King's X - Over My Head

I have always liked religious music and rock music to be seperate.

As a former Catholic, I was used to liturgical style music during mass and I wanted to keep it that way. To be fair, I am a fan of gregorian chant style music and didn't want it mixing in the music I was playing in church.

Anyway, the dissonance is strong with Ty and I love the cruchy feeling it gives me!

Weren't there 2 forms of Gregorian chant? I seem to remember hearing/reading that the earliest form/style was limited to 1 (or 2) notes. Every verse, every word the same note. Then later adopted polyphonic singing. Memory gets fuzzy as you get old.

This was an interesting meld of genres... the guitar leads were really melodic, like you said, and a little bit shreddy like a lot of 80s metal, but the rhythm parts were a bit grungy in tone, and with the bass and drums, kind of funky. ..which really lent to his soulful voice/vocals. Reminded me a little of Sly Stone, especially with the high pitch screams/howls. In a way parallels what Hendrix did...playing psychedelic rock, but always infused with Blues...and Jimi sang like a Blues singer, sounded a lot like Muddy Waters in his vocal style. ..and that breakdown in the middle was definitely Gospel inspired.
