Bambi (Full Reaction)

Happy Saturday! I have been wanting to watch some of the older Disney classics that I either haven't see or haven't seen since I was a child. I saw Bambi when I was still a little kid and thought I remembered the plot. Turns out I did not! What an emotional roller coaster!

Bambi is an incredibly moving story about a young deer who is learning how to navigate the difficulties of adolescence. Nature can be harsh and unforgiving. As Bambi learns more about the forest he calls home, he learns to rely on both his natural instincts and his friends. He deals with loss, love, and the cyclical nature of life.

It's quite a short film, and yet so much happens! I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. β€οΈπŸ‘

All I could wait for this horrible moment that Bambis mom died but the moment that the old ones their for him was so special such a sweet impactful moment 😒

Everyone seems to remember Bambi's mother "dying" so much earlier in the movie. It's hilarious each time it comes up. Going by movie logic though, seeing as we see no body I have to assume she lives and merely abandoned her fawn. Which real deer mothers do generally around a year after they are born, with males setting out on their own and females setting up their own near their mothers. Given it's early spring when hunters are out, I'd say it's been roughly a year for Bambi. It's a fun argument to have. ;) Also, the meadow is a dangerous but excellent place for a deer to graze hence it being risked so often. Primitive hunters use to full clear forests so that new growth would shoot up and encourage wildlife, like deer, to browse for that very reason. Also, a bit of trivia. The voice actors for Young Bambi, Young Thumper, and Young Flower are all still alive as far as I know (as well as being the last cast members from this 1942 movie).

Well Jax, with the writer's choice to anthropomorphize the animal characters, they seemed to agree that the females selected their male objectives. Makes me wonder if that's a legacy of 1960s culture, or rooted in more fundamental behavior πŸ€”. It still fit the charm of this movie.

What is so wonderful about this era of Disney animation is that it's almost less like watching a movie as we know them today and more like watching a painting come to life. They are just beautiful movies to look at! Also Jax, the way I believe it works is that an animator will be assigned a specific character or characters to animate and that's all they do. So There was one animator who only animated Bambi and the director would coordinate with everyone to make sure everything fit. "Man has entered the forest" also was the code that animators, producers, and writers for Disney would use to let everyone know when Walt was in the building to come check on how things were going.

I never noticed before how much this movie was like the Lion King either, Bambi being the son of the king of the forest, Simba of the jungle. The circle of life coming back to having their own child at the end. The wise owl / monkey, the weird childhood friends thumper & Flower / Timon & Pumba. The lost of a parent. After over 80 years (Bambi came out in 1942) the animation is still so beautifully done.

Wow! I can see why Disney would think that was too off brand for them. But I am sure the short film would have been really funny!

This is such amazing timing because Ryan Reynolds actually pitched Disney a Deadpool and Bambi crossover sometime after Deadpool 2 (2018) I believe. Something about Deadpool confronting the hunter who killed Bambi's mom, pretty sure one of the Deadpool films had a Bambi reference as well. Ryan said, "I wanted to do a short film of Deadpool interrogating the hunter who killed Bambi's mom. But the whole gist of it is that Deadpool is actually just a huge fan, he's not interrogating β€” he just wants to know how he could be the most loathed Disney character in the history of Disney. And of course, Disney was like, 'Well, I don't think that's ever going to happen.'" "The rug pull of it though is that you think that Deadpool's going to kill the hunter, but Deadpool was actually just a huge fan. He wants to know how he too can be as loathed as the hunter is in the Disney universe, and they just shut that down immediately. Like; 'There's absolutely no way you're doing that'". Summed up, Disney thought it was too dark.
