Peek: A Day in the Life of Jello
Added 2023-02-19 23:44:27 +0000 UTCJello likes to think of her days starting with dawn, even though she doesn't have any sleep to awaken from. The delvers seem to show up with the rising sun, and even the Voice seems to keep track of time starting with the sun showing itself.
She likes to start her days in the crypt complex, watching the Crystal Shield people start their training and practicing. The more experienced ones will usually nod or even give her a salute by raising their shields. She likes them, they like to fight the undead. The Voice's undead are nice, but she can remember how mean the undead of the other dungeon were.
She mostly just watches them as they go about their business, occasionally managing to nab an invader. She still hasn't felt one that seems right for the Voice, but she keeps trying.
She also keeps trying to get the Crystal Shield people to make friends with Grim. She likes to head up to the cemetery a few hours after dawn, and try to help him with his gardening, or to just hang out and chat. He's pretty quiet, but that just gives her more time to think about things. Grim does a lot of thinking, enough that Jello wonders if he thinks even more than Honey does! She likes to try to imagine what he's thinking about as he tends the garden, and as he scythes the flowers he'll spend the middle of the day placing on the graves.
She likes to check on Thing and Honey while he does that. The quiet of the graveyard is nice, but she feels awkward trying to stay on the paths between the rows. Thing is always working on something, but also always takes the time to wave to her. She's still working on properly waving back, but Thing doesn't seem to mind. He'll try to explain what he's working on, but she doesn't usually stay very long. Not that he's poor company, she's just worried about breaking something delicate. Or absorbing something on accident that she shouldn't. That day of hiccups was... not the worst, but not something she wants to repeat.
Visiting Honey always feels like she's playing a prank on the Librarian. The bees really like her, so she'll envelop the ones that land on her, and they give their buzzing giggles, at least until Honey notices and scolds them to get back to work. One time, Honey was so absorbed in her research that Jello managed to get all of the bees in the library! She's pretty sure the volume of the muffled buzzing finally got her attention. She had hoped Honey would join in, and she looked pretty tempted, but she said they have work to do, so Jello released the bees.
After playing in the library, it's usually afternoon, and Jello likes to patrol the tunnels until sunset. Afternoon and evening seem to be the best time for delvers to delve, and she likes to try to sneak up on them while on the lookout for gremlins. She burbles with glee whenever she catches one, and likes to pretend she's Tiny as she takes one of their items before spitting them back out. They usually leave after that, since she doesn't leave them as clean as the does the bees. Some part of her says she should eat them instead, like the undead and some of the invaders, but that'd be mean. Besides, it's funny to watch them waddle away covered in slime, as if walking like that will somehow make them less drenched.
As sunset nears, she likes to go to the surface to watch it, and to catch a few moles to go with the gremlins she's gathered, so she can spend the night trying to sing to them about how they should join the Voice. Sometimes, the Voice's Voice will come and visit, and she and the rat will chat and try to coordinate their fates to help capture a suitable invader. By the time the morning comes, the invaders are pacified and released, and she can go visit the Crystal Shield folks again.
Partially inspired by x4x0000, who wanted to see Jello helping the Crystal Shield Paladins. It got me thinking of what her normal day might be.
