(Full Reaction) Pulp Fiction

This was one of the strangest and most entertaining films I've seen. I haven't been able to stop thinking about it! The characters were quirky but so likable and the non-linear story structure felt very fitting. This was a really fun and wild ride through the seedy underworld of LA. I'd love to see more of Tarantino's work!

Watched on: Amazon Prime's Paramount / 2:34:28

Hope you enjoy!

(not so)Quick FYIs: 1. You noticed the quick Steve Buscemi cameo. Tarantino originally wanted Buscemi to play Jimmy, but Buscemi had scheduling conflicts, so Tarantino ended up playing Jimmy. Buscemi ended up being free for the one shooting day needed for the Jackrabbit Slim's scene. If you listen to Jimmy's dialog, you can hear it was meant for Buscemi. 2. The Band-Aid on Marcellus's neck: Sorry to rip away the Hollywood magic, but the reason is just that Ving Rhames nicked himself shaving his head the morning of the shoot. He figured that makeup would deal with it when he got to set, but Tarantino thought the Band-Aid looked interesting for the shot and had makeup redo it with a fresh one and make sure it was centered. 3. The briefcase: Another not-so-interesting case. It's just a classic McGuffin. The answer Tarantino gives is that it was a light bulb, a power source, and a shiny gold sheet to reflect the light. I like the theories out there(esp. the soul theory), but I think Tarantino really never went beyond just needing a cool-looking McGuffin. 4. It's nearly impossible to hear, but there's a news report playing while Butch is sneaking back to his apt. The report states that there was a robbery at Jackrabbit Slim's the night before. The implication is that Vincent and Mia didn't actually win the twist competition, but Vincent stole the trophy because that's what Mia demanded. 5. Because you reacted to Game Night just before Pulp Fiction, did you notice that Rachel McAdam's character quoted Yolanda/Honey Bunny's line when she was in the bar swinging the gun around? ("Any of you f-ing pricks move...")

Glad you enjoyed it.

This movie just felt like one long, interesting conversation. I mean, events happened, but it felt like there was no plot. There wasn't any protagonist or antagonist, just characters...doing....things. Maybe it was the jagged timeline that made it feel that way, but so much randomness happened, it made sense why Jax couldn't predict anything throughout the film. I'm not criticizing it. It's just an observation of a very unique film. I went in pretty blind myself and only knew one thing about it, that in the dance contest scene, Uma and John weren't given any choreography to follow. Quinton just told them to do what they thought was natural. If i had to pick a favorite QT film, i'd say the Kill Bill 1 and 2. it's a lot of fun, uniquely shot, and probably the only notable role i know Uma Thurman to play in other than this film.
