I had to leave for a while due to money issues, so I must have been gone when this was posted. Love this movie, and the reaction didn't disappoint. Herc is so sweet. I adore his character in this. Also, Hades is such a great villain here. My favorite line from him: Whoa, is my hair out? LOL And forgive me if I mentioned this before, but after seeing your reaction to this and hearing you talk about how much you love stories about belonging, I've got a couple of recommendations for you. -Tarzan -The Wild Robot Disney's version of Tarzan doesn't have any musical numbers in the traditional sense, where the characters sing to the audience, but it does have a great soundtrack, and the animation is gorgeous, along with a story I think you'll love. The Wild Robot, a much newer movie that's from Dreamworks, doesn't have any singing, but the score is great, the animation is absolutely stunning, and the voice acting is wonderful. I recommend these two because both stories center around a lot of themes that are similar to this movie, including finding your place and acceptance. Both acceptance of the self, and gaining the acceptance and respect of others.

Hercules! Hercules! Hercules! (From The Nutty Professor)

You would love The O.C. Peter Gallagher (Peter from While You Were Sleeping) plays one of the all time best TV dads. I would definitely be down for a rewatch.

Mike Smith

One of my favorite Disney movies. Tarzan, Hercules, lilo and stitch, emperors new groove just has me in stitches 😆

Armando Castillo

I loved that show haha. And any time I see a 3 headed dog, I just call it Fluffy!

Ed Scoglio

I haven't seen either of them! I'll add them to the movie list.

I never watched The OC. I forgot about that show, but it was huge at the time! That's a great fun fact about Phil's line!

Jacqueline

Michael Bolton's version is so beautiful!!

Jacqueline

1. Cerberus is the 3 headed dog of hades 2. Athena is the goddess of wisdom with the owl 3. James woods voiced hades and such an iconic voice he was 4. Sometimes you have to let your kids just figure things out if zeus told him it'd be forced and probs wouldn't of counted towards being a true hero. (grey area)

I loved seeing how much you enjoyed this Jax. You mentioned how you liked the song "Go The Distance", did you ever hear the version sung by Michael Bolton? If not, you should really give it a listen. I'm sure you'd enjoy this.

You were right! The voice of Hercules was Tate Donovan, who was Joshua on Friends, but to me, he will always be Jimmy Cooper on The OC! Also a really fun little detail, when Phil says "2 words, I am retired", when that is translated to Greek, it actually really is just 2 words! I also just noticed this detail during this watch, during Meg's song, when you see the Muses as the singing busts, they are arranged the same way as the singing busts in the Haunted Mansion ride.

Incredible. Love this movie. I watched this a lot as a kid. Meg was my first cartoon love 😂

Nice reaction, Jax! I’ve watched most early animated Disney stuff, but never wanted to see this one. Better than I expected. Have you seen/reacted to The Prince of Egypt or The Little Shop of Horrors?

"He'd make a very handsome throw rug." - Zazu about Scar in the Lion King. Turns out Zazu was right.

You were on the right track thinking Percy Jackson at the beginning since Hercules was an original demigod;) Of course Disney had to dodge the old half god, half human child of a philandering Zeus thing! Also Hercules is the Roman version of the Greek Heracles - to stay in Percy Jackson's pantheon.

Robert Inman

I saw this movie in theaters. I have always loved this movie. Interesting factoid is that Meg is related to Oedipus, they are cousins, featured in the Oedipus Rex which is the play she and Hercules go and see. They took a lot of liberties with the original Greek myth. In the original myth, Hera is Hercules’ step mother and hates him with a burning passion. Hera goes out of way to make Hercules’ life a living hell. Hercules is the son of Zeus and a mortal woman. Phil’s two word are actually two words in Greek.
