Spectre's Chronicles: Chapter #26

The power to alter the predestined reality -- the power to alter the canon events. That's what Lucas holds. He was an anomaly -- a singularity of the highest order.

Lucas, ever since he transmigrated into the world of Marvel, the only thought that was on his mind was how can he change things for the better. Never in his self did he think that, instead of changing things for the better, he changed things for the worse.

[As we can see here right now folks, the consequences of the Lizard Tragedy that have befallen New York can't be described by words, for it could only be described by these mourners' tears. A total of 169 death tolls have been estimated and most of these families are here to grieve for them, including one of the most outstanding police of NYPD that was supposed to be the soon-to-be-captain of Brooklyn -- Officer Jefferson Davis.]

As Lucas delved deeper into the truth, despair began to consume him.

He clenched his teeth and bit his lip, drawing blood. His fist clenched so tightly that his nails dug deep into his palm, causing fresh blood to flow. The pain mirrored the turmoil within him.

One day have passed since Lucas and Spider-Man 'saved' the entirety of New York from being mutated into a lizard and during these days, Lucas saw the result of the Lizard's rampage into New York.

On the day of the school attack, what he had forgotten was that he was unable to meet with his parents, which caused them to become worried sick.

In an effort to avoid raising any suspicion, Lucas made the decision to return to his hospital room and pretend to be hospitalized once again.

If his parents asked where he had been, he would simply explain that he was hospitalized during the Lizard attack at his school. And if they questioned why the authorities hadn't notified them, his parents would would only attribute it to the authorities' incompetence.

......

"I... I shouldn't have meddled... right?" I muttered to myself whule looking blankly at the white ceiling. Various thoughts wrestled on my mind but most of them were only focused into one realization.

'I caused their deaths... I killed them.'

My stomach churned with unease, and a wave of nausea swept over me. In a desperate attempt to find relief, I hurried to the bathroom and emptied the contents of my stomach.

Gasping for breath, I leaned against the sink, my heart pounding in my chest.

I stared into my own eyes, the weight of my actions bearing down on me. A deep sense of regret and remorse settled within me, and I could feel the heaviness in my chest.

"Fuck," I whispered, my voice barely audible. In that moment, I closed my eyes, surrendering to the silence that engulfed me.

......

A month had passed since the Lizard Tragedy and the chaos it brought to New York City.

Midtown High School remained closed for renovations, and the students were serving a month-long suspension due to the extent of the damages caused.

During this time, the Iron Man event also took place, its events unchanged. It descended upon the city like a flash of lightning, leaving the public astounded and bewildered. People found themselves questioning the very fabric of reality, unsure of what was genuine and what was an illusion.

"What even is real?" they wondered.

But one thing they knew is that the world was changing, and it was changing faster than they could hope for. They weren't even getting used to having a black president yet, and now they had to deal with mutated humanoid lizards and flying robots. But, it is what it is.

During this time, Lucas remained quiet and spectated the happenings of his surroundings. He didn't interfere with Tony's fight but watched it from afar as a spectator.

Instead of a hopeful and excited look in his eyes, he observed the events unfold with a blank expression, ensuring that everything happened the way they were meant to be.

And everything went well. Tony survived, and Obadiah died.

During these days, Lucas became detached from his social life. He avoided others as much as he could, including his close friends, especially Gwen Stacy.

The reality of his existence hit him like a truck. His life wasn't just some fanfic he read from the past. Everything would not go exactly as he wanted it to be. There would always be consequences, consequences that he couldn't control. Why? Because fate willed it so, at least that's what he thought.

Lucas was currently inside his darkened room, his gaze directed at his window, watching the grey sky through his window pane.

"Sweetie, are you okay? You can talk to me, you know that, right?" she spoke in a calm voice, her presence bringing a sense of comfort.

His mother's voice, filled with concern and care, broke through the silence, and he turned his attention to the door.

Selena stood there, her warm smile reaching her eyes, and she gently leaned by his room's doorstep and stood there while looking Lucas with a concerned gaze.

"... I'm fine, Ma..." Lucas answered with a forced smile.

"I guess our son is going through an emo phase, hon. Don't worry; it'll pass eventually." A voice interrupted as Lucas looked behind his mother and found his father standing there, observing him with a mocking grin.

Lucas chuckled at his father's teasing remarks as he replied, "Yeah, mom. It's just an emo phase. Anyways, what's brings you guys to my humble abode? Need something, mom?"

"It's..." His mother whispered as she stopped to stare at his husband's eyes. Noticing her look, Mark nodded solemnly.

With resolve in her eyes, Selena looked at his son as she uttered, "Me and your father have something very important to say to you..." while fidgeting her fingers nervously.

Noticing the weirdness of the two, Lucas said unsurely, "Are you pregnant again or something, mom?"

"WHATT!? No, no, n--ouch!" His father denied profusely while having his hand only to be stopped by Selena's stump on his foot.

"It's not that, sweetie. It's... we found out about your—" Selena's voice faltered as an alarm blared and a red light flashed on Lucas' desktop. Lucas interrupted her, "Wait just a minute, Mom."

He focused his attention on the computer screen, where a message read, "[DNA Analysis Complete...]"

"Show me the data," Lucas requested, and the screen displayed a series of text that left him stunned.

"What... is this?"

"Son, can you please listen to us for a moment? We have something important to tell you," Selena implored, but Lucas couldn't take his eyes off the revelation on the screen.

"Mutant."

The word hung in the air, and Lucas turned to look at his mother in disbelief.

"You're a mutant, Mom?" he asked, trying to comprehend the truth.

With his question, a look of horror flashed on Selena's eyes, but, before it could escalate, Lucas intervened.

"Mom, mom, calm down. It's okay, I've somewhat expected this..." Lucas said reassuringly, trying to ease his mother's worries with a smile.

"You expected this, son?" Mark questioned, stepping forward and placing a gentle hand on Lucas' shoulder.

"Yeah, Dad. Why do you think I analyzed your DNA? There were only two possible results, either you two are mutants or not. It's a 50/50 chance, y'know?" Lucas replied, pointing out the obvious.

Mark looked at his son with genuine interest. "Then, what do you think about mutants, son?" he inquired.

"I think... I think they're a misunderstood bunch. But... they are humans," Lucas responded thoughtfully.

"What about the mutant terrorists that are on T—"

"As I said, Dad. They are humans, and humans are capable of doing good and evil. I think it's a matter of perspective."

Hearing their son's perspective, Selena and Mark exchanged a knowing look and nodded at each other, holding hands in agreement.

Mark guided his son to sit on his bed and as the three of them sat, Lucas looked at them with a look of confusion.

"Your mother is indeed a mutant, son. But its not just her."

'Right, I didn't saw his result...' Lucas thought in realization as he waited for his father's sentence.

"Your sister is also a mutant."

"What?! Wait!" Lucas exclaimed as he rushed to his desktop. He checked his sister's test results, and behold, she was indeed a mutant.

'But the sample I had of her was from before she left, so the result of her test showed that she had a dormant X-gene. My mom is a mutant, my sister is a mutant... what about my father...?' Lucas pondered.

As he clicked the mouse button, he found his father's results. They showed...

Normal. A completely healthy male species.

'Wait... If sis is a mutant, then the school she's currently attending is... Please don't let it be there.' Lucas thought, closing his eyes.

Gathering his resolve, Lucas turned back to his parents and questioned, "Where's sis?"
