Why Small Talk Sucks | Director's Commentary
Added 2021-07-15 15:00:07 +0000 UTCTalking about that small talk / talking to strangers video and how it continues to be the most personally significant video I've made as someone who constantly forgets about having social anxiety until it's too late. I also spend half the time ragging on the motion graphics in this one. Hope you enjoy!

In the context of Omegle (and other only chat rooms), it means "Male". It's usually a response to A/S/L (age, sex, location) but Omegle man decided to answer unprompted ๐คทโโ๏ธ - Sabrina

2021-08-08 00:41:19 +0000 UTCHm the "sarcastic" tone in that one call just came across to me as "I'm ReAlLy SuRpRiSeD aT tHe DiReCtIoN tHiS cOnVeRsAtIoN hAs TaKeN". Being overly self-critical and socially anxious probably go hand in hand, but it's good to remember that other people are human too. Same with the animation stuff. How would you talk about that if you were more confident? Because using clever reuse of old assets, cheap tricks to make it look like a lot is going on, and stuff that only makes sense if you don't think about it in order to save time is also a skill you could brag about. "I just reused the hands from the olive oil episode and none of you foolish mortals even noticed!"

2021-07-19 18:14:14 +0000 UTCSabrina, have you thought about toning down the self-deprecating humor/language? It's not good for you and your psyche to be constantly pointing out the flaws in everything you say and do, even if presented as humor. You're an incredible person who does incredible work and there are so many people who sincerely love and support you and what you're doing. You haven't tricked us into liking your work even though it might feel like that sometimes ๐ ๐

2021-07-17 03:23:10 +0000 UTCYou pointing out all these "lazy" animated bits is like a programmer pointing out all the bits they copied from StackOverflow, or another place in the code. While YES its copying, the work putting all of that together and getting it to do what it is supposed to is still 100% valid work. Insert "The Ship Repair man Story" here. (also, TIL patreon doesent let you surround something in GT or LT symbols. It just deletes it)

2021-07-17 01:49:17 +0000 UTCSeeing Sabrina sound super sarcastic on video calls reminded me of how I always have 3-4 blank notecards in my hand during video calls. I always look down at them before I say something stupid. It was a great video, learned a lot from it.

2021-07-15 23:31:22 +0000 UTCI love these directors commentaries. And I really don't get how people can see how much effort is put into the graphics, they still look great to me even after you explained it
