Miss Sloane (Full Reaction)

This movie had been highly recommended to me and I decided to check it out since I love Jessica Chastain's character work. The first film I saw her in was The Help and she was incredible. I really enjoyed the twists and turns of this film! I was so surprised by how it all unfolded.

Miss Sloane (Full Reaction)

LOVED your reaction! and I so wanted to recommend you watching Molly's Game! but considering you've already seen it, I'd highly recommend The Trial of The Chicago Seven.

Mister Lou

You are TRULY kind, Jax. Thank you SO much, Jax. Have a wonderful holiday season. We’re SO excited to see what the future brings for you. The actor that plays Pietro in WV, besides the X-Men films, you’ll get a super-quick glimpse of him in one of the Deadpool movies. Also, on that episode of WV, did you catch the movie marquee? Advertising for ‘The Incredibles?’ Hope you get to those right after BH6! Thank you SO much, again, Jax

I'm so sorry she's going through such a terrible situation! Yeah, I can send her a message! ❤️

Jacqueline

Thanks for your reaction. I saw this movie, think it's good.

I think a better movie on lobbying is "The American President" with Michael Douglas and Annette Benning. It's less melodramatic and less cynical and the movie is written by Aaron Sorkin so the monologues are better.

Boy if there is... one division I'd be interested in, it's the subdivision where lives a certain scarlet individual. Not... thinking of anything in particular. Just wanda-ing out loud. Just vishin' for any news.

If this movie is true, someone releasing footage of a Supreme Court Justice voting a very specific way on a very specific question looks like he’s someone’s trying to make sure the judge doesn’t flip flop on the issue. Are we SURE this isn’t real?

Lamar Smith

This movie has got me thinking. I watched a news report after watching this movie, sort of asking, “If this was real, what would it look like in our world?” So, the context: Trump’s argument (This is COMPLETELY non-partisan, promise!) that he cannot be charged for crimes because he has immunity has made its way to the Supreme Coury. According to the story, just before they arrived to the Justices, footage was released of one of the Justices, years ago, making a verbatim ruling that the President CAN be prosecuted AFTER he’s no longer President.

Jessica Chastain is great! This was an interesting film. I enjoyed it and I hope you like it as well! It's got a much bigger cast than I was expecting.

Jacqueline

Jax, I was wondering if I could ask for a favor. McKenzie has been bed-ridden for two weeks with a spine issue. It’s been a sorta crummy December for her. If you at all like the gift, perhaps a holiday message to her…..???

Lamar Smith

I appreciate you taking the time to send me something! That is so kind of you. I'll make sure to check it ❤️🐑

Besides the philosophy and political philosophy issues broached in this movie, another important ancient treatise was truly embodied by Sloane’s maneuverings: Sun Tzu “The Art of War.” It’s a super short read and will teach you things that’ll help your channel and all business ventures. Some of the famous takeaways: Know yourself and know your enemy and you need not fear the results of 1000 battles and When You’re Strong, Appear weak. When you’re weak, appear strong.

On your comment about when Sloane outs/uses Esme and you wondered about what was narrated as the circumstances of the massacre Eame survived. You noted that “opponents of the Bill would,” essentially, “say the circumstances of that are not addressed in this Bill!” The counter to that, I think, is to say what the gun lobby always falls back to: “This is a start…..” to wit the pro-gun folk say, “See??!!?? We can’t give an inch because they always want more. I’d HIGHLY recommend Jim Jefferies ‘Gun Control.’ It’s on YT in two pieces and it’s taught in Yale law school. It’s somewhat foul-mouthed standup that makes really GREAT points about the issue. You’ll be more knowledgeable in a meaningful way if you invest the minutes to watch it. https://youtu.be/0rR9IaXH1M0?si=5rIwZeWLlspbCHx9 https://youtu.be/a9UFyNy-rw4?si=VBaxsHmUQw58K-1m Definitely NSFW!!!!

If you like Jessica Chastain I cannot recommend’Zero Dark Thirty’ highly enough to you, Dearest Jax. I’ve never seen this movie before but what stands out is that, essentially, you’ve got Miss Sloane as a sort of archetype - she’s the world’s greatest lobbiest. To me, she’s that not because she’s a woman (or a man) but because she’s a sociopath and a ruthless one at that. She is a person who exists to accomplish goals and that is the only criteria upon which to judge her. Precious Jax, we’ve been discussing some philosophy and ethics recently, this is pure Niccolo Machiavelli. He wrote a how-to guide for gaining and holding political power called ‘The Prince.’ You can comfortably simplify some of Machiavelli’s tenets for gathering and keeping power as “choose a worthy overall goal then do whatever it takes to achieve it.” Imagine, especially as a woman, setting up a scenario where you were going to have to swear to the world you paid for ‘services.’ It seems to me that, even in 2023/24, this charge attached to a female public figure would carry even more risk to Jessica’s character than some male Senator with some female escort, but I’m willing to be corrected or listen to another perspective. The way the story worked, given that it was all a setup, it shows Miss Sloane’s utter ruthlessness to introduce that potential reputational destruction to even go down that road, even though it seems she was in complete control throughout. I think it was an interesting choice to give Jessica’s character no family, no kids, no boyfriend or husband because her actions would have actually hurt them, if they had existed. I think the movie does a great job of highlighting the decisions that go into holding down a spot like that; whether male or female you have to be willing to give up just about everything to achieve those positions - a social/family life, your ethics. I thought the unspecified drug addiction was a bit hokey. Anyone in pursuit of one of those type of jobs wouldn’t just need to be awake but also lucid, you saw how subtle and convoluted some of those plots were, if you’re mainlining uppers you’ll be up but your brain will be garbage.

Jax, I've never seen this film, but I too love Jessica Chastain, so I look forward to enjoying something new with you! ☺️
