New Video: Let It Snow (and a discussion!)

Dear, dear, sweet KG Records Family,

Merry Happy everyone! Thought it was time to throw a little holiday cheer into the mix. :)

Here are some things I am excited for this month:

- getting a christmas tree and filling it with tiny woodland creatures

- peppermint hot chocolate with whipped cream

- singing with my sisters

- playing pictionary and guesstures with my family

- christmas soup (i know this means nothing to you but it means EVERYTHING to the grannis family)

- bagels and lox (our weird christmas morning breakfast tradition)

- coziness, blankets, tea, laughter, silliness

What are some things you're looking forward to this month? Share!

In other news, I know we're all receiving word about a change in fee structure here on Patreon. If you haven't heard about it yet, check out their blog post about it here: https://blog.patreon.com/updating-patreons-fee-structure/ The gist is that, in an effort to make sure creators are truly receiving 95% of patron support, they're shifting service fees to be covered by patrons instead of creators, however, that of course means more money out of your pockets... and you're already being so generous with those pockets of yours. I'm interested in hearing from all of you about how you're feeling about this change. At the end of the day the most important thing to me is that you're all feeling good about things, so I'd love to start an open dialogue about it. If at any point it feels necessary to lower your pledge to adjust for the fee (2.9% +35 cents) of course of course of course do so!

Eternally grateful for your awesomeness <3

xoxo

I find it interesting that Patreon has not been thorough about letting people know all of the information about this. It sounds like mostly patrons were notified the first time, and now only creators were notified when they redacted the scheduled change. I like that they're trying to become better, but "plans fail for lack of wise counsel" and I'm surprised that a) they're not fully announcing everything to everyone, and b) they didn't vett these ideas on a pilot group of users before implementation. Having said that, I'll still be here, come what may.

Btw, Christmas soup? I didn’t know there was such a thing. What’s in it?

Hi Kina, this is a beautiful cover ♥️ Anyway: besides you and Jesse I’m supporting one other creator for a combined total of five dollars monthly. Which is about 500 Philippine pesos. Which isn’t really much for me, until I start thinking of all the other monthly things I have to pay. While I don’t think the change will have too big an effect on my ability to provide support, and I have no intention of withdrawing or even reducing my support, the latest news does leave me even more hesitant to extend my support to other creators. I’m also concerned about the other patrons, many of whom don’t seem to be happy about the whole thing, probably because they feel the effects more. As well, Patrons supporting multiple creators might be forced to stop support for some of them - and that’s gonna hurt both patrons and creators alike. All that said, I’m still with you.

Thanks for the lovely cover :). It sounds like you have a wonderful Christmas in store. I'm looking forward to going home and being around family. Last year I really enjoyed seeing new kids in the family and thinking about how family changes over the years. It's kind of hard for me to get totally in the Christmas spirit being away from them and lately I'm considering moving back home next year. Anyways, I don't completely get the new fee change but from what I understand I think I'm fine with it. Thanks for the heads up!

For Patreon to charge a (non-negotiable) service charge to patrons, regardless how small the amount, is a slippery slope towards taking advantage of what is a donation only process. Perhaps KG Records could include a donation button with merchandise purchasing or some similar method via the KG Records website. Kinerds do not need Patreon to support their favorite artist.

I really want things to work out for everyone especially in the music industry. I couldn't imagine music without you and your husband in this world. My heart has always been in the environment and music has always been my enjoyment while working. Keep your chin up!

It sounds like you have lots of amazing things to look forward to this month,,,I would love to know what it is in the Christmas soup :) I am spending Christmas with one of my sisters & some friends, I am heading to Toronto to see the rest of my family in early January. My Mom is having a knee replacement surgery, I am hoping everything will go okay with that. In regards to the service fees, I am not too worried about it. One of the reasons I joined Patreon was to give back something to you Kina, the service fees are not going to change this. Your music has been a gift this past year, thank you so much...I am so grateful. I hope you and Jesse have a wonderful holiday season, enjoy your time with your family.

Okay, if you find a solution let me know. Patrons won´t be too happy to pay more but not receiving more in return. On December 7 I noted my patrons, and two days later I noticed a decrease in pledges by 2 percent already. As for existing pledges I expect an even bigger decrease after December 18 when Patreon notes all patrons about the change. I´m sure that this change will backfire on creators with 95 percent of pledges being a lower income than before the change. Let´s wait, and have a tea in the meantime. :)

❤️❤️❤️

Is really good this year

I will. I think the Hartford Gay Men’s Chorus summoned the snow with their winter performance which

wow never really thought about coffee expenses like that, but incredible how it really adds up! true, people are happy to pay for what makes them happy, i suppose :)

ah how fun! say hello to real winter for me!

so glad you enjoyed this version! and i'll make a note on "last christmas" haha. will definitely be interesting to see what happens come january. hope we can find a solution that makes everyone happy.

ah jen, what a saint you are! thanks for supporting so many creators and trying to look at this on the bright side. truly hope we find a way forward that won't affect patrons so drastically. <3 <3

happy almost birthday, jim! thank you for your support and it makes me so happy to know the sweaters will get some love this season :)

I wonder if a flat fee subscriber service would help. Here's a fact that shocked me as I had worked in a coffee shop for years: We had customers that would daily spend $3-5 a day on a morning or lunch (or both on a drink. If the minimum of $3 were spent for 31 days a month that equates to $93 a month. People will pay for what they really want (or need) every day if it is something they love. I would figure out what a fair amount that everyone can share no matter how many Patreons they support. (Research the average every customer purchases and base a monthly fee on the law of averages.) Then make that fee a fee that won't change for one full year so the monthly fee will be the same for everyone. Require a minumum and maximum amount for everyone. There are some industries that make much more than other industries so maybe base it on quarterly income if someone has a large volume of sales since most businesses are based on quarterly sales: ie: $10,000 for 3 months at a 10% service fee is $1,000 (or 20% for 3 months is $2,000 for an income of $10,000).

Yay! And it’s snowing here in Connecticut!

This was a wonderfully soft version of "Let it snow", thank you. Please, please, please never do "Last Christmas". I hate that song, really. :D As for the Patreon fees, that´s not such a big increase. I noted my patrons about that change, too, and it seems most patrons are okay with it. We will see what happens early in January when the change comes in effect. Then we will see what patrons really think about it, I guess. :) As for now, I wish you, your family, and the whole KG Records family a wonderful, peaceful holiday season. :)

if i only supported 1 creator the new fees wouldn't bother me so much, but since i support so many, i'll have to see how it effects me. mostly likely it'll mean i won't be able to take on anyone new for a while. in the end though, she you get more money, which is the point of all of this anyways, im good to help you out even more!

wonderful rendition of one of my favorite Christmas songs! this song has always made me glad to know that it snows where I live and you two have added an extra charm to it! I'd have to say that I always look forward to my birthday this month on the 21st, even though many people would say the opposite about their birthdays. Also looking forward to breaking out my Kina sweaters and for practicing my singing by singing holiday songs! as for the new Patreon fees, I'll give it some time to see how much it will affect me, but, as you know of course, my support for you will never stop. <3 Jim
