It's time for another Movie Monday!! This week we are watching X-Men Apocalypse! This movie was so much fun and was definitely one of my favorite X-Men movies.

Worshiped as a god, the immortal Apocalypse becomes the first and most powerful mutant. Awakening after thousands of years, he recruits Magneto and other mutants to create a new world order. Can the X-Men defeat this seemingly unstoppable mutant? *Cue dramatic music*

 X-Men: Apocalypse (Full Reaction)

once you finish al the Xmen movies, it would be nice if you give Xmen 97 a chance, its really a good show for a "cartoon"

Joshua

I hope you watch more animated marvel shows like the most recent X-Men 97 its been amazing!

Spidey Productions

Freefall is ~1000' every 6 seconds, so not quite 15,000 ft. But yeah... awfully deep if you have to dig! :D

Chester Beals

This movie isn't that bad but it feels like a letdown following the amazing Days of Future Past (which is the best X-Men movie imo).

Cameron

Did you, Dearest Jax, notice when ‘Erik’ was floating at the end of the movie? You can always spot wire work. The actor is suspended from a harness around the waist and groin. The giveaway is that the actor’s legs are always spread some. Something about biomechanics. Suspending from the waist causes your legs to spread. I’ve never done it and I’m sure it’s improved over the decades but most every report I’ve heard is that it’s very uncomfortable at best and downright painful at worst. Trying to rubber band the actor at the knees both makes it more painful and tends to pitch the actor’s head downwards. Something about moving the center of gravity up or down or something. Everybody’s body is, of course, different but, generally speaking, women have a harder time doing wire work because their CoG is, I believe, naturally lower than a similar height man. I have no doubt that having the strongest possible core strength eases the discomfort and ends up appearing more ‘natural,’ if you will on screen.

Lamar Smith

Marvel really did us dirty starting off the multiverse saga with an epic boner joke. There were so many fan theories with that show.

Alvin Baca

I can't wait for your Logan reaction. I personally like this movie, there are some moments that are a bit cheesey but it's not the worst. I like apocalypse in this movie, I think your analysis is spot on with him.

Alvin Baca

Best part of the movie to me is the beginning with Erik and his new family. The tragedy of the guy that just can't get a break in life. Feels like it's part of a much more dramatic movie. Also, I know it's comic book logic, but the very beginning where they buried Apocalypse they were in freefall for about 30 seconds, that puts the hole at over 15,000 ft deep, lol. That's a lot of digging for those poor Egyptian guys...

night crawler was the child of mystique and azazel who was in first class he's the red one that teleports the same as night crawler

"I think Apocalypse is the best villain I've seen in the X-Men world" - Jax Wait until you watch X-Men 97 you'll discover some really cool characters and re-discover characters who are closer to their comics counterpart. Can't say much for spoiler reasons of course but there's a certain villain in X-Men 97 who I didn't know much about from the comics but has moved up my rankings as my favourite Marvel villain of all time. Cannot wait to see how X-Men 97 ends tomorrow on May 15th but I think you'd adore 97 after watching the films. -------------------------------------------------------- Nightcrawler & Angel Nightcrawler looked the part in this film but I still much preferred him in X2 but both versions are really good. I do really like Angels look in this film along with his Archangel form while serving under Apocalypse. But killing him off in a plane crash in this film was disappointing, he's one of the original X-Men in the comics appearing as an X-Men in the first X-Men comic back in 1963 so it's a shame they never treated him with much respect in the films and then rushed into him becoming Archangel in this new timeline. You'll recall Angel from X3: The Last Stand as the little kid who tries to cut his wings off during the intro. While during present day his dad creates a cure for Mutants and tries to cure his now adult son Angel but he escapes out a window and fly's away. He later "joins" the X-Men but never shows up again in any future film for unknown reasons. The next X-Men film was Days of Future Past so I assume Angel was one of the X-Men killed during the dark future. ---------------------------------------------------------- Jubilee :) We actually see Jubilee (Young Asian Teen with the Yellow Jacket) who was a big character in the Animated Series but in this she's very much just a side character who never uses her powers. Jubilee also showed up during the original films as well as a background character. She was a teenager during the 2000 films so like Angel they re-worked these characters ages moving their birthdays back at least a good decade. Jubilee did show up in a really cool advert promoting the School for promotion for X-Men: Apocalypse and is by far the most screen time she gets when put beside the film Jubilee Advert Link - https://youtu.be/_kniQrk9jw0 -------------------------------------------------------- Wolverine's design I Love the whole look of Wolverine during his breakout scene. The helmet to the belt it's all pulled from the comics when he was being held as Weapon X. It's basically a more comic accurate depiction of Wolverine as Weapon X than what we saw in X-Men Origin. Logan was also held and active as Weapon X for a time in the comics unlike X-Men Origins where he escapes right away. So Logan being captured and held as a weapon is closer to the comics but there's zero involvement from the X-Men characters in his escape. ------------------------------------------------------------ Storm Storm looks really cool rocking her 1980s Mohawk from the comics, She's also rocking her Mohawk in X-Men 97 as well. Her origin story in this film is very differant though to the comics along with her evolvement with Apocalypse. Film very much did it's own thing with a few of these characters. Also thanks to Logan seeing Storm when he wakes during the ending of Days of Future Past we know that this version of Storm grew into Halle Berry in this new timeline. And of course at the end of this film Storm decides to stick around and we see her in the danger room as an official member of The X-Men. -------------------------------------------------------------- Psylocke & Flightsuits :( Olivia Munn as Psylocke is perfect. Her outfit is by far the most comic accurate costume in any X-Men film including the Deadpool films which have the best costumes as well. Olivia actually pushed for her character to look as comic accurate as possible including her outfit. All the characters serving under Apocalypse look really good even if they all share the same design language. it really puts to shame the boring Flight suit worn by the X-Men during the final battle. I hated that they introduced Flights Suits again and this time it was just generic military suits while in First Class at least they were customized by Beast and had the X-Men colors of Yellow and Blue. But beyond the Flight Suits this film featured some solid outfits. ------------------------------------------------------------ Danger Room Outfits I do love the ending in the danger room thanks to the X-Men wearing some really amazing outfits that are by far the closest we've came to comic accurate X-Men outfits in live action. Cyclops has his iconic blue suit with that Y looking strap across his chest with the X-Men symbol with hints of yellow while Mystique is finally wearing clothes in her blue form something the movies decided to throw away and make her nude. Nightcrawler looks great in red and white as well and overall the outfits look really good for a short scene and could've been improved and used for a whole film after they put more detail into them. Without any spoilers Dark Phoenix (2019) introduced new outfits so we never got to see those danger room outfits again :( --------------------------------------------------------------- End Credit - No Spoilers Essex Corp was something created for this film but the name "Essex" hints towards a certain X-Men character who was being set up for future films. But Unfortunately for Fox these films never happened and Fox was bought by Disney in 2019 so we never got to see this character. It's not fully irrelevant as elements are used in Logan (All I'll say) so you can still look at this end credit scene as setting up Logan. But I do hear rumours of that the first MCU film will feature this character as a villain so even though we never saw them in the Fox X-Men films we'll most likely see them in the MCU. ------------------------------------------------------------------- Final Thoughts But yeah overall I did enjoy this film for the most part but Its very much on the weaker side for me when it comes to the X-Men films. Thankfully Logan is next and then Deadpool 2 I believe so that's exciting. The end credit scene also hints towards a certain I cannot wait for future reactions to Deadpool 3 when that releases and hopefully X-Men 97 if that's something you'd like to watch. I'll shut up about X-Men 97 now lol

LittleGalaxyBoy

This one is a fun movie, though I think Apocalypse was kind of rushed and wasted, but I think you need 2-3 movies to build him up properly. Which is also the time needed to build Angel as a compelling character who you could care about and him joining Apocalypse would have had a big impact. Sophie Turner, while I think she's awesome.. I don't think she was good casting for Jean, I think it was more about wanting some of the Game of Thrones popularity rub off on them and her having the correct hair color. On the other hand this was the best depiction of Scott in live-action so far, at least he had personality and got to show what he can do. Quicksilver is one of the highlights of every movie he is in, he is nothing like the Quicksilver we see in the comics, but he is still a really fun character.

DracoMint

Disagree man lol yeah I get it he isn't like in the comics or cartoon. But this interpretation isn't bad in my opinion. And he is very threatening I especially love that "no more superpowers" line.

Armando Castillo

This one is pretty fun. I think first class is my favorite but rewatching this with you makes me rethink this lol i'm like damn this is even more enjoyable then i remembered lol

Armando Castillo

I wouldn't say this is my favorite, but I did like it a lot! I think it was great to see another major mutant villain that wasn't Magneto and I thought Oscar Issac did great as Apocalypse. Like you said Jax, he was perfectly manipulative and his powers were pretty horrifying. I hope you check out the deleted scenes for this movie too. They're pretty fun. You see more of the kids at the mall and see a little more how different humans and mutants live together especially since Kurt is very obviously a mutant. What happens to Erik in this movie is so sad too. Michael Fassbender just acted the hell out of that moment of his wife and daughter being killed. Very excited to see your reaction to Logan next!!! My favorite X-Men movie and I know this was all building to Deadpool, but Logan is the one I've wanted to see you react to!

Ed Scoglio

I previously said my thoughts on the movie but now I just want to go over some other supporting characters : Psylocke - This is most probably the Betsy Braddock variant, this character has been a member of the X-Men, sometimes an adversary to the X-Men it just depends on the comic series to what she is. Angel - When he has his feathered wings he is known as Angel, but his metal wings variant goes by ArchAngel, Apocalypse gives him the metal wings in the comics too. There have been many different characters have become the four Horsemen, Wolverine being one of them.

Andrew Polinski

This isn't one of my favorites(X2 is still tops for me), mostly because Apocalypse was horribly miscast. I like Oscar Isaac but he was the wrong person for this role. The makeup job wasn't great, and the voice he used just didn't suit the character at all. It was trying to be Voldemort meets Batman. They needed something more James Earl Jones meets Christopher Lee, coming from inside an Iron Man armor. As for the post-credits scene, the original intent was to tease a character who would be the villain in Logan, but plans got changed. Essex refers to Nathaniel Essex, the man who would eventually become the villain Mister Sinister. He doesn't appear in Logan, but the scene isn't completely irrelevant to the upcoming movie. And that's all I'll say. Something else worth noting - the white-haired Horsewoman who preserved Apocalypse in the opening sequence was played by Monique Ganderton, one of the top stuntwomen around. She's doubled for some very big names including multiple Marvel actresses, particularly the taller ones like Rebecca Romijn and Famke Janssen, since Monique herself is 5'11". In more recent years she's also become a stunt coordinator on movies like Avengers: Endgame.

Patrick Egan

Hey were you ever going to go back and watch the Rogue Cut of Days of Future Past? It is a far superior edit of the film which has a ton of cool deleted scenes.

Jackie McDonalds

I 100% agree with you that this is the best X-Men movie! We even get more Jubilee! they teased her a bit in the past movies, but at least we got a scene of her at a mall! I remember the animated series with her escaping Giant Sentinels in a mall.

Mister Lou

Why was this film badly received, well it is simple, Apocalypse in this is horrendous. In the comics and animated series Apocalypse is one of the X-Men's greatest foes and is also very menacing, but this Apocalypse is as menacing as a little white rabbit. Oscar Isaac is a great actor just poorly cast for the role. For the most part the action scenes are some of the least inspired in the X-Men movies, the final battle in particular is very bland. If there is someone in the MCU who Apocalypse should have been compared to it would have been Thanos but unfortunately we got Justin Hammer (Ironman 2). For me this is the 2nd worst X-Men movie just behind well what we have coming up (not talking about Logan) , and barely ahead of Last Stand.

In DP

Lamar Smith

It seriously may not have added anything to this equation, Dearest Jax, but does this in any way make you more comfortable with the casting of this actor’s ’Quicksilver’ in ‘Wandavision?’

Lamar Smith

OMFG I CANT WAIT FOR LOGAN, my fav xmen movie by far!

Alex Ocean

Now you understand better the exchange between ‘Colossus’ & NTW, “Please! House blowing up every few years build character!”

Lamar Smith

Do you ever watch the YouTube channel ComicsExplained? If you haven't read any comics than it's an endless rabbit hole that may or may not contain spoilers but probably not... in a court of law🤔😂 you're gonna love it🤔🙏🙂 Note to self: don't give any memories back to JAX after she's been through a crazy X-Men adventure; give at least a day or two🤔🙏🫡 Aaaaaggghhhhh Logan is sooo close😂👍

Gabriel Urias

I'm glad you liked this one. I like it a lot too. For whatever reason, it wasn't very well received when it came out.

Mike Smith

Admittedly this isn’t my favorite X-Men film, but it’s great to see Peter join the team. I was also saddened about Alex being killed off, but I loved that he cared for his brother Scott and he knew that he’d be in good hands with the X-Men. Jubilee is short for her full name Jubilation Lee. Her nickname is also her mutant codename, and it’s another way of saying celebration. And what other way to celebrate than with fireworks? This movie also introduced the world to Lana Condor. It was her major acting debut. Jubilee is a very popular character among the X-Men. In the 90’s cartoon, she was a foster kid who was confronted by Sentinels in the season 1 two-parter premiere. The X-Men rescued her from the robots and welcomed her to the team. She's also back in the continuation X-Men '97. Now that you made it this far, I’m super excited for Logan 2017. Before then, it’d be cool if you reacted to this teaser for Deadpool 2. https://youtu.be/Z5ezsReZcxU?si=7anC5wcbDOdhTZAF Don’t worry. I promise it doesn’t show anything from the film, because this teaser actually dropped with Logan when it was in theaters. The sequel hasn’t entered production yet. It was just a way to get the crowd pumped. And finally, as far as X-Men movies go this is the last one to feature a cameo from Stan Lee. The woman he was hugging was his real life wife Joan. She passed away in May 2017, about a year and a half before her husband did.

Aw yea!
