(Full Reaction) Apollo 13

This was emotional, intense, and beautifully told. The strong performances from all of these wonderful actors makes this feel more like a documentary gone wrong than a movie. They really captured this true story so well.

Watched on: Starz on Amazon Prime / Runtime: 2:19:51

Hope you enjoy! ❤️

Jim Lovell only just died this past year. So, he had a good long life. Marylin pre-deceased him in 2023. Fred Haise is still around, though.

Ditto on the FROM THE EARTH TO THE MOON series by HBO. 10 extremely well-done episodes.

Apologies for such a long comment… My favorite trivia about Apollo: when it lifted off the pad the Saturn V booster was burning (and the fuel pumps were pumping) 15 tons of fuel EVERY SECOND. I’m including a link to a video that details the first 30 seconds of flight. https://youtu.be/FircvSand7A Here is another fun video that visualizes it in terms of elephants. https://youtu.be/X4iMeKif488 There was also a lot of excitement on Apollo 12 when it was hit by lightning during launch. The HBO series FROM THE EARTH TO THE MOON recreates it. There are 12 episodes and I would LOVE to see you react to them. The series was produced by Ton Hanks and almost every episode was really good. https://youtu.be/SSN4MIsP_90 There is also a documentary about Apollo called FOR ALL MANKIND (1989) that I love. It includes an amazing soundtrack by Brian Eno. The only voices you will hear are astronauts talking about their experience. I’ll link to the video on YouTube that’s starts at what I think is the most powerfully part when an astronaut mentions that part of their training includes what to do if the two astronauts landing on the moon are killed in a crash. https://youtu.be/JD2W4CZbH9U?t=40m16s And finally Apollo 13 mission report is several hundred pages with almost every detail of the mission including exactly how the defect with the oxygen tank occurred. https://www.nasa.gov/wp-content/uploads/static/history/alsj/a13/A13_MissionReport.pdf When Jim Lovels mother says “if they could get a washing machine to fly….” She is talking about the cylindrical service module’s resemblance to early washing machines. https://rarehistoricalphotos.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/washing-machines-vintage-photos-14.webp
