Added 2025-08-22 23:25:51 +0000 UTCThis felt far less like a movie and far more like being dropped into a real life takeover. The acting was incredible. It was an intense movie and deeply emotional. The whole cast was incredible but I think Tom Hanks and Barkhad Abdi were the real shining stars.
Turns out, Barkhad has had many more acting roles since Captain Phillips. I had read that he hadn't continued acting but I'm so happy has because this was such an incredible performance.

2025-08-23 17:04:05 +0000 UTCBarkhad Abdi (Muse) had never acted before. He just showed up for an open casting call and got the gig. The "I'm the captain now" line was improvised. The Navy corpsman at the end of the movie wasn't an actor but an actual US Navy Corpsman. She was told to just do what she would normally do and that Tom Hanks would just act around what she said and did - the whole scene was nearly entirely made up on the spot. If you want more films directed by Paul Greengrass then definitely check out the Jason Bourne franchise. United 93 (about the 9/11 hijackings) is also really good but, definitely tough to watch.
