Take the A Train

Billy Strayhorn's composition "Take the 'A' Train" is one of the most classic jazz standards everyone should know. Recorded in 1941, this song quickly became the signature tune of The Duke Ellington Orchestra.

The original key of the song is C major and it has a straightforward AABA 32 bar form. This arrangement is done in the key of A major, but with using capo on the 3rd fret, it still sounds as it was done in C major. This was finalized with a short outro which has a nice arpeggiated motif, frequently used by Charles Mingus.

Merry Christmas and happy holidays!
