TL;DR: I tend to get carried away and write a lot lol. Basically the blueprints for all 10 levels are finished. We have work mostly done for the first level, started working on level 4, and the rest are untouched as of right now. The levels will probably end up looking different than the initial blueprints.
We finished creating the blueprints for all of the levels in the game. At the moment we're planning on having 10 different levels, each with their own theme. The pictures here aren't what the final levels are going to look like, it's just meant to give a general idea. The first level was originally meant to be like a training camp set in a forest. The level was designed to be very easy, and help players learn how to play the game. There are sections where each of the mechanics of the player would be tested, like jumping, diving, wall jumping, etc.
However, Rodrigo, Nogam, and myself all got on a call at one point and started planning out how we were going to design the level. Somewhere along the line, the forest training camp idea was dropped, and we turned it into a hot springs resort at the top of a giant tree. We replaced the center of the level with the big tree, and had the hot springs located inside the tree. Along the outside it mostly just bridges, giant branches from the tree, and some rocks attached to the tree. The level is mostly finished; the 3d models and animations are all done, but I think we still need to work a bit on the lighting, particles effects, and the background of the level. The skybox and the background look pretty boring right now. We also need to work on optimizing the level. Right now standing at one corner of the level and looking towards the opposite corner several lowers the frame rate lol. I need to start looking into occlusion culling and other ways to optimize the scene.
We also started to work a bit on level 4. Right now we're not that far along, we basically just started to work on it. So far there's a beach on the upper section, and we're planning on having the top part of the level be like a theme park on the beach. We had the idea to base the theme park around jellyfish, so we're working on adding things like jellyfish shaped balloons, a guy wearing a jellyfish mascot costume, and other things like that.
The other levels we haven't started making the actual designs for yet. I don't really want to say what they are supposed to be yet because they might end up changing like we did with the first level.
But generally all the levels are the same. Players will race 3 laps on each of the tracks and try to be the first to finish. The only exceptions to this rule is the third and the tenth level. These two levels are just one long race to the finish instead of racing laps.
