BAND-MAID - I Can't Live Without You (score analysis & live from World Domination Tour)

I'm absolutely stunned that this is the first track to the World Domination album!

I have been waiting so long to get to this album and man...I was not disappointed in their delivery. I know that every Maid shines everytime, but DAMN! Saiki was absolutely tearing it down with her golden pipes. Do you HEAR that clear belt style singing? She doesn't even seem like she's straining!

What a freakin' song!

Only ever non-Japan live of ICLWY. I am up near the exit sign in the balcony. https://youtu.be/Y2gO1HeLKfU?si=sAlUR6Gm8oXAiWiA

Ya know…this is a great idea! And I feel silly that I didn’t think to do this. I know that’s a possibility. Lol. Thank you for this helpful tip and reminder. 😅

For your score jumping you might want to consider opening your PDF in several browser tabs (most browsers can natively display PDFs) and position each tab at your next jump point. When it comes time to jump, simply click on the next tab. It might reduce your stress of rushing to find stuff considerably.

I’m way ahead, but really looking forward to what you dig up on Band Maids cover of MUCC's ハ二ー (Honey or Ha-ni-i) on the last track!

It's still exactly what you're saying. Miku confirmed this in the latest interview published by Front Raw Live Ent. In the latest making-of of What is Justice, Kanami is teaching Miku some lines DURING THE VIDEO RECORDING. Crazy. What I find really interesting is that Kanami is probably the musician who knows Zemaitis guitars the most deeply, without owning one and without it being her brand.

The screen was down for 2 or 3 songs. I know for sure it was down for Dragon Cries and I Can't Live Without You, not 100% on the song before. Cause Miku's magic spell time was next. Also pretty sure ICLWY is one of Saiki's favorites to sing, not sure she's ever said it but EVERY time I've heard it done live she just goes all in.

When it comes to sound setup, don’t forget Misa’s background pre-bassist. I bet that has something to do with it. Haha! She speaks their language and has that innovative mind!

Not sure if it's still the case with the newest albums, but I have read multiple times that Kanami used to play Miku's guitar parts on their albums (with Miku's guitar) and after that taught Miku how to play those lines live when there was more time to do so. Miku absolutely improved a LOT over the years, but my guess is Kanami still did so on this album. Not sure about Unseen World though or newer albums. And while that might not be true, it was mentioned by Kanami that she wrote the "Don't be long" instrumental on the "Different" single to teach Miku specific things on the guitar which I believe helped her learning "Different" (it might have been an other track). I honestly wouldn't be surprised that they still did that on the Unseen World album with how much more crazy that album was in terms of speed and because Miku gets more lines nowadays for her to perform live (which she obviously does). This is absolutely not to say anything bad about Miku, she improved from having a guitar ornament on stage on her neck which she strummed on a couple of times in that show (I am not kidding, you can see this in one of the early sit down shows they did, probably FES 2014) to being a very capable rhythm guitar player who can sing while playing some pretty fast lines (and you can see she can play it on the O-mei-syu Sama/Band-Maid Prime footage). But I don't think she really played much guitar on this album.

In the audio commentary of the concert Saiki talks about how she flat out forgot to sing that line. If you do go to Japan I would suggest targeting one of their bigger shows, like their tour final on December 7th at the Tokyo Garden Theater with a capacity of 8,000. since they go all out on staging and easier to get tickets. All 14 of their first round and second round shows for this year's tour were all sold out. I got to see them in San Francisco in 2022 and Sacramento in 2023 and now going to see them at the Tokyo Garden concert.

This album was the introduction of Band-Maid to the world. When "Dice", the last song is this album, explodes in the internet we were all stunned with the poweful rock of this ladies. A rock that the west forgot and then we all start to discover that in Japan never died and even continues to flourish. "World Domination" is my second favorite album after "Just bring it".

I'm not sure NittPicc, but I think you're right. I think Saiki took a very short break there, LOL! Maybe she needed an extra breath or just forgot her next lines. I have heard that David Lee Roth would occasionally forget his lyrics, I think it happens to singers from time to time. No worries. They're human.

Yes there was a screen down for several songs, it took me a while to realise it too even though I could clearly see the images in front of them, just didn't click at first.
