"Keep You Warm" & New Reward!

Hi friends!

Here's "Keep You Warm" with one of my faves, Sam Tsui. He is one of the greatest people ever, so go check him out of you haven't yet! So much love for him and so grateful I got to sing this beautiful song with him :)

In other news, the Otter Patron level ($10+) is getting a fun little addition thanks to some ideas thrown out at our last hangout. On top of 10% off all KG Merch, Otters will now be getting a special bonus video once a month! They'll likely be shot in the old school, sit-in-front-of-my-laptop-and-press-record style--which means you may be getting the less edited, less official, less โ€œpresentableโ€ version of myself (no makeup, crazy hair, pajamas, etc) which I only feel safe sharing with you guys at the moment ;) Could be a vlog, a song idea, a preview of a cover, maybe a trip down memory lane with an old original or cover. I'm excited!

To all my new Patrons, welcome to the family! Feel free to chime in the comments and get to know everyone, we've got some really amazing folks in here :)

Thanks for being awesome,

Kina

p.s. I'll be sending out the MP3 to my Geckos later today or tomorrow, hang tight!

Dang it! I miss the hangout, I need to be more active on here instead of Instagram, Facebook, twitter and YouTube

Kina the song is beautiful. And you're right, you don't have to face the cold alone no more, I'll keep you warm, is full of so much emotion and meaning. As far as traditions, I will say that my grandmother did the same with us, ornaments with name and year on them. Now that's she's gone, it means so much to have those ornaments with her handwriting on them. With my children, every Christmas while they were growing up, when they were small I hand made ornaments for them, and as soon as their hands were able to help, we spent and evening making that years family Christmas ornaments together.

This is a beautiful Christmas ๐ŸŽ„ love song -- it's so wonderful that Sam and you were able to collaborate to bring it to your audiences! I feel the same way about tradition and ritual: it's good to do things with meaning that connect you to your own history and help you remember meaningful things. As far as Christmas traditions in our family, I was lucky that when I married my husband we discovered we both celebrate Christmas morning the same way: no kids out of bed before 7AM, Santa gift ๐ŸŽ and stockings first, followed by a hearty family breakfast (sometimes a casserole of some sort, but usually pancakes or gingerbread waffles), and then back to the tree and taking turns opening presents and reading out any accompanying cards. The whole affair often keeps us busy until nearly lunchtime. In recent years we have been testing out adding new traditions with our family. I'm completely in love with the idea of the Icelandic "book flood," (and as an author and a reader it has been important to me that I've helped instil a love and value of literature and reading in my family) and we are now also gifting each other one book ๐Ÿ“š on Christmas Eve, plus a "treat" (though not necessarily chocolate because my two youngest children are allergic), and we go read them that night. Of course we read the little children's books out loud to them at bedtime. The other thing we've added was going out in the afternoon as a family to attend a matinee movie. I know it seems a bit odd, but it's a big deal for us because we weren't able to do that before a few years ago. We used to have to hurry through our morning and then send our two oldest children over to their mom's house to celebrate with her family, and we wouldn't get them back until much later. It made our Christmas afternoons very lonesome for many years. When they were both old enough to make the decision to live with their father full-time, we started attending the matinees in the afternoon to celebrate that we were able to spend our whole day together. (We also do our turkey dinner on Christmas Eve, another relic of when the two older children had to split the holiday, so the movie doesn't interfere with the turkey ๐Ÿ˜‰) I love your family's decoration idea, though! It's especially heartwarming to imagine that first Christmas away from home, decorating your first "adult" tree of your own, and being able to fill it with all those memories! I just may borrow that, myself. A friend of mine collects nativity scenes (mostly the tiny table top sort, not the large front yard dioramas), a new one each year, and sets them all out to decorate her house with every year. When she told us about it, I could see this look on my mother's face that I could tell meant she wished she had thought to do the same. I hope your holidays are merry and bright, Kina, and all you other Patreon patrons!

Our tradition for every thanksgiving is we are having a theme that everybody should wear, from superheroes, or wearing wigs, and other more.. anyways this song is perfect for this holiday. Love it ๐Ÿ˜Š

wow, I was mesmerized the entire way through this song. just sat stone cold silent in awe the entire way through. In short, it doesn't get any better than this! ๐ŸŽ„โค๏ธโค๏ธโค๏ธJim. p.s. your and Sam's voices mesh so beautifully together on this!

Kina, this song...words just don't seem sufficient but they are all I have so I'll try. I love Christmas music - not all of it, mind you, but songs that capture that magical quality of the season, that conjure visions of hot cocoa sipped by a cracking fire, spending time with loved ones, of reaching beyond oneself to show kindness and love to everyone around are very dear to me. You two have created something timeless that I'll enjoy in holiday seasons for years to come. I am crying as I type this, both from the sheer beauty of the song but also that I was able to help support this in a small way. You and Sam are marvels - thank you for this โ˜บ๏ธ I'm afraid Christmas is also tied to a rather painful memory for me so establishing traditions has been something I've yet to do in a meaningful way - aside from my meticulous decoration of the tree, that is ๐Ÿ˜‰ There is one though...curl up on the couch and watch (drumroll please!)..........................Die Hard! ๐Ÿ˜‚ The best Christmas movie ever ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ Thanks again for sharing your art with us all and for being such a kind person โ˜บ๏ธ

the song is beautiful! I'm not sure the subtitles add much more than giggles...

The song was very sweet :) traditions hmmm...We do huevos rancheros for breakfast every Christmas morning. Also probably a common one but Christmas eve after dinner we load up in the car with the heater on and Christmas music and look at all of the Christmas lights in different neighborhoods.

What a beautiful song, rendered spectacularly! In terms of traditions, when my kids no longer wanted to have their pictures taken with Santa, I couldn't abandon the annual visits. So each year (for the last 12 years) I have gone to the mall for my picture with Santa. The kids (now 19-27) get their own personalized picture! As my beard has gradually turned white, I have begun to look like Santa's younger brother!
