Hopefully this posts at the right time. Silver lining, it might stop me from obsessively checking if the files are attached sixteen times.

I figured that Vatreece's role in the story now is to be Rain's soul guide. Her other copies seem to have been destroyed along with the original, as we can see with Lavarro.

2023-10-16 17:10:54 +0000 UTCI wonder if Rain will be able to let Vatreece access the system again, perhaps by using himself as a proxy of sorts (or a RainVPN :D ) so the system doesn't try to erase her. If so, hopefully they'll be able to project Vatreece outside for at least a short amount of time. Or just let Vatreece project her skills outside Rain. That would be one hell of an ace up Rain's sleeve. Even if someone got a read on Rain's skills and came up with countermeasures, they wouldn't know about Vatreece. Anyway, that giant wall-size flat screen. I suspect it is so Vatreece can see and hear what Rain does. And I guess to watch all the shows Rain ever saw in his life. Another thought I had. What if the other copies of Vatreece out there didn't simply disappear when they expired, but remain as some sort of inert... "stuff". Perhaps they take a considerable amount of time to break down, so this Vatreece could absorb them if she gets close, becoming more "complete".

Also we've known for a while that oversoul is the start of the path that leads to true damage limit breaks. So anytime we've seen a limit break that person is using their soul to do it. With regard to Lavarro, given how obsessive she is regarding getting as much power as she can, there is basically no way she isn't an expert at soul manipulation as well. Incarns don't have gold level souls, that was why Rain was able to beat the water manipulator so easily. Rain turned it into a contest between their souls and the Incarn exploded. Note right afterwards Airwalk stopped working which is likely a sign of a limit break (similar to how skills don't work around the maelstrom).

2023-10-15 21:24:50 +0000 UTCI'm gonna be honest, Velika using her will to attack Rain's domain with hers and him saying that that's how goldplates fight feels like a retcon. We've seen several goldplates fight already and none of them seemed to weaponize their will to attack their opponent's paling. Halgrave doesn't do soul stuff, so he has an excuse, but Westbridge? He was one of the more powerful Citizens and Velika claimed that he could snuff her out easily. He was also very old and experienced. Yet he never used domain attacks against either Halgrave or Lavarro. Rain thinks that Velika could negate his offensive auras by simply flexing her soul, but Lavarro stomped Westbridge as a silverplate. Same with Citizens Bowcraig, Greenfield and Bluecrest fighting Lightbreaker and the Incarns. No mention of soul shenanigans. It feels jarring that the story went from 'my numbers are bigger than your numbers and the damage limit is absolute except for a handful of monsters' to 'the damage limit can be ignored because goldplates just attack each other with their souls instead'. Does the Vekuavak family just know more about the soul than all the other Citizens? That seems a bit hard to believe. It feels like SS is throwing away more and more of the litrpg aspects of the story and replacing them with cultivation stuff. Personally, I always thought the system was one of the best parts of the story and the damage limit presented an interesting conundrum for powerful awakened to overcome. Anyway, let me hear your thoughts on this. What do you guys think about this shift?

2023-10-15 20:14:56 +0000 UTCTechnically, they sent a hit squad after him and Ameliah first. The Bank was always going to clash with Ascension and now they fired the first shot. That being said, I'm not sure if Ascension is ready for this. Velika raised a good point, saying that the company needs stronger members and more goldplates. They need to find or create delvings to build up their forces.

So is it possible for someone to draw a higher ranked pattern for someone to use or are all patterns slightly different for each person like a fingerprint? I would think that such an exploit (teaching patterns) wouldn’t be allowed considering it is supposed to be a person’s own path to divinity.

There could be some resources there they need, but beyond gold and crystals, I'm not sure what a small branch is guaranteed to have.

Somehow as soon as she mentioned being hungry for essence, I knew Rain would have provided her some, I figured it would come from a tap, or more likely be stored as food in the fridge. More a combination of both I see. I do wonder how she can get a 'true mind' though, as it were.
