 EUR
42 Pack (Sale): 18.99 EUR
110 Pack (Getting Started): 46.99 EUR
That's it for these planned changes, I do hope to be able to roll them out with the next patch this week.
If you have any input, suggestions or feedback on these changes I would love to hear them, the changes aren't completely set in stone yet, and I'm always open to suggestions =)
