The Wolverine (Full Reaction)

I think Trask Industries reminds me of Stark Industries. That's probably why it sounds familiar.

Jacqueline

The chopstick thing was funny.

Jacqueline

I didn't recognize them either!

Jacqueline

He went all out for this movie! It's impressive. I'll keep a lookout for the light bulb moment!

Jacqueline

Yeah, he worked so hard for this movie.

Jacqueline

Days of Future Past is next I believe, then DP

Steve J

I think xmen origins Wolverine is the weakest one honestly. This one I enjoy a bit more even tho I'll agree the plot isn't the most solid it'd better than the other one. But wait till you see Logan now that puts all them to shame

Armando Castillo

One other comment - the original movie was 2hrs 18min. it was cut down for Disney. While I understand cutting the really bloody violence (Can we say street snow blower ninja killer ) - the larger cuts just made it more jarring / disjointed.

Joseph E. Jackson

There definitely was a reference to Trask before but I can't remember when. Possibly WandaVision. Also I just noticed that Stark and Trask have the same letters. I also noticed something but I can't say until you watch Deadpool which I hope is next.

Doug Watson

So is Deadpool next? I'm so excited!

Doug Watson

The 3rd act is easily the biggest issue people have with the movie and even the director James Mangold acknowledges it. He said that a lot of it was based on studio pressure to have big CGI action to keep up with the other big Comic book movies from that year like Thor 2 and Man of Steel. Mangold wanted a smaller, more intimate movie, but he needed to put in bigger action and it was like a square peg into a round hole sort of thing. He got the chance to make the movie he really wanted with the next Wolverine movie, Logan. That's the one I'm excited for you to see!

Ed Scoglio

Yeah they made Wolverine the main character of the original trilogy and everyone else a side character, which is really not what X-Men should be, it should be an ensemble where the focus shifts depending on the story instead of putting one character in the front like they did with Wolverine. I do enjoy these movies for what they are, but they really did most of the characters dirty by not showing much of their personalities and sidelining them for Wolverine. He is an awesome character but he isn't supposed to be the only main character.

DracoMint

:-) I wasn't quite comfortable with the portrayal of the relationship between Logan and Rogue in the previous movies. It might well have been meant as an echo of the Logan-Kitty relationship in the comics, but that one was more clearly paternal.

WOLVERINE... And The X-Men: Oh yeah Logan is alot of peoples favourites simply because he's been the main focus of the X-Men films. So naturally Wolverine has the most character development and screen time out of anyone else. There's other reasons as well as to why Logan is so beloved but the heavy focus o his character helped massively into making him the face of the X-Men. I know I've mentioned X-Men 97 ALOT so sorry about that. But people who've only watched the films have been falling in love with other X-Men related characters thanks to the massive development and justice that X-Men 97 has done to these characters, everyone gets equal amount of screen time and development. The director of X-Men 97 even stated to Marvel that he didn't want X-Men 97 to be the "Wolverine Show" but an X-Men show. Logan Fought in the Pacific? Logan being in the pacific in August 1945 is a little difficult to explain as just a year pier he was stationed in the Western theatre taking part in the Normandy landings on June 1944 depicted in the opening of Origins. My guess is the allies saw Logan as one hell of a solider and decided to send him to the pacific on some special missions. In the comics Logan did fight in the Pacific as well and was even a POW showcased in the comic Wolverine: Logan. This comic also showed him being caught in the atomic bombing of Hiroshima. This is what the opening is loosely based on but with alot of changes as the comic book has a much greater story surrounding these events. Movie Based on: This movie as a whole is loosely based on the miniseries "Wolverine" from 1982 that began in the Canadian Rockies before the action shifted to Japan. The movie itself draws heavily from the miniseries as like this film it's really the first solo Wolverine film minus Origins. The comic did take place in the 1980s Japan though and I would've loved to see Logan during this time period. Logan himself has a rich history with Japan like mentioned by Patrick Egan and you could argue that Logan is as much Japanese as he is Canadian in spirit. Viper: Ophelia Sarkissian introduced as Madame Hydra in Captain America #110 (1968) and later as Viper Captain America #180 (1974) has heavily ties to Hydra, one of the reasons why she wears green. She later left the group and reunited the Serpent Squad, killing the original Viper and taking his name. Fun little fact Captain America: Civil War was actually revealed as Captain America: Serpent Society hinting that the film would deal with the Serpent Squad along with Hydra but they changed it live on sage to CIVIL WAR and everyone went wild. Viper is very much a Captain America villain who overtime starting to interact with the X-Men, Wolverine etc. For legal reason they couldn't mention her Hydra connections in this film as Fox only own the rights to The X-Men. I mean her being connected to Hydra more sense than what we got in the actual film lol Silver Samurai: Kenuichio Harada in the comics is the Silver Samurai introduced in Daredevil #111 (1974) funny enough. As Harada is a Mutant (Never brought up in the movie) the rights to his character are owned by Fox as of this film, would've loved to see him in the Daredevil show though. The armour we see worn by Ichirō Yashida (old man) is a little closer to what the Sliver Samurai looks like in the comics just without a red rising sun on the chest and a mouth opening. It's much larger in the film acting like an exosuit while in the comics it's closer to an Iron Man suit just in the design of a Samurai. Sliver Samurai was also the field leader of Big Hero Six in the comics so that's a fun connection. Harada never wears the armour in this film but I'm glad we at least saw a version of The Silver Samurai. The Ending: So the ending of this film has alot of questions surrounding the return of Charles. Professor X at the end of X3: Last Stand transferred himself over to his brain dead identical twin brother who was overseen by Moira MacTaggert.... Not the biggest fan of this at all. In the comic's Charles does not have a twin brother with his only real brother being Cain Marko who is actually the Juggernaut. Both are Brother in laws though. The whole idea of Charles having a twin brother was simply written into the films so they could bring him back. Deleted Scene: This film did have a really cool deleted scene where Logan was given a package by Yukio on the plane, revealed to be a yellow and tan Wolverine suit, mask and all pulled right out of the comics. You can still see Yukio with the package but she never gives it to Logan in the final film :( Here's the link to the scene - https://youtu.be/QXwJJqUc34M?t=80

LittleGalaxyBoy

Also, "I need a Hiro..." :-)

Happy Hanukkah

Trask as a long history in the comics, but not in the movies you have seen yet, the only hint was in X-Men Last Stand when they train in the Danger room (which probably was not named in the movie but is the training room with holograms)

David Bourgeois

Shingen, Mariko's father is played by Hiroyuki Sanada who's also Toranaga from Shogun

David Bourgeois

Wolverine in the comics has significant ties to Japan, so there were a lot of fans calling for a Wolverine movie set there. While this movie definitely has flaws, it's still pretty fun overall. Yukio was a really fun character, I would have enjoyed seeing more adventures of her & Logan together. Fun note: the actor playing Shingen(Yashida's son and Mariko's father) is Hiroyuki Sanada. He was the manager of the Osaka Continental in John Wick 4, and he's currently starring in the new Shogun series on FX/Hulu(which is a REALLY good show, btw).

Patrick Egan

This was only the second time I have watched this movie, but I remember it being so much better than it actually was this time through. And yeah that chopstick thing was a big continuity error.

Andrew Polinski

As well, the bad fiancé was ‘Koji’ from John Wick 4

Lamar Smith

I think my brain has been Twitter-poisoned. All my brain kept saying is "age gap! age gap!" when Logan and Mariko hooked up lol

Andy

Compare Huge JackedMan's body in this to the first X-Men lool. Also, watch "Logan" and you'll have a lightbulb moment for something that is said in this movie. That's all I'll say for now hehe.

Andy

Dearest Jax, I’m SURE you are a ‘Pitch Perfect’ kind of girl. Did you recognize ‘Yukio’ as ‘Lillie?’

Lamar Smith

I'm pretty sure the theatrical cut is more widely available, though.

Patrick Egan

Next time, X-Men: Days of Future Past (The Rogue Cut).

Aldo Gonzales

It still boggles my mind how impossibly ripped Hugh got for this movie.
