Peek: A Day in the Life of Poe
Added 2023-03-05 23:45:10 +0000 UTCSunrise brings the reports from the bat expeditions, both under and above ground. Lord Thedeim wishes information on not just the terrain, but on what occupies the terrain. While Leo's wolves bring back larger samples, Poe's own forces bring back their own small offerings to the insatiable appetite of the Librarian bee. Much of what the bats bring back actually get planted in the belfry garden, where Coda pays them just enough mind to not wither.
Ordinarily, Poe would bristle as such deriliction, but Coda is still somewhat new to having a true purpose. The raven scion did feel a little bad for taking over the bat expeditions, but it was clearly never something the bat scion enjoyed. His new purpose becomes him, and Poe will not attempt to overstep his own authority and force his fellow scion to tend the garden.
Besides, the fruitbats seem to be doing a fine job on their own, so perhaps more structure to their duties would be a hinderance, rather than a help.
As the delvers start to do their delving, Poe is happy to watch them, between dealing with his own crow expeditions. He's even seen what his Lord likes to call the Terrible Trio, or even sometimes The-Once-Terrible-But-Now-Pretty-Alright Trio, which Voice Teemo says fills Lord Thedeim with mirth.
Poe fears the joke eludes him.
As the day progresses, he often gets to watch some of the other scions go about their duties on the grounds: Tiny tends his maze and engages the delvers there, Jello will hunt moles, Teemo can be seen popping up all over the place, offering advice or jokes, or any other number of things.
He even can watch Conduit Fluffles high in the sky, practicing with his new affinities. He's also not the only one. Since the victory over Hullbreak, Fluffles has had delvers watching him from the rooftop, and Poe sometimes captures their attention, too.
That shaman is always polite and quiet, which Poe appreciates. He meditates as he watches, and seems to be slowly carving a small piece of wood as he watches the Conduit. Poe won't pretend to understand how his magic works, but he can tell he is working it as he sits on the roof, watching.
On the opposite end of Fluffles' observers is an elven sailor. He will often bring a bottle of some variety of alcohol, and seems to evenly split his time between nursing the bottle, watching Fluffles, and chatting at Poe. At first, he found him to be far too loud, and considered sending him tumbling off the rooftop, but he refrained.
A feeling from his Lord when the old ratkin came and plucked a few feathers from his nest made his stay his wing. He had no idea how to handle the situation, and his Lord seemed to tell him to be more like Jello. But he's not as soft and easy-going as she is. Still... his Lord's odd suggestions have shown their wisdom time and again.
So he has been listening to the babblings of the elf. At first, he could hardly bring himself to pay attention to the obvious bragging and embellishments, but over time, he started to appreciate the tales of how much different life is on a boat, life at sea. There's an odd irony that water is a vital thing to have, considering it's all around a boat. But of course, salt water is not something to drink. He's uncertain if he believes tales woven about sailors drinking it anyway when desperate, and going mad from it, but it still shows the dangers of trying to slake one's thirst in the ocean.
Eventually, the sun sets, and the delvers return to their homes. His crows and ravens return and roost, and he sends out the bats on their own expeditions. He likes to stretch his wings in the waning light, and will often go visit Grim in the graveyard.
Voice Teemo says him, perched upon Grim's scythe in the fading light is an imposing sight, though neither he nor Grim intend it to be so. Grim is oddly comforting company, and surprisingly good at helping Poe preen. He is also interested in the activities of the delvers, so Poe will often spend much of the night simply chatting with the quiet skeleton, raven and reaper simply talking about life as they watch over the dead.

Nice, I can't help thinking how intimidating that sight would be for a visitor, just to find out they are actually talking about flowers or trying out fishing to see what it is all about. :)

2023-03-24 07:42:39 +0000 UTCIs that carving that the Shaman is making going to let him summon an aspect of Fluffles? Or something along those lines?
