Lineal Update #6: 6lineal 6furious

Good evening!

I hope everyone is doing well, or as well as you can be for late on a Sunday night, right before the dread of the approaching Monday morning settles into the pit of your stomach. Fuck.

Anyway! Lineal shenanigans abound this week! I've made a whole heap of progress. Starting with some re-writes of the mid portion of the video. I realized that I had brought Fedor into the story around halfway through, but only given him an actual real, "Fedor Emelianenko was born in in Stary Oskol. and his hobbies were accordion playing and violence, etc etc" kind of proper introduction much later. When I sat back and watched the first hour of the video uninterrupted, it was kinda jarring. Like why are you introducing this dude we talked about 20 minutes ago now? So i basically re-wrote it to give him an intro a bit earlier on, which made discussion of him from there on out flow a lot better.

I also got the story a bit twisted, because Nog, Fedor and Cro cop were all vying for the Pride HW title, and I spent so long discussing the actual title it made the story lose sight of the lineal title, so that needed some re-writing too. But the whole thing flows a lot better now, and overall, I'm a lot happier with how its sounding now.

There's 1 hour 25 minutes of work done. Cro Cop's story is done, Noguiera's story is done, and Fedor has had his beginnings, and the capturing of the lineal title (and the unifying of the pride HW and interim titles). So a lot of ground covered this week!

One thing I'm a bit worried about is re-treading old ground. I already did a segment about Fedor in Pride Part 3, so It's hard to write about the same person, and the same situations twice, without feeling like you're ripping yourself off. Though I did throw in a few nods to the Pride videos, like i used the same music when talking about Fedor as I did in Pride 3, but that's less ripping myself off and just wanting to throw in an easter egg or two for people who've seen the Pride series. As Lineal 3 really and truly is like a Never Die spin off at this point.

I genuinely can't wait to get this one out the door now. The segments I've done for Noguiera v Sapp, Noguiera v Cro Cop, and Fedor v Noguiera are genuinely some of my favourite things I've done, ever. And again I have to give a shout out to LCQP for the music, as I basically text him this weekend like "yooo you know that piece you wrote thats like DUN DUN DUN, how about if it went DUN DUN BAM TISH" and he was like I got you fam even though its doubtful that he did get me as I wasn't making any sense and he still managed to make a piece of music that blew my god damn mind and fit the Fedor v Nog scene perfectly. Like I want to just upload that segment right now because I love it so much.

All this is to say, that I think this will be done and ready maybe next week. I may have to hold back some Fedor stuff for the inevitable part 4 at this point though, as there's just too much to his career to cram it all into the end of this video without it taking another 4 weeks. I really overspent the time budget on Cro Cop, but fuck it, it is what it is. Just means more to talk about in Part 4.

Anyway! Quick thoughts on UFC 307:

The UFC is using Periera like a fucking limit break. Whenever a card is in danger of being complete trash, they just activate Periera to save it. If he hadn't been in the main event i think 307 might actually have been the worst card of the year.

I've been a fan of Khalil since he was on TUF, so seeing him get a standing ovation for his performance, and seeing his stock go through the roof even after a loss was magic. Great performance from both he and Alex. But god damn I almost got sick in my mouth seeing that streak of blood booger come out of Khalil's nose in the post fight interview 🤢

Everything else on the card was, eh, not great. Harrison seemed to struggle a bit with Viera, that dude who beat Aldo should get cut for that performance, and I'm sorry, you all know I have no problem with watching women's MMA but god i just couldn't force myself to sit through another Raquel Pennington fight, so I skipped to the end of that. Maybe it was a barnburner, but I guess I'll just remain content to never know.
