Fun fact: Robert Kirkman, the creator of Invincible, also wrote Marvel Zombies (2005–2006), and is the creator of The Walking Dead, which both the comic and TV series featured plenty of characters reading Invincible comics. Both Invincible and The Walking Dead are published by Image Comics, which was founded back in 1992 by seven creators who’d had enough of the big two (Marvel and DC). That crew included Todd McFarlane, Rob Liefeld, Jim Lee, Erik Larsen, Marc Silvestri, Whilce Portacio, and Jim Valentino. They all left to start something new where creators could actually own their work. Rob Liefeld co-created Deadpool during his run on The New Mutants. Todd McFarlane helped bring Venom to life during his time on The Amazing Spider-Man. Jim Lee made his name on X-Men, and his iconic art style helped shape X-Men: The Animated Series and even X-Men '97. He’s also responsible for the best-selling single issue of all time, X-Men #1 (1990). And as of 2023, Jim Lee is now the President, Publisher, and Chief Creative Officer of DC Comics. An incredible jump from Marvel legend to running the competition at DC. So you'll definitely see alot of Marvel and DC DNA in Invincible. Like Everett mentioned, the Guardians of the Globe are a parody of DC's Justice League, Omni-Man is your Superman stand-in, and Invincible himself feels kind of like a Superboy-type. His last name, Grayson, might even be a wink at Dick Grayson (aka Robin/Nightwing). And speaking of Nightwing, that’s exactly where the name Darkwing comes from. Kirkman is also a massive Spider-Man fan, just like Spider-Man, Invincible juggles superhero duties with everyday life, school, relationships, family drama. That “teen hero with real-world problems” is pulled directly out of Peter Parker’s playbook, heavily inspiring Mark Grayson. And they even had a Invincible/Spider-Man crossover as well, which was amazing and canonical.

I wish you would have seen dc stuff cause this is very much like the justice league. But definitely some marvel homages.

What a wild start, huh? :-) it starts off so peaceful and so wholesome, and quickly descends into chaos by the end! I’m glad you’re on this journey! I’m very much looking forward to watching it all with you. It’s like I told you on Discord, this has some of the most well written character arcs ever… and it is just a phenomenally told story. Buckle up! Hang on! As the song once said: “You ain’t seen nothing yet!”

This is more parodies of DC and Marvel. The Guardians of the Globe is the Justice League (Omni-Man is Superman, War Woman is Wonder Woman, Aquarus is Aquaman, Darkwing is Batman, Red Rush is The Flash, Martian Man is Plastic Man & Martian Manhunter, etc;), Invincible is Superboy, Debbie is Lois Lane, Immortal is Vandal Savage, Atom Eve is Green Lantern & Starfire, Rex Splode is Gambit, Dupli-Kate is Triplicate Girl, Monster Girl is The Hulk, Cecil is the “Mr. Big” archetype (a character, specifically an authority figure working with superheroes, who’s shady & manipulative). They’re all parodies

Alvin Everett

I think it’s quite fitting that J.K. Simmons is the voice of Omni-Man since he happens to look like J. Jonah Jameson on steroids. Now THAT is a menace.
