Peek: Berdol's Notes on Violet
Added 2023-10-30 02:51:14 +0000 UTCInspection notes by junior inspector Berdol, overseen by both Inspector Tarl and Voice Teemo, of Thedeim.
The most direct route to Violet is via a short delve into Thedeim, Violet's mentor. By entering into the tunnels section of Thedeim, delvers can exit into unclaimed tunnels and eventually find Violet's caverns. If you hit the aquifer lakes, you've gone too far.
Violet's initial room is a large cavern with many gem nodes sprinkled around, tended by gremlins. While the gremlins are not specialized at the time of this inspection, it seems highly likely they will eventually be specialized towards resources, possibly allowing for cut gems to be found, mined, or earned.
The gremlin scion is Onyx, and she is eager to test herself against delvers. If one is not inclined to fight, a polite refusal should be all that's required to remain unmolested. Onyx should be a moderate challenge for low-level groups, or a moderate-level individual. Be aware of the metallic claws she wields, which also imply the existence of a metalworks and possibly a forge and smith, though the dungeon may be getting the metal from her mentor.
Moles are also occasionally to be spotted in the main cavern. As of yet, they don't appear to have a specialization, though they may be being utilized in the construction of secret rooms. They may also be dealing with invaders, but that seems to be more the job of the centipedes. There are reports of a mole scion, but no inspectors have encountered it as of yet. Should it be encountered, the mole scion should be left to its own devices.
Centipedes abound, but are more concerned with invaders than delvers. A few encounters is fine, but Violet is exhibiting all the signs of being a toybox, and as such, combat encounters with denizens should be kept to a minimum. Violet has a centipede scion named Legs, but there is still no official confirmation. Should Legs be encountered, it should be treated as the mole scion and left to its devices as well.
Lastly, there are many patches of mushrooms, but these are denizens, rather than nodes. I don't have much experience with mushrooms, but the current ones are harmless enough to pick as needed. Be aware that more advanced mushroom denizens can be very dangerous to even get near, so if you aren't positive you know what kind of mushrooms are there, leave them alone.
While that covers the denizens in the main cavern, there are two other features of interest. The first are the patches of disturbed earth littered around the cavern. They are the nests of tunnel horrors, and should be avoided if at all possible. Violet's mentor has been careful to not disturb the nests, and it's very likely Violet will also be interested in keeping their integrity. Experienced taming classes may be interested, but as of the time of inspection, nothing has yet hatched to be tamed.
The other feature is tangentially related: the door to the inner cavern. It is the first and so far only trap Violet possesses, and even that is a technicality. It was installed by her mentor as a way to keep the tunnel horrors from accessing her territory. The bypass for the trap is simple: pull the doors open, instead of pushing. By all accounts, it was effective to keep the horrors at bay.
Past the door is the inner cavern, where the primary attraction is the cave bunny nodes. Hunters, trappers, tanners, and leatherworkers will find the rabbits a great source of materials. Centipedes and mushrooms also abound, but should be mostly left alone. The mushrooms are specialized to synergize with the rabbits, encouraging their growth.
All in all, it is this junior inspector's opinion that violet qualifies in all regards as a toybox, and as she is also a deep dungeon, it would be in the guild's best interest to ensure her safety and to cooperate with both her and her mentor.

2023-10-30 11:55:49 +0000 UTCTrap? He asked if the door counted as a puzzle, not a trap. I dunno if it matters, but I would define a trap as a thing where something happens when you fail. A puzzle would be where something happens when you succeed. An object can, but not always, be both.
