AMA | The Pi Video

Comments

Did you miss spending time in your memory palace, when the video was done?

Sarah teiltWissen

I'd love to hear the whole story that was in your mind too! It would definitely take longer than reciting the numbers but I think it would be interesting

Maat

Did you actually learn how to remember your life better? Most memories happen by themselves, but this seems like an extremely deliberate process of putting something in a retrievable place. Do you think the technique is good for actually putting the experience of important life events in a safe place for future remembering, or do you see it as just a way of storing away (for example) the words 'I went to a restaurant for my birthday that weekend'?

Sam Parsons

Also, actual question. How much of you remember the numbers during the recital was you visually picturing the thing, and how much was you remembering the sequence of numbers? Also, how did you picture things if you can't visualize stuff?! (As explained in the last patreon episode)

SpaceJay

Release the fanfic cut! Aka, tell use the weird people, actions, objects you used to help remember

SpaceJay

you mentioned a while ago that you still make lil notebooks for yourself after you learned how to from the bullet journalling video. do you think you'll continue to use the memory palace skills in the future? how often do y'all continue to use skills you've learned in videos after you finish filming?

Claire Lin

I was also wondering this! Like how would you apply it to studying for school?

Molly Hunold

Can you share your crazy fanfiction starring 3141 digits of pi? Im interested to see what associations you came up with

Julia

What a great video! You mentioned a few times that you have (or had) reaaally bad memory, but how bad was it really? I feel for instances that I'm bad at remembering particular names and numbers but I can grasps concepts and recall them really easily - is that a different kind of memory or just a dumb question? πŸ˜…

Wojtek

Hey guys, loved the framing of this video, the story is really compelling and I think everyone else agrees I had a question, so the main critique I've heard about memory palaces is that they are not useful for actually learning information, just like storing it in a drawer and being able to retrieve it but not actually taking it in. Point is, do you actually think this technique can be used for non trivial information?

Pablo Rodriguez

Call went out via YouTube short: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/QXyVYDREWGc ; I'm sure other methods were employed.

Dre

this was such a great video! I feel like the way it was filmed/shots were set up was a little different than most AIP videos, what was the thought process behind framing the video in a slightly different way than usual? (unless it's just me who thinks that and it's not actually true lol)

Ria Upreti

who were the people you invited to watch? they seemed so chill! also there were quite a few of them which was a nice surprise!

kelsey

Can you talk about whether being able to memorize random numbers actually helped your everyday life terrible memory?

Cleo

Can you walk us through some of your mind palace locations? And what some of the letter number combos (Danny in a hat doing karate etc...) are? It would be cool to see what it looks like in other ppl's brains :D

johanna

I feel like we need a follow up video in a year to see how much you remember.

Kevin Pham

Are the techniques only for recall? Have you used these techniques to learn to do something practical (like the algorithms to solve a Rubik's cube, I believe you said you forgot them)? And do you plan to combine your superpowers to solve a cube while blindfolded (like is shown by Nelson Dellis in his intro video)? ...and on a bus? ...while doing parkour? /snark

Dre

(not a question, but) Stand-up Number Recital sounds like something Matt Parker would attend πŸ€”

STUAAAAAAAAAART

Once you have the mind palace set up, are you able to edit/update parts of it or would that mess up your memory if you overwrite that part?

Judith

Can you explain the pi cowboy hat drawing? I can't figure out if the line going from the top of the pi symbol to the right is part of a face or just the back of the cowboy hat. Edit: it appears at the 20 minute mark

Michael Tardibuono

Did you discover any apps or techniques that worked better than others? And have you tried this with memorizing other information like facts? I think it would probably work well with dates. But if it’s just related to numbers, it’s not NOT useful, but it feels like it can be applied to more and I’m interested if you had any thoughts on how.

Lyndsey L. Werner

I clapped for you at the end of the video and look forward to the after show! πŸ’œ I actually read a book called Moonwalking with Einstein that went over competitive memorization and why and how we remember stuff but yours has reignited my interest. My people would honestly probably be all fictional characters since I remember them much better than celebrities.

Lyndsey L. Werner

Loved the video, also knew Mind Palaces only from Sherlock before. I was wondering why you chose to memorise something as not useful as pi though (except for the obvious nerd life goal). I guess encoding information other than numbers is way harder, right?

Malte Richert

great video! lame question: Sabrina, where did you get that tan striped button up shirt? its a great shirt
