(Full Reaction) Tombstone (1993)

Hey everyone! Here is my full reaction to Tombstone. This movie won the Western movie poll and I was so excited to see it. I've only ever seen one western before and it's a genre I'd love to continue to explore.

All I can say about this movie is that it blew me away. Val Kilmer delivered the performance of a lifetime. The entire cast was phenomenal, but there's something about Doc Holliday that was mesmerizing.

My favorite line of the movie: "I don't."

I have so many favorite lines though because the script was AWESOME. I also like, "I have two guns, one for each of you." What was you favorite line of the film?

Watched on: Amazon / Runtime: 2:10:24

Hope you enjoy!

no John Wayne movies? well you should check out True Grit (1969) that's the only John Wayne movie I know, my dad used to watch it all the time. along with this and Unforgiven and a few more I can't think of rn. R.I.P. Val Kilmer

Mister Lou

So many actors in this one. The one you recognized I think of as being in the TV show Wings... and then he was in Ned & Stacey (lol late 90s) And yeah, he was The Sandman. Thomas Haden Church. And yep, Bill Paxton who you might remember in such movies as... Twister, Aliens, Edge of Tomorrow, The Terminator and Weird Science... wow what a list! And don't forget Michael Biehn who was in The Terminator and The Abyss... oh and Aliens too.

For another western I often say Silverado (1985) There are old westerns like High Noon (1952) and Shane (1953) Then there are less-old old movies like The Wild Bunch (1969) and Hombre (1967) Then there are the Clint Eastwood movies, the earlier ones then The Good, The Bad and The Ugly (1966) And there was a time when hardly any westerns were being made anymore. Then Silverado was a kind of revival. Later there was Dances With Wolves (1990)... and even later Open Range (2003) And then there are the fun westerns, I like The Quick and The Dead (1995) with Gene Hackman and a few other recognizable actors. I think you enjoy recognizing actors and so I left out the names 😊

I just finished watching 🙂 Actually one of the best lines that I like is when Doc says... "That's a hell of a thing for you to say to me...!" That always surprises me. And of course such lines as... "Go ahead and skin that smoke wagon, see what happens. Go ahead, throw down!" It goes on... 🙃 He had so many variations... "Go ahead and skin it and get to work!" "Are you gonna do something about it or are you just gonna bleed?" "What're you lookin' at?" "Just wanted to let you know you're sittin' on my seat." "Oh is that right?"... I can never get the "heeled" line... "No need to get (???) heeled over a tub like you." Then he starts slappin' him 😆 "Out you go youngster and don't you never come back. Ever!"

Watching your outro, there's a difference between cowboys(the occupation) and The Cowboys(the historical gang in the movie). The term cowboy(and vaquero) is just the word for a person that herds or works with cattle. The term has been in use from the 1700s all the way to the present day. Another common term was cowherd(just like shepherd is a contraction of sheep herd ;) ). The Cowboys(specifically the Cochise County Cowboys) was the name of a loosely organized group of outlaws in Arizona in the late 1800s. Because of the actions of the gang and others like them, the term cowboy became an insult in that specific area. Because of that, a person who worked with cattle there was referred to as a cowhand, range hand, ranch hand, trail hand, etc. Those terms were also used in other parts of the Old West, but the term cowboy generally wasn't an insult and it was used alongside the others. lol

The best line from you was, "there's no yelp". 😆😆😆😆

I’ll second Hell or High Water. The 2007 version of 3:10 to Yuma with Russell Crowe and Christian Bale is great too. And if you want to venture into Tarantino, The Hateful Eight is a lot of fun (not for the faint of heart though).

Mike Smith

I was wondering if you would recognize Yondu. :) Your next western should be either Quigley or Silverado.

Chester Beals

I second Quigley!

It was fun seeing Sam Elliott again. Thanks for the movie suggestion. I'll make sure to add it to the movie list!

Jacqueline

That was my first thought as well!

Jay Robert

No, but I just looked up his character. He was great in this!

Jacqueline

That's such a great line!!! I'll out that film on the list ❤️

Jacqueline

Thanks for the recommendation!!

Jacqueline

That was such a great line. Their relationship was lovely!

Jacqueline

Great reaction Jax. I can't wait for you to react to "U forgiven."

Vidal (BillyG!) Gomez jr

wow that was lovely of you to watch this... "I dunno why you do this Doc, everyone's got a lotta friends..." Doc: "Well I don't." I re-wrote that but... what Doc was saying is that Wyatt is a good friend... and that Doc is very loyal... through thick and thin. We saw this toward the end when he had to tell Wyatt to get outta there... to leave him... and to go live his life. Gets me choked up.

Hi Miss Jax, about to watch this reaction seeing as how you say you'd like to explore more of the genre there are too many great ones to list so I'm going to recommend one I haven't heard many people mention over the years that happens to be one of my favorites. Quigley Down Under. Apparently it has average/meh reviews, but I love that movie.

Derder

"You called down the thunder, well now you got it!" Gives me chills every time!! A great movie that is a western in spirit is Hell Or High Water with Chris Pine and Jeff Bridges. It's set in modern day, but the western influence is huge and it is just a fantastic movie!

Ed Scoglio

Did you catch Charleton Heston in this?

Jay Robert

Love that one of your favorite lines is “I don’t.” It’s an all-timer for me. Such great writing and such a great character.

Oliver Higgs

Yes! I'd love to see that!

Jacqueline

Sam Elliott (Virgil Earp) also played the Narrator in The Big Lebowski. His mustache is grayer in that one. The movie Sunset, with Bruce Willis and James Garner, tells a story about Wyatt Earp's days in Hollywood, as an advisor to the early silent westerns. You may be interested in it, it's worth a watch. For a more light-hearted western, Support Your Local Sherriff, also starring James Garner, may be a good react, and is available on Prime.

Horace Cocroft

Great Movie, Rest in Peace Val "I'll be your Huckleberry"

Joseph E. Jackson

Oh, can’t wait. “Let’s have a spelling contest!”

TheEbonyElephant

A classic. Hopefully you can get around to watching Unforgiven at some point.

Alex Gorell

Been waiting for this one ❤️
