Kina Diaries: Holy Moly (Album Update)

HAI. Hello. Mind if I empty my brain in front of you? Seeing as you're my record label and all, I wanted to loop you in as we approach the final stretch of album production :) Go team!

The last couple weeks I've been in pure go mode (which has been exhilarating and emotional and utterly exhausting but in the best way), and there I shall remain until the album is complete! My goal is to turn in everything (all songs, artwork, etc) on June 1st to be sent off to the CD manufacturer. There is so much that I am so excited about, but it is all happening at the exact same time, and there is so much yet to be done, and what if my head explodes in the interim?!

(Side note: I've been cognizant as of late to up my meditation game to avoid said head explosion scenario. Don't you worry 'bout me... )

Here's the state of things:

- When Will I Learn, Beth, Souvenirs, In The Waiting, Lonesome, and Birdsong complete. (Duh.)

- For Now and History are nearing the end stages of production and mixing, but I could totally see myself bailing and going a totally different direction on History and oh gosh I really don't have time for that but I need it to be everything it was meant to be!!

- California just needs a little polishing. I've opted to let it be the one completely not-produced song on the album. For some reason it seems horribly wrong to make that song be anything other than raw and totally bare.

- I have this outro song idea that feels SO right to end the album on. Fingers crossed I can make time to work on this before I turn everything in.

- Album artwork exists roughly in my head but I need to lay it out and make it into real life. Keeping it simple and in the same vein as all the singles artwork.

- I thinkkkk I've settled on the name of the album! I'm great at naming rescue birds (edward! fox! clancy!) and spiders that live in my bathtub (peter!) and snakes (jeremy and hubert!), but naming albums?? It's just too much.

- I think I've got new merch for the album and tour figured out! You may have seen the designs on twitter/instagram--they are the products of my art day last weekend! :)

- Need to dream up a music video for History at some point.

- The North American tour is announced and Europe tour is being booked as we speak! Now moving on to logistics like getting a tour bus and looking for partners/sponsors to help cover some of the costs.

- OH and I almost forgot I need to shoot Friday's video. So glad we had this talk :D

So that's where I'm at! While I am certainly flustered and short-circuiting periodically, I am also overwhelmingly grateful I get to drive myself insane doing something I love so so much. This album means so much to me and the only reason I've gotten to make it is because of YOU. I can't thank you all enough for coming along on this journey with me and being my cheerleader and making it all possible. What a beautiful beautiful thing. <3

Alright, time for me to eat some dinner and sleep so I can be fresh for the studio tomorrow morning! Goodnight and I love you and thank you so much for making it this far into my maybe pointless ramblings! (I'm sorry if that's the case.)

xoxo

Kina

p.s. I'm pushing our May Coffee Date Hangout to early June to ensure I get the album done on time! Miss you all. Date and time TBD :)

p.p.s. Can we take a moment to welcome all the KG Records newbies?! Our family has recently exploded and it's kind of mind-blowing. Welcome and thank you and please tell us a little bit about yourself in the comments!

OMGOMGOMG I can't believe that the album is arrived to Hungary!!!!! :)

Kina, do you do the art artwork yourself? Or someone else? And as for the album name: you could do a poll on here and let us help you decide ;) And for the History music video: I'm sure the KG records family will have some ideas for that too!

i can't wait

Hi, everyone! My name's Jamae. So glad to have joined the KG Records fam. A little bit about me: Currently living in Portland, Oregon, I'm a writer and a movement artist who finds fuel through chocolate and coffee 🍫☕️ Looking forward to getting to know y'all! And Kina, I can't wait to witness the new album! Trust your instincts; you'll know when you're headed in the direction the universe is leading ✨ Sending you positive vibes!

Hi there, everyone. I became a Patreon just this month, but some may have seen me around on KG related events in Europe. I've been following you since 2009, almost a decade. I think I was first drawn into your honest voice when I stumbled onto your "You're a God" cover from Vertical Horizon. From then on, I saw your originals, got to know your Crash the Superbowl story and your road to independence. Your battle for authenticity truly inspired me. I bought your cd's, went to your nearby European shows whenever I could. I'm also a proud owner of the DVD case of the boy with a broken heart from the Valentine music video and you've been the only singer that since had a place on the wall of my bedroom. I even volunteered to be a regional co-ordinator for the Kina Grannis Street Team, but I dropped the ball there. I got out of touch while I was figuring things out. I'm sorry I couldn't quite live up to the expectations, it was a bit ambitious for 16-year old me. I kept following you though. I made some great connections to people by recommending your music and bonding over it. Coincidentally, it seems like it's always the kind-hearted souls that are drawn to your music. It's proven time and time again: every comment section is filled with nothing but supportive and excited messages. One of those kind people that I got to meet was Shana. If it hadn't been for you, we might have never bonded like we did. Eventually we got to be together and she's been a Gecko tier supporter for a while now. After considering how much of the good stuff in my life I owe to you, I too decided to support you. And the fact that it helps you getting to Europe again isn't too bad either. Sorry for the wall of text. The take-away is that after all those years I'm happy to do something more to support you and the most wholesome internet community that you've surrounded yourself with. We're excited to welcome you to Ghent, Brussels, Leuven or anywhere near Belgium! Good luck with finishing your album! I'm sure you've been giving it your best.

Hi Kina, I'm Sofia, from Portugal! I've been following your music journey since 2010, when I saw the incredibly adorable video for Valentine :) I only recently joined patreon because I'm studying in university so most my spendings go to that, but recently I thought, "you know what? You are one of few artists that fill my heart with so many emotions when I listen to a new song. Your positivity is contagious and you inspire me to look on the brighter side of life. So patreon here I go!" I am so thankful for your music and the messages in it, I felt like I should give back something <3 Looking foward to seeing the dates on the European tour!

Love it! You're in the homestretch!

Kina, when will you announce the cities you visit for the European of your tour?

WOOO!! Home stretch, this is so exciting! I just joined patreon and happy to be part of the fam :] Can't wait to hear the final product and see you live in LA!!!! <3

Hey, Kina! I just joined Patreon recently. I will be a junior at Northern State University in South Dakota as a music performance major. I play the saxophones (and will hopefully be learning more woodwind instruments) and I'm a soprano in the choir. I first found out about you from my sister when I saw the "Cups" video with you, Kurt Schneider, Alex G and Sam Tsui and really loved your voice. (As well as the whole song and video in itself!) From iTunes and Youtube, I've been listening to your music ever since and I really admire the soft, acoustic, and stripped down/authentic feel. Your album "Elements" helped me to get through my senior year of high school to now as I journey through a lot of unpredictable adventures. Thanks for your music! I can't wait to hear more from you!!! <3

You and your music is so great. And i hope the european tour comes soon. The Album will be perfect.

Yay!!! So excited for the album and to join as a patreon! Hi I'm Rocio i live in orange county CA. I love listening to Kina's music, soul, alternative rock, gospel, hip hop and the sound of the wind. Happy to be here. 🐤
