Halloween Q&A and a quick poll

Hi Internet People, it's Belle. I want to do a just general fun/Halloween themed Q&A, so drop your questions below. Anything fun and lighthearted, or especially anything Halloween related. I might be filming this tonight.

Also do y'all want to see Dana's scary story episode early or wait until Halloween?

P.S. Beau is doing well and did not hurt himself decorating for Halloween, although he didn't put the werewolf up this year.

Comments

Thanks Belle, for bringing us clarity to our concerns.

Nila Repard

Another great idea. Thanks!

Ainsley Thrailkill

Great idea. Thanks!

Ainsley Thrailkill

Wow! Y'all go above and beyond with putting together party packs! We do little gift bags for the kids at the Christmas Caroling Party that we do every year but that's half a dozen kids, not the whole neighborhood. Very cool of y'all!

Ainsley Thrailkill

I wish I could think of a fun question, but my brain is fogged with concern for the election. Early voting began on 10/17 in my county. My husband and I were among the first 50 to vote in our location. Q: Will early votes be tabulated early so that the numbers will be available by 11/6? P.S. We LOVE Beau. He opened our eyes to many things and facilitated our understanding ienumerable times. However; Belle, you have been blessed with an incredible talent for delivering a message. Long may you reign!

MJRuth

What do you think will be the new hot halloween costume of 2024?

Sean

Hahaha I totally remember that incident from last year which I think was the referenced werewolf 🤣

Angie

What halloween stories will you tell in periods when actual scary stuff happens in real life? like during the pandemic.

Prang

More about Halloween costumes but it's a moving video and even made me tear up. DQ does Marilyn makeup with a beautiful tribute to her and honored women so much. I hope people enjoy it

sue idge

As a teenager, I dressed as a headless man. My sister dressed as the man's bride.

Mary Perez Moreno

Thank you so much Belle. You and your team are doing a wonderful job keeping all of us informed. Glad to hear Beau is doing well. Kinda disappointed about the werewolf though.

Jo Swan

For some reason the mental image of Beau's voice coming out from under a Peanuts-style white ghost costume has me grinning at the moment 😅😅

Jen Gosnell

I have a friend that does barrel racing and they do costume competitions for the horses, have you ever done that?

Jadedragon

I still think Beau stepped away because he has become a werewolf. 😜 Silly question. How do you think polls would reflect the chance if a vampire ran for elected office?

Dan

A group of questions around a theme Largest, silliest, smallest, and most loved Halloween decorations you have ever had?

Cassandra Phillips

I say let’s have fun with Halloween before the election! Anyone dressing up as Trump with a cat or dog???🐶 🐈

sandra jones

Do you and your kids make your own costumes? Do you trick or treat or is it too remote? It's the first year my granddaughters and I pored through a bag of hand-me-downs -- one is going as a French beatnik (thanks to a too-small wool beret I had) and the other will wear a brass crown, a dress cut into a skirt and a capelet as Nature/Earth. They have a parade after the last school day in town. So much more fun than buying costumes!

Meg Feeley

What is (or was) your favorite trick or treat candy to give and to get?

Stefan Kwiatkowski

Which X-Files episode did you find the spookiest? I'm showing the series to my wife who's never seen it before; can't wait to get to the haunted house episode where the woman asks if Mulder wants to see her hole  (she says it seductively but she has a canon ball wound through the torso)

Dennis Stout

Could Beau be a guest on your show? Remember when you came and were interviewed? That would be fun. He could wear his Halloween costume. How about a werewolf?

Mary Whalen

Hi Belle. :-) Sorry, can't think of any spooooky questions, but how's Beau been? What's he up to lately? With all due respect for his privacy, of course.

0mn1vore

Thank you for all your hard work Ms Belle and team!

Bel-Ami Margoles

Do you have a Halloween film that you must watch each year? If so, what is it?

Lauren Wagstaff

I'd love to have a "ghost" appearance from Beau! Thanks for all you do, Bellle! Really love your content, too!

Deb W

Do you ever do Halloween costumes with the horses? If so, what?

Leslie Shank

Favorite costume you or your family ever wore?

Dave Grant

It's my understanding that most satanists don't actually believe in a literal satan or anything supernatural including angels or gods. They more so use satan as a symbol in the fight against tyranny. I've never met a satanist or a pagan who has believed in an actual devil. Seems like a predominantly Christian concept to me. The history of world religions and the evolution of ideas is fascinating. Especially that throughout history ideas have been borrowed and adapted to modern story telling. Like for instance, i think it was dionysius who was the original myth that turned water into wine, then adapted to the biblical story... there are many similarities but that one always stuck out to me. And, the practicality that people are more likely to follow your new religion if it lies in their comfort zone or already coincides with their routine holidays. Historical and cultural anthropology... fascinating stuff

Jezebathena Curie

If you were putting together a weekend long spooky movie marathon which movies would you include? Any classic movies on that list??

Meg the Sparkly Unicorn

Can we have some sort of amusing comparison between people who claim "witch hunts" & historical witch hunts. E.g. any parallels between today and back then - public figures, politics, etc. Other idea: who could take a crack at threading together all of the space laser, eating pets, controlling hurricanes, secret blood thirsty ceremonies... all into one crazy scary story?... 😆 🤣 😂

JamieAnn Kaskowitz

What are your favorite candies? Did you ever have something funny happen with a costume?

Helen Plattner

BOO! I mean, Hi! (Did I scare you?) Has anyone ever dressed up as Beau for Halloween? Do you think costumes should be scary or creepy or is "sexy nurse" an acceptable halloween costume? Also what category would 'Sexy JD Vance' fall into? (Now I KNOW I scared you!) What's better? Fast zombies or slow zombies? What era or style of scary movie do you like best? Old classics like Frankenstein/Dracula etc, Cheesy things from the 70's-80's, Comedy horror like Slaxx or new ones like Get Out, It Follows, Boogeyman etc? Here are a few of my faves just in case you missed any of these. Pontypool, The Cube, The Platform, Coherence, X, Talk to Me, The Descent, The Cabin in the Woods, Texas Chainsaw 2, Evil Dead, oh... too many. Happy Halloween and much love to you and Beau and your whole clan. xoxoxoxo

Jason Hadley

Monsters, slashers, or haunted houses? I am a monster movie kinda guy.

Michael Knowles

Have you ever seen a ghost? or had moment when you were convinced someplace was haunted AF and just walked away? Basically, I want to hear any real life ghost stories you have to tell! Also, do you have any spooky urban legend stories to share? I remember as a kid I was so freaked out by the Bloody Mary story that I couldn't sleep in a room unless the mirrors were covered! I'm a grown ass adult and full of logical thoughts... but you would have to pay me life-changing amounts of money to stand in front of a mirror and say "Bloody Mary" 3 times 🤣👻😱🐔

Cynthia

There is a difference between living in a Christian society vs a Christian nation. There is no doubt that the predominant cultural religion in the US is Christianity. There is also no doubt that we have many minority religions that should have equal rights. Freedom to practice your religion and especially freedom FROM religion. As someone previously stated, the federal holiday didn't occur until 1870 and the refences in the pledge and on currency didn't occur until the 1950s. So, I don't believe it's fair to state that our founding fathers created a Christian nation, as way too many Christians have claimed. Culturally, secular people celebrate Christmas and Halloween too with santa and trick or treating. Religion, politics, culture and ethnicity always over lap, but, I prefer a clear delineation between church and state. On a different, oddly related note, I've heard Christians complain that Christmas is a pagan holiday. I also would prefer more either federal holidays or personal religious floating holidays to use at your preference. I follow TST's work and I do see the push back and intolerance of minority religions by the predominant religion. I agree that we either keep clear separations or we include all religions. But, I'm guessing you would agree when I push back on living in a Christian Nation. No thanks!

Jezebathena Curie

Are there any ghost stories from your local area? Ones that you tell around a campfire.

Joanne Bollhofer-White

Oh - and do you believe a house can have spirits?

Flo

I know someone who posits that Halloween is much more an adult holiday than a kid one. What do you think?

Flo

Hi to Belle and Beau. I'd like to know the best prank you pulled or got 'inflicted' on each of you. (Just don't scare the horses ;-) )

Pauline D

I love scary surprises and it'd be coolest to have it at the release! Glad Beau didn't hurt himself. Lol. I'd love to know what is the favorite candy, too!!

Autogyro

Hi Belle - thanks for taking over the show to keep things running! I love what you are doing with it. At the same time, I also miss Beau. I, too, would love to hear what your and Beau's favorite Halloween costumes were (that you wore). And do you have any tales of epic costume fails or last minute emergencies for you, Beau, or the kids? Hugs to you and the team!

Susanne Hoeppner

Alright questions, what are you most looking forward to post election to focus on as election coverage should die down. Assuming the whole country doesn't light up in flames as some people take to the streets to claim the other side should've lost. Ignoring that nightmare, what do you guys wanna focus on most? Second more personal question. With climate change, the property crisis and the insurance crisis how are you looking at the impact of climate change on your family directly? I still deal with a great deal of anger towards our general inaptitude but are you planning at all that Florida might be a less and less desirable location in the future?

Jobbe Smit

Do you have any surprising or facepalm stories from Halloween? Like when Beau was surprised one of the kids knew about lunch counters, until he realized why.

Katie Ingrid Falcon

Favorite scary movie Favorite candy Best costume you have worn Do you have any traditions your family have for Halloween?

Happy Hippie

I am wondering since you are living in a rural area are you usually trick or treating driving to homes in the area, driving to a more populated neighborhood, parking nearby, then walking through the neighborhood trick or treating, or going to a centrally located trunk or treat ? When I was young we were living in a trailer park that was in a rural area, so we would have people coming to the trailer park to be having easy pickings. We needed to be giving out a lot more candy than just for people living in the trailer park, but we did have fun seeing many more costumes. There was also another trailer park in the area that we did go to and they did go to ours. The other trailer park was considered a wealthier trailer park so it was favored over ours to be trick or treating in. Anyway, sorry this is so very long. Thank You, Belle, Beau and The Crew, for Greatly Easing Tensions All over Our Planet ❣️ Happy Halloween 🎃💀👻🦇🕷️🕸️ Many Hugs, Take Care, Stay Safe And Healthy to Everyone, Everywhere, Always ❣️🐱🖖✌️☮️🌈

Sandra Blomberg

The "In God We Trust" may have similar origins.

Alan Berman

My understanding was that the reference to God in the Pledge of Allegiance was put there in the 50s during the peak of Red Scare McCarthyism to show how non-commie we were.

Alan Berman

@Kari whoa! that's brilliant. Next year I'm definitely doing that. (Already stocked up on candy for this year. oops!)

Alan Berman

Hi Beau! Belle is doing a great job - but you are still missed!

Lynlee

what are your top 5 monsters

Ken Edwards

What's your favorite costume you've ever had (Halloween or otherwise)? Chocolate candy or fruity candy? Twizzlers or Red Vines? Do the horses get to wear costumes? Favorite spooky movie?

Alan Berman

Jez, thank you for illustrating my point. Even as an atheist you are still very much living in a Christian society. You brought it up with parts of your comment about Halloween not being a federal holiday, that most people don't celebrate it for religious reasons, local governments treating it as secular. No one takes non-Abrahamic religions seriously. Even our money shouts it. It doesn't personally affect me because I have the luxury of being able to take off time to celebrate my holidays. I guess my point is really that if we truly were a secular nation, one of two things would be true. Either all religious holidays would be federal or non of them. Our money would not reference the Abrahamic God. The pledge would not make the reference. The default in court would not be the bible for swearing. I feel that if the tables were turned the government(s) would never be okay with it.

Knarr

DID Beau or did he NOT turn into a werewolf after his so called 'injury' last halloween? LOL !

James Magruder

Candy Corn- yes or no. :)

Daniel Souza

Hi Belle, I would like to know if you were in charge of a Halloween show marathon that reflects todays politics, what would you pick. Perhaps Rosemarys Baby? Or Twilight Zone “it’s a wonderful life” from 1961? Ongoing thanks for all your insights.

Riverrat

Candy Corn. I like to break the white tips off and stick them on my incisors as "fangs". 🐺

Wulff Harris

I blame nightmare before Christmas!

t.ferree

What was the best candy you ever got Trick or Treating as a kid or adult?

Brian Woodring

In the Philippines they celebrate Halloween and Christmas at the same time! The Mall decorations are hilarious!

Terry Burgess

What are your favorite Universal monsters and XFiles monster of the week?

Strong Betty White of the Waves

When I was doing my usual Halloween seasonal shopping (it's my family's favorite holiday), I noticed some additions: "spooky" gingerbread houses, "spooky" easter eggs, etc. It's not new of course, but this year it's definitely felt more on the nose. Besides the more-obvious "money" aspect, do you have any thoughts about what might be part of this trend of blending holiday practices? It's something I've been mulling over since I started noticing it.

Wingding

Whatever works best for you.

Gary Droege

Love to hear Beau is doing well and didn’t hurt himself decorating! Thanks for all you do!

Moni Tei

Play-Doh isn't food? :D

Erin Halfelven at BigCloset

In my community, Halloween is a vexed holiday. There are a lot of evangelical churches around that regard the holiday as a “satanic” celebration and a lot of folks who won’t answer the door. How did we get here?

Debra DiPiazza

Thanks ya’ll. - Port Lavaca TX

V V

I have no opinion; whenever you drop it, I'll listen. As a Pagan I find the knowledge and opinions of non-pagans really interesting.

Kier Salmon

We do the same, but try to give out candy that nobody else is giving out (e.g. Mike and Ike, Lemonheads, etc. rather than the standard Snickers and Hershey bars) that went over very well. For a non-food option we gave out Hot Wheels and dinosaur toys that the kids went wild for. My partner made Halloween-themed sticker packs that everybody got in addition to the candy/toy that were well-recieved. It seems like kids just really liked having something novel.

Jeremy Altheide

I would like to explore the origins of Halloween. I have heard that Christmas and Easter were once pagan holidays, coinciding with the equinox and season changing. Is there anything like this going on with Halloween? And is Halloween actually a religious celebration: If you believe in satan, surely you believe in angels, gods, etc. My birthday is Halloween, so I ponder this a lot!

Suzy Marie Hendrix

Glow sticks!

Kari Charles

We gave out the Pokemon "Trick or Trade" packs last year, offering them a choice between those and candy. Some of the kids were very excited to get those.

Barry Drake

We’ve given out Halloween-themed temporary tattoos that kids were excited about.

Holly Hoskinson

What is everyone's favorite guilty pleasure/candy/treat for Halloween?

Pamela Hineman (Lexy Wolfe)

On TikTok during the pandemic, I followed some creators who talked about life in the woods of Appalachia. Folk wisdom like theirs from around the country would be interesting, for ex: if you hear someone outside call your name at night, no you didn’t. Or how kids experienced loss of time in the outside world after going into abandoned homes and going upstairs. They thought they were only there a few minutes. I commented how in the middle of the lower peninsula in MI, there were some forests I felt comfortable hiking in and others we always avoided but didn’t know why. A Marine told me to trust that feeling and that there are some things too scary to talk about in those woods, even for him.

Eileen Serra

Can you please mention Krampus? This important folklore connects Halloween to the "holiday" season and is fun to learn about. Cheers!

EDWARD SADZEWICZ

What does your Halloween display include, apart from the werewolf? Do you do a fall display?

Donald Wert

🤭 I remember the werewolf incident.

Jaquenta Jackie

Urban legends seems like a great topic for an interstate episode.

Carisa Yardas

Silly questions: Favorite Aliens move? If you were a movie monster, which one would you be?

Charles DiVittorio

I've read that early on in the history of our "Christian" nation, celebration of Christmas was pretty much forbidden beyond gathering with friends and family. Anything more was seen as "popish". Some of these earlier settlers were a pretty dour lot. It wasn't even declared a federal holiday until 1870.

Donald Wert

Do your family pets (dogs or horses) ever wear Halloween costumes? If so, any favorite pet costumes?

Jamie Skime

Just to preface, I'm an atheist, so I don't want my views being seen as Christian based. Great question. Halloween isn't a federal holiday anyways. Most people who celebrate it don't do it for belief purposes, more of recreation. If I'm thinking about the role of the government, the must separate church and state regardless of pagan or Christian beliefs. Many public spaces just use Happy Holidays for Christmas. And, I see local governments celebrating Halloween as a secular, cultural activity regardless of its pagan roots. I'd love to know, from your perspective, how the local government's scheduling or cancellation affects your traditional pagan practices. Is it largely dependent on the door to door practice? I plead ignorance and I'd love to know more.

Jezebathena Curie

Do other communities have "horribles parades," with kids in costumes showing off their creativity?

Susan B Peckitt

At our house we give the kids a choice between candy and a non-food. Last year the kids were so excited about tiny Play-dohs that we hardly gave out any candy. Any suggestions for this year's non-food or should we just stick with Play-doh?

Ainsley Thrailkill

Speaking from a pagan perspective, it irritates me when Halloween/Samhain is officially celebrated in local areas on some convenient evening for two hours if it isn't reduced to trunk-r-treat lines in a parking lot. Do you feel our secular government(s) would ever allow the same thing to happen to Christmas if it was deemed it fall on an inconvenient Thursday or is it just that we are actually a Christian nation?

Knarr

What is the crew consensus of the best Halloween candy? Is there any agreement on this?

Cody Leslie

Maybe not as light hearted, but, I've been reflecting on enjoying Halloween as a child and the kids who didn't for religious reasons. Our supposedly secular public school has recently decided to cancel Halloween going forward. They cite many reasons, some of which are very understandable. One, is that the outside parade the kids do is now seen as a 'soft target'. Another is that kids don't wear appropriate footwear, bring in fake weapons, paint their faces too scarily. One is that the kids from religious families won't feel excluded. I can't say I have a super strong opinion, but I appreciate the nuance that creates a tough decision for administrators. I almost feel like the roles have switched and a part of me wants to conservatively deny the world is changing and cling to Halloween as a last vestige of the sane world. There is also a part of me that wonders if this is driven by the larger Christian Nationalist push to control public schools. Although I value inclusivity, I see Halloween as an inclusive activity for all who want to join. It's ok to not want to join in, but it's not ok to oppress an expression you don't agree with. We have a freedom to offend and they have a freedom to feel offended and we can still get on peacefully. I'd really love to know your thoughts or help me frame this in a way to help our family accept this in a way that make us feel good and less bitter.

Jezebathena Curie

Early Halloween is always a phyn treet :)

Milan - TITTO_4BLN You Tube Profile

Do you and Beau have the same favorite Halloween Movie, and what is it. Or if different, who is into the scarier movies.

William Stefens

When my two kids were younger Tracy and I would take the kids in the truck to the neighbors to trick or treat because they so spread out , and being from Wisconsin that just ment a long night of beers in the kitchens of all my neighbors the kids did like it and miss it . Did you guys do anything like that.

Trifton Dolbier

There's so much for us to fear with the outcome of the selection, that I am tired of adult fears. When I was a little kid I was afraid of monsters in My closet, the creature under the bed, and vampires outside my window. Had a magic blanket that kept me safe. Did you , Beau, or your kids have any childhood fears? What kept you safe?

Mary Altair

does your halloween display get bigger every year?

Lisa Marie Fuqua

Halloween lets us experience fear with laughter and fun. Many of us don't like feeling afraid and thus avoid difficult situations that may cause fear. How has Halloween and scary movies helped you deal with fear in general.

Sandra LeGette

With regards to spooky stories, what are your favorite spooky stories or urban legends from the US or worldwide?

David Messerli

Could you describe your Halloween agenda. What do ya'll do? We are rural and don't have trick or treaters, but do enjoy decorating the garden for Halloween.

Kelly Horton

What is the best decoration you've put up for Halloween? The best haunted attraction you've gone to?

Byll

Polls are wrong,( presently your poll is against my will lol), Lol. But you can describe how spooked people get over them!

Mark william lane

spooky scary love to all Belle & Beau peeps! 💙🐪

alumpyhorse

What was your and Beau's best (individual or couple) Halloween costumes that you made happen (at any age), and what costumes would you like to do, if you had the time, motivation, and occasion?

GrlfriendInAComa

Oh my... I'm saving that for the show. More than once.

Beau of The Fifth Column

What are the best costumes that you and Beau have each work?

Chronic_J

Since y’all live in a very rural area, I imagine there’s not much door to door trick or treating. Have you ever done a Trunk-or-Treat and if so, what theme(s) have you done? If you haven’t, what theme would you decorate with? Happy Early Halloween!

Eagle Rose

What is the scariest and funniest costumes you have worn? Have you guys ever coordinated your costumes to match?

Nicole Roberson

Thank you and the team for all of your hard work and providing us with facts. Too nad the "news" is mostly entertainment, so they can lie to us.

Nicole Roberson

Glad Beau didn't injure himself, but I'm pretty sad about the lack of a werewolf this year.

Lionel L.

Just how many times has Beau hurt himself decorating???🤣
