National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation (Full Reaction)

It's the first Christmas movie of the season! 🎄🎅You voted and National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation won the poll!

This was a first time watch for me and it was such a blast. It reminded me a bit of Home Alone because of all the Christmas family chaos. ☃️

I'd seen National Lampoon's Vegas Vacation when I was a kid, so I kind of understood the setup going into this. This movie was filled with all the shenanigans you'd expect from a comedic Christmas classic. Also, it was such a joy to see Randy Quaid play Eddie! He brings so much personality to every role and is my favorite character in Independence Day.

Synopsis: As the holidays approach, Clark Griswold wants to have a perfect family Christmas. However, things go awry quickly. Unexpected guests show up, nothing goes to plan, and Clark is left wondering whether or not he will ever get his Christmas bonus!

Runtime: 1:37:00 / Watched on: HBO Max

The attics that I have seen, you have to walk on the rafters or boards that sit on top of the rafter since the floor is the sheetrock for the ceiling of the room below it. Clark was standing on the sheetrock, so in the wrong spot. I have never seen a pull down access to an attic, like in the movie, where I live they are just a framed panel that you remove and use a ladder to go up; so you couldn’t really lock someone in, but you could remove the ladder and they would be stuck.

I think every Hugh’s movie takes place in Chicago! People know Hughes for breakfast club and Ferris beuller but I think the nantional lampoons movies are underrated movies of his

John Hughes wrote both this movie and Home Alone, and his movies are always set in the Chicago suburbs, so that may have something to do with the similarity of the homes in each movie. Also the slapstick humor is heavily prevalent in both movies. It would be fun to see you react to Seinfeld somewhere down the line. Maybe 5 to 10 or so of the most iconic episodes.

Mike Smith

This movie does make me glad that I never did the weeks long visit with family like this. The day long parties were enough for me!

My family used to have big Christmases as well. They were never quite as chaotic as this though. But all those feelings come rushing back when I see them celebrating with a full house. I haven't heard of 30 second Bunnies but that sounds hilarious! Also, I'm so happy you like Lamby's Santa outfit!! ❤️🐑

Jacqueline

Yay! I'm so glad you enjoyed this. Yeah, this movie is the perfect film to watch around the holidays.

It's not Christmas until I watch this movie. Hell, if I'm in a bad mood any time of the year I put this on and feel better. It is endlessly quoted by my friends and family. So no better way to officially kick off the Season than watching my favorite Christmas movie with my favorite reactor.

Such a classic!! I did big Christmases as a kid, but now as an adult, a simple, quiet Christmas is so much better! Chevy Chase has some of the best meltdowns! His rant on his boss is just brilliant! I don't know if you've ever seen or heard of them, but there's a internet cartoon called 30 second Bunnies. They're animated shorts where cartoon bunnies reenact movies in 30 seconds and this is one of the movies they did and it's hilarious! They've also done some movies you've reacted to like Alien, Terminator, and Tucker & Dale vs Evil. They also did the Harry Potter movies! They're very cute and very funny! Speaking of cute, Lamby looked adorable in his Santa outfit!
