Number 1: Grumble (and Lore)
Added 2022-04-27 06:52:38 +0000 UTCBorn out in the wilds of the eastern savanna, the ancestors of the modern Grumbles lived in nomadic societies for hundreds of years. They mainly dig their burrows close by rivers, which were farmed for fish. The Grumbles had a head of spines, and they contort their bodies into balls to spin lightning-fast before launching at trees to knock down fruit.
Some two-hundred years ago, a powerful warlord began diverting rivers toward his domain, manipulating Grumbles into an accidental pilgrimage to his fortress. Those Grumbles were forced to become his slaves. The slaves’ offspring were put through conditioned education, so that they developed loyalty for the warlord. This continued on from generation to generation, and in that time they were conditioned into intensive combat training, so that their natural defenses were honed into offensive capabilities. They were also given gauntlets and boots, so that their spinning can now lead into brutal punches and kicks
The warlord ordered his minions to travel from village to village to conquer lands for their master. They did battle with wandering heroes many times. Eventually some heroes invaded the warlord’s domain and slew him, setting all future Grumbles free from his control. However, years of conditioning had led the Grumbles with violent, hot-headed, and bitter demeanors. And with their master gone, the Grumbles had nothing to control their short-tempers. Thus, the Grumbles roamed madly about the lands, retaining their old nomadic life while also picking fights among themselves, and anyone who dared get in their way.
