Avatar: The Last Airbender S3 E16 (Full Reaction)

Hey everyone! This is the last Avatar Friday we're every going to have. I don't want this show to end. It's such a comfort show and I've loved spending time with all these characters!

The season finale is a long one! So get your flying animal companion, grab a cup of tea, and get ready for one doozy of an episode.

Sozin's Comet: Team Avatar must finally take on the Fire Nation in an epic battle. Zuko and Katara take on Azula, Toph and Sokka go after the air ships, while Aang finally faces off against the Fire Lord. Luckily, they have more friends that help them face off against the Fire Nation. It all comes down to this!

I am in complete awe of how the season finale ended. Not only do I feel so happy for all of these characters, but it's clear the creators had a true vision from season 1 and they were able to see it through.

What did you think about this season finale?!

Watched on: Netflix / Runtime: 1:32:36

I can certaintly recommend ted lasso as a show between this and korra, its very uplifting and fun but also suprisingly deep. Even tho I wouldnt mind if u just jump right into Korra while your memory of this show is still fresh. :D

One of the greates shows of all time, as you said many times, even tho its made as a kids show, it doesnt fail to be great for all ages, .and also a great reaction! I can only recommend Korra, it manages to keep the wonder of this universe alive while also being unique from this show, it did stuggle a bit because of production issues, but its still great and especially the final two seasons of the show dont have to hide from this show!(Not to say the first two arent good, the last two are just better). About the live action, I couldnt even finish it, the cgi is great but they did dishonor the original quite a bit, and well to be honest from the episodes I have seen( I think I stopped at 4 or 5) , some of the main cast just arent that good at bringing the characters across.

samuel Jakob

I'm so glad you enjoyed this!! I've heard Korra is a bit different, but still worth the watch. I'm grateful for the warning because it's hard not to expect more of ATLA. I'll be putting up a TV show suggestions post really soon!

Jacqueline

Oh and as a sidenote Jax- Sokka's Swordmaster- in case you were wondering, is voiced by Robert Patrick-- you know him as the unstoppable T1000 Liquid Terminator from T2!

Kay Douglas

AAAAAHHHH I LOVED this journey from start to finish with you. <3 I'm so glad you gave Avatar a chance. I was super hoping you would love it, and here we are! I LOVE so much about the finale to this series. Iroh and Zuko's reunion. (I cry EVERY time!!!) Ty Lee and Mai getting their ending. Azula (My heart breaks for my poor damaged baby) being bested. Aang and the gang and the best outcomes ever. Whenever you get to it, I'm here for you and your Legend of Korra journey too! <3 ((and all the rest in-between!)) See you soon!

Kay Douglas

A poll will be coming up soon!

Jacqueline

I'd love to watch The Legend of Korra! I'm so glad you enjoyed the reaction!

Jacqueline

Haha! I've heard the movie is very interesting. I'm looking forward to Korra!

Jacqueline

That's so cool! I'd love to see a show catching up with them in their 20s. They seemed so grown up here but it would be nice to actually see them as young adults.

Jacqueline

Great reaction as always. It's fun for me to rewatch things I love like this and the MCU and experience it anew through you. I enjoy Korra almost as much as ATLA. It's a very different show: ATLA is about a bunch of pubescent kids saving the world, and Korra is about, well, a bunch of late teens saving the world in other ways. I think you'd really enjoy Korra, Jax. She's the avatar directly after Aang. It's absolutely a sequel in every sense, and you learn a lot about what became of every character you love. Like, a LOT. More than you might expect. That alone is gratifying enough for me to recommend it, but the story and themes are, for me, excellent. Again, it's different content with a different point of view but it's also more of the same if that makes sense.

watching your mom reaction is the same feeling that we have watching you react to it. its fun seeing them experience all the twist and turns plus now you start to pick up on small details that foreshadow the plot. I personally liked the live action so it would be fun to see you react to it.

JAX you are now an ATLA fan, and the Fandom is deep. Like the Marvel one, it has sides. You are going to get a bunch of Yays and Nays for Korra and/or NETFLIX's live action Avatar. Heck you may even get a Yay for the 2010- dear god in heaven😨- live action movie. But you are lucky to have the world wide opinion of previous fans, and don't have to go in blind to what you were hoping to be the best movie ever. Just know that you have the support of The Polls and the Power to choose on your own. Have fun😃 {but seriously don't watch the 2010 one, it's too painful}

Still crazy how they were like 16 when they changed the world

Good to know the show is a bit different. Haha, I've heard the original film does not live up to the show but it could be fun to see it.

Jacqueline

It really is such a great story! I'd love to see Legends of Korra!

Now, I have so much trivia/thoughts I want to offload about these final eps lol: I love that you pick out the specific messages all the past Avatars were actually telling Aang. We're suppose to be led to think they're all encouraging him to kill the Fire Lord, but they don't really. In the end, Aang follows all their advice, but his way: Be decisive, bring justice, actively influence the world, and be ready to sacrifice his own spiritual wellbeing. He choses to energy-bend Ozai, risking the corruption of his own spirit, choosing how to end the war by bringing true justice, and his decisiveness not to end it by killing is precisely what makes his own spirit unbendable. The scene where Zuko reunites with Iroh is one of the best I think, and it's made even more emotional if you think what happened to Zuko the last time he knelt before a father-figure and begged for forgiveness... I love Zuko's 'Fatherlord' slip up lol, underrated joke. For these final four episodes, the studio got a live orchestra to record the music, instead of using computer samples and single performers like for the rest of the series. The music team were even willing to pay for the orchestral recording themselves if they had to. The track that sticks with me the most is the Angi Kai music between Zuko and Azula - it could have been dramatic and bombastic like between Aang and Ozai, but they went for this muted sombre style. It really helps emphasise that this isn't really supposed to be a 'woo yeah victory!' moment, but actually so sad to see two siblings, only 14 and 16, brought to this, battling each other, by the paths their father set them on. Azula's descent into madness and paranoia after she finds fear and loyalty aren't enough to make people love her is really well done. For her final shots when she's chained up, her voice actress dug deep into some of her own traumas to give such a convincing performance. I've heard it said that she won't rewatch the scene because of that, although I couldn't find a source that confirmed this. (When Katara defeats her, we also see the payoff of when Aang learnt about a 'secret river under the fire palace' in the school episode.) It's interesting that Ty Lee is happy to join the Kyoshi warriors at the end, given that in the beach episode, she complained of having lots of sisters and being part of a matched set. Maybe it shows that she's got over that insecurity? Finally, the very first episode of the series is called 'The Boy in the Iceberg', and the last is called 'Avatar Aang'. The very first word spoken is 'It's' and the very last is 'perfect'. :) If you want to learn a bit more behind the scenes, including a lot about what Asian elements are in the show from real life, I recommend Xiran Jay Zhao's series Cultural Inspirations in Avatar on Youtube!

Watching this with you has been a delight from start to finish! Re: Korra, opinions on it are divided. I don't think it's as flawless as this show (it was beset by production issues), and it has got quite a different vibe, but I reckon you'd enjoy it! I do think a break for something different in between is best though, otherwise the changes might give you a bit of whiplash.

Sarah C

I'm "meh" about Legend of Korra. I hope you'll watch something else (first). I think you'd love Ted Lasso!

Onno Smits

If you're really invested, there is a series of canon graphic novels you have to read. One is titled "The Search" and it tells you what happened to Zuko's mom. I !00% recommend

Dennis Nolasco-Ramirez

While Korra is fun, would be nice to see a different show. Ted Lasso? Poll would be great!

Raj

So the live action Netflix Avatar is not bad, if you want to experience this world again then yeah it could be pretty fun. What I would recommend and would love to see reactions of is the not enough talked about Sequel show, The Legend of Korra. It's exactly how it sounds. It takes place in this same universe, after Avatar, and that's all I think you should know 😅 but thanks so much for reacting to this, Jax! I really love this show so much and I'm happy you see why it's so damn good!

Lorenzo Baxter

I don't know if Korra's story ever established this rule, but I think the question about whether more airbenders could be born into the world has to do with a genetic component and not a spiritual component, which I can't really say I agree with since it has such a connection with the spirit realm.

A) there is a comic that shows what happened with Zuko's mom. B) You really really need to watch the live action movie. It's a rite of passage! C) I really hope you watch Korra next. It's so great. D) The live action TV show is pretty good. I'd still suggest Korra before it.

Excuse My Brains

Would love to see Legend of Korra

KuroDaKing

Perfect ending to a perfect show! As Legends of Korra isn't as good in my opinion it's still a good show and would definitely recommend watching that next. Also, they're currently working on a new show with the same cast in the original, but in their 20's

Jared Hall

Korra is fantastic, though you shouldn't go in expecting "avatar 2". It is different, you need to look with fresh eyes. And Jun did have a bit of a point with Iroh being a bit creepy... When he pretended to be paralyzed so he had an excuse to catch her... Bit weird. There is also a little bit of a tradition amongst reactors to watch the original film. It is... not great. But I think in some ways, watching the movie reminds people how much they loved the animated series.

Greatest story ever fr. Hope you watch legend of Korra too
