Terminator 2: Judgment Day (Full Reaction)

What an EPIC action movie! Arnold is back as the Terminator and Linda Hamilton returns as Sarah Connor. Get ready for a phenomenal action film set eleven years after the first Terminator film.

Watched on: Paramount+ / Runtime: 2:17:02 (I accidentally say it's 2:17:03 seconds)

Hope you enjoy this!! ❤️🐑

They have the hand but they destroyed both chips. The hand is only a new metal discovery. Just a guess I didn't see the third movie.

The CGI in this movie isn't just "great for its time", it's amazing for ANY time. That's because the original artists literally wrote their own code, with all their own calculus, to make the graphics work -- I mean, this was before modern software and loadable packages, so everything was custom. You either knew math AND art, or you didn't get the job. The Corridor Crew VFX team on YouTube recently tried to recreate the scene where the T-1000 walks through the jail-bar door and they couldn't do it. They tried two different approaches with two different artists, and nothing held a candle to the original because the software wasn't meant to re-merge a split object back into a singular cohesive one. They literally don't make movies like this anymore. https://youtu.be/YXehBx0Yc_w?si=4QAl0OqEUo9VPC6b

Dan

Watching badass Sarah Connor in this movie definitely awakened something in young me 😅

Quinton Turner

watching it now yep missed so much backstory in this :(

Liam Harrold

Fun Fact: There's a Special Director's Cut of this movie from James Cameron that includes a bunch of deleted scenes as well as an entirely different (and much more conclusive) alternate ending, which, if included in the theatrical release of the movie, would've shut down the possibility of all the terrible sequels that came after it which James Cameron had no involvement in. Also, if you're into videogames, Terminator: Resistance is an excellent game which expands on the Future War lore prior to Reese going back in time.

Jackie McDonalds

I agree with all that except for the last one🤔 Dawn of Fate kinda ignores the sequels after T2 and wasn't nearly as bad to me... what did you think of it?

Gabriel Urias

Next up - Terminator 3… The Missing Hand 😂 (aka “T3: Whoopsiedoodle!”)

CatbookPro

I 100% never thought I'd cry over a Terminator! They did a fantastic job humanizing him!

Jacqueline

That is pretty funny!

Jacqueline

That's a great point!

Jacqueline

What a bummer!

Jacqueline

and the point Jax realizes that Arnold is a good guy = priceless!

AZalan

Every time i see Robert Patrick in something, I think about his role in T2

AZalan

Please do more classic Arnold movies! You should watch Kindergarten Cop!

Chris Chuvanvanijkul

Fair warning Jax, starting with the next Terminator Movie, it starts going on a Hollywood Cash grab slide into poorer and poorer story, imho.

Sabrecho

I think it's mainly the chip that's driving the AI/neural network research division at Cyberdyne and Dyson specifically mentions "it took us in new directions" when talking about it. There'd also be more pieces than just the arm - we see during the slow motion explosion in the first movie that at least one leg is completely intact. But at the end of the day, you're not going to get much info on how to make an AI from examining an arm or leg compared to the chip that was running it.

Alexis

Imo you don't "have to" but I'd strongly reccomend watching them in order. This is definitely a continuation of the first one and Sarah's character growth can't be fully appreciated otherwise imo.

Eric

And it was the chip that Miles said all his work was based on. Not the arm.

Eric

I love James Cameron so much. Not doing does the dude makes absolute banger films and is a great person, but the best part is that he doesn't even consider filmmaking his number one passion. His true love is deep sea diving expeditions! So much so in fact, that he was the first person to do a solo submarine trip to the bottom of the Mariana Trench in 2012! He famously has said, "I make movies to fund my diving expeditions" which is hilarious considering he's made 3 of the top 5 grossing films ever haha.

DaftBasterd

Terminator 1 and 2 are a perfect duology. Really that's where the franchise ends. 3 is a decent guilty pleasure movie but after that it's a sharp drop-off.

Cameron

Do I have to watch the first one to get the second one? Or can I just watch this one by itself?

Alex Ocean

I kind of suspect this was the movie you saw with your father years ago. It's much more kid-friendly, and you thought Arnold would be a hero in the first one, which makes sense if this was the movie you guys saw.

Horace Cocroft

Hi Jax, in my understanding, the hand left behind was wrecked in that machine. Also the most important was destroy the chip, the main source of skynet. And, now confess: you never thought you would end up crying over the Terminator! 😀

Dorival Jr

The hand left behind in the steel mill doesn't come back. I think that it was so mangled that it was unidentifiable so it would just be throw into the molten steel or the scrap pile. That's what I tell myself anyway haha

Ed Scoglio

Yes! Awesome reaction, Jax. Awesome movie. One of the best sequels ever. Right up there with The Empire Strikes Back, The Godfather part II and Aliens and Imo the best action movie ever made. Such a fantastic thrill ride from start to finish and easily stands the test of time. Little trivia; Robert Patrick who played the T-1000 learned to shoot a gun without blinking as he felt a robot would not blink. Also, he based his body movements on that of sharks. Very efficient, no wasted movements and just intense and deadly but also very graceful. Linda Hamilton got absolutely ripped, like you said. She saw how intense Arnold trained for this and wanted to match his intensity. The part where she picks the lock with a paper clip is real, btw. She wanted to do it herself and had to learn how to. The scenes where the T-1000 appears as Sarah towards the end is not actually Linda Hamilton but her twin sister, Leslie who also appears as the younger, waitress Sarah Conner in Sarah's nightmare. The security guard and the T-1000 in the hospital are also twins. You can see the both of them together in Good Morning Vietnam with Robin Williams. Finally, Arnold wore hawaiian swim shorts during the shoot of the biker bar scene in the beginning as a gag to get a laugh out of the other actors and the filming crew.

Eric

Now I absolutely have to watch Llamageddon. Its queued up for after work, I'll let you know.

Richard Flores

I don't think there's any "advanced" technology inherent in the hand itself, nothing that would advance the development of AI or Skynet anyway. And if you claimed it was from the future, they'd probably put you in an institution. :)

NO SPOILERS FOLLOW: This movie came out before I was born, so obviously I didn't see these as they came out. I saw the first four all on the same day for the first time when I was 8 or 9. I said on your "Terminator" reaction that this one is just under "Aliens" for me on the "Greatest Sequels of all Time" list, but it's so very close. I'm glad you liked this movie. I couldn't find our regular theatrical cut DVD, so I had to watch the Special Edition, which thankfully has the same ending. I actually love that ending with the final voiceover by Sarah and that last line. There's a second special edition that removes that ending in favor of like a "happier" ending, but I cringe so hard when I see it. I thought this ending was far better. Now, the following were my thoughts after seeing this movie for the first time, but before watching the third and fourth movies (NO SPOILERS, I REPEAT). A lot of reactors are surprised at the beginning when Sarah says they sent two terminators back in time. It makes sense given what we know was said in the first movie for that to throw some people. But when I first saw this, I asked my dad if Skynet was so smart, why they didn't send a whole bunch of Terminators back in time to go after not just Sarah and John, but like Sarah's parents, and to go after John in like grade school, middle school, high school, college, and maybe the same for Sarah too. My brilliant thought as a kid was that I got pictures taken for school every single year and my dad had yearbooks every year in middle school and high school. So, Skynet would have had a good idea of where they were and how their appearance changed every single year. (I forgot the part from the first movie about how most of the records were lost in the war and Skynet didn't even know Sarah's full name. I was only 9-ish). But anyway, the idea of more Terminators just made sense to me. I don't know if you intend to watch more of the sequels or not. I personally enjoyed the third and fourth movies. A lot of people seem to like to recommend that reactors skip them, but I've always been in the camp of "Watch them and decide for yourself." Personally, my theory about the hate for the additional sequels (and this is just my opinion, mind you) is that it's less that they're actually bad movies, and more that they had the misfortune of following up on two of the BEST first and second movies of a series ever made. It was a really high standard to live up to, and they didn't hit that mark. They're fine movies on their own, but there's a noticeable dip in quality (from AMAZING for T1 and T2 to "fine") so some people who loved the first two took a really critical stance on the rest. I truly believe that if they'd been unchanged, but unrelated to the Terminator franchise (if they were just sci-fi movies about machines from the future coming back to kill someone important instead of specifically being about the established Terminator characters and lore) I feel like they'd have been seen as perfectly decent sci-fi movies. Nothing groundbreaking, but not subject to the hate they get from some fans. The same goes for several other franchises I could mention. Whether you watch them for the channel or not, I would personally recommend that you at least check them out on your own time and see what you think. Contrary to what some of the haters would have you believe, they are not, in my opinion, so bad that you'll lament the two hours spent watching them and bitterly wish for years to come that you could get that time back. They're not "Llamageddon," I promise. Watch THAT movie (well, try... if you can get through it, you deserve a cookie), and everything you ever watch after that will seem like Shakespeare! I guarantee it! ✌️🤓

BubblyRainbows

There aren't many movies that get so close to perfection, I don't think any movie is really truly "perfect", but T2 comes insanely close and is one of the handful that can boast that. This is a 33 year old movie and it is still absolutely amazing!! And seeing you get so emotional at the end of the movies made me want to give you a hug and tell you it was going to be ok! Also, your idea that Skynet would send a Terminator back to mimic the president and make sure it is created is easily a better idea for a sequel than any of the movies that follow!

Ed Scoglio

I've seen this movie [I don't even know how many] times. I have never panicked about that hand during the grand finale the way you panicked about that hand during the grand finale. And I am kicking myself. Because yes, that should be their first priority. And you are right about why us viewers are distracted. We're all kind of high on catharsis and closure and drama and fear and "Bye, Robbie P! Swim well!" and "No, don't go Arnie!" feelings. But... But someone has GOT to go back and destroy that hand.

Richard Flores

Dearest Jax, again, my apologies, this might be long. There were groundbreaking computer effects in this, it’s kind of James Cameron’s thing, no? However, there were two interesting practical effects. The sanitarium guard that got a Royal Flush on his coffee just before…… how did Deadpool put it?…… “That one guy turned that other guy into a f-ing kebab” by his ‘twin?’ Those are actual identical twins. They’re also in ‘Good Morning, Vietnam.” Later, when ‘Sarah’ showed up twice on screen in the steel mill? Well, Linda Hamilton has a fraternal twin sister that looked enough like her that with a touch of makeup, boom, two ‘Sarah’s.’ I saw this movie when I was in the Army stationed in Germany. It was the first movie I had ever seen where I purchased a wonderful local lager from the concession stand. You made the observation twice, I believe, that Linda got “ripped” for this movie. The production company hired an Israeli Special Forces soldier to beat her into shape as well as teach her the weapons training she displayed. ‘People’ magazine ran a whole story at the time and males and females in all sorts of professions clamored for a similar workout regime. At its release, this was the gold standard of what actresses aspiring to do action/adventure movies were meant to look like. I’ve often wondered how many actresses must have cussed Linda Hamilton’s name at 6:00am?

Lamar Smith

I was actually wondering about the Stanton twins during this watchalong. Did anyone ever explain how the actors split the role in the scenes where there was only one of them onscreen?

Alex Ch

Hi this was a lot of fun thanks! I don’t think you were wondering, but there is not likely to be much demand for the third movie or the fourth, fifth, sixth… The quality drops off a cliff with Cameron and Arnold departing.

Alex Ch

T2 is definitely one of those rare sequels that's often(though not universally, everyone's got their own opinion) considered superior to the original. The CGI morphing was still VERY new technology at the time, and even though it does look a bit dated I'm impressed with how well it actually holds up. Jax, I was eagerly awaiting the moment when you realized who the "bad guy" and who the "protector" were, and you did not disappoint :) Fun fact: In the hospital when the T-1000 morphed from the tiled floor into the security guard, that wasn't bluescreen to put them both in the scene, those actors are identical twins Don and Dan Stanton. Oh, and that spin move Arnold does with the shotgun is STILL one of the coolest gun tricks I've ever seen in a movie. It just looks so badass :)

Patrick Egan

Terminator 2 sits up there with Empire Strikes Back as a sequel that improves on the tale being told. Great fun, as always! Some trivia! The movie had two separate twins in it! Both Don and Dan Stanton, played the role of security guard at the pysch hospital and the T-1000 mimic. Additionally Linda Hamilton's twin, Lelsie Geareen (RiP), also shot several scenes together. Robert Patrick, the T-1000 actor, was able to catch up to Edward Furlong on his dirtbike several times when attempting to escape from the mall due to his intense training regime. That would have been a quick movie! Finally, there were some concerns with CGI appearance on the final chase with the T-1000 in the helicopter. It was ultimately decided to do it for real, which is insane, and credit to the pilot (Charles A. Tamburro, if I have my information correct) for pulling off the maneuver.

Kiera

I've heard Shogun is a great show! I'd love to check that out if there is enough interest in it for reactions.

Jacqueline

I didn't realize there was another option other than the theatrical!

Jacqueline

Dearest Jax, I’m SQUARELY in the corner of ‘Shogun.’ It’s an absolute masterpiece!!! However, I’ve just binged ‘A Gentleman in Moscow’ and my eyes won’t dry. In the strongest possible terms I urge BOTH these on you.

Lamar Smith

THEATRICAL RELEASE. For anyone wondering before you start, its not extended edition, just so ya know which one to watch along with.

Senec

I thought both movies were fantastic. It's always a pleasant surprise when the sequel is this great!

Jacqueline

Yes! I had to see it because the first one was so amazing!

Jacqueline

Hahaha! Omg that's so awesome that you know this movie so well!! 😍

Jacqueline

Indeed this is one of the rare instances where the sequel is better than the original

Joseph salazar

I’m so glad you got to this one so quickly! I will have to dust off my Blu Ray of this one, if I can find it.

Mike Smith

Was expecting X-Men apocalypse up next, this is a much better surprise 😁. Seen this movie so many times I can watch along without the movie and still not miss a line of dialogue 😅

Steve J

I hope you enjoy this!!!❤️🎉

Jacqueline

Ohhh! Look at you trying to help end my day with a cherry on top…and some chocolate syrup…and sprinkles. Maybe some cookie dough too!!! 🤣🤗
