Tabs in Obsidian (new in v0.16)
Added 2022-09-12 14:53:23 +0000 UTCHere's what you can look forward to in the next release of Obsidian, v0.16. I've been testing it for a few weeks now, and particularly love the new tabs feature. However, this release DID initially break a few things for me, so I wanted to explain what it involves. In particular, you may be affected by this release if:
- you use a lot of keyboard shortcuts, including the ones for opening notes in new panes
- you use the Sliding Panes theme
- you use a theme whose developer hasn't yet updated to be compatible with v0.16
I suggest you revisit keyboard shortcuts and change them if needed (because the new release adds a few that you might already be using for something else) and update your themes or switch to a new one when the release comes out.

Really great to hear. I also paid for Catalyst mainly to support the devs. Since Obsidian is such a big part of my life, I thought it was onyl fair! :)

2022-09-13 22:31:34 +0000 UTCI ended up upgrading to catalyst and getting the new version now. I'd been meaning to anyway to show my appreciation. This was a big enough prompt. By eventually incorporating the most popular plugin features, they remind me of the way WordPress sometimes does similar things (though much, much more slowly).

2022-09-13 14:35:20 +0000 UTCI felt the same way about the Sliding Panes plugin! I liked it, but it wasn't quite right.. I much prefer the native implementation because I like being able to stack tabs for some panes only! The Obsidian team has a way of running with good ideas. Pretty impressive when you consider there are only three of them.

2022-09-13 10:13:40 +0000 UTCI had just started using a third party Tabs plugin, but it wasn't quite right. The current tab indicator is not in the same row as the other tabs, so it is disorienting switching between them. I'm looking forward to this core release. Thanks, Nicole, for another outstanding video.
