Small announcement

Hello everyone! Thank you so much for your support so far!

Just popping in to let you all know that all tiers will be getting at least 4 chapters a week going forward!

I've received some feedback that $15 is too much for 12 chapters a month, and that is very fair. If I knew a simple way to decrease the cost of subscribing after the initial month, I would absolutely do that, but increasing the release frequency is the best I can do for now. For those of you with more sense (hehe), think of it as a bonus!

Despite all the success, I'm really nervous about the number of people disappearing every day. I hope that's due to economic factors and not the story itself, but it's hard for me to know.

In other news, I'm very close to finishing the first book of the story now! It ended up longer than planned, but I think it is a good ending. I am satisfied.

I hope you will all stick around for it!

The funny thing about all of this is that I honestly think you’d make a lot more money by staying under the cap. You’re pushing away a lot of potential members simply by signaling that you consider yourself a better author than everyone else on RR—which is the impression you indirectly give by pricing the popular tier so high.

The problem is that it has generally been the norm among authors on RR not to go beyond the cap on their highest tier, except for an “extra donation” tier for those who want a more direct dialogue with the author. This cap is respected both by very small authors with around 100 members and by very large ones with 12,000 members—such as Zogarth, who is 50 chapters ahead on RR, releases five chapters a week (chapter length may vary), and still stays within the cap. And your story is good—that’s why I paid for a month myself. But I won’t be buying another month. It’s not because I can’t afford it; it’s simply that going above the cap goes against the “spirit” of RR.

This is what I do as well.

Just posting this to make you less nervous. I pay for Patreon to read a backlog of chapters all at once. Then i will cancel, follow on Royal Road and then sometime after Royal Road catches up i'll probably pay again to read on after some cliffhanger. It is not a reflection on the story but to me it is simply not worth it on any story (so not just yours) to pay every month to keep getting single chapters. So when you see me disappear do not think i don't like the story. I'm just waiting for another bulk chapter opportunity.

TheDude

Noted! I will try to remember to put "AtFC" before "chapter" in the future

This is what I have to do due to my financial situation. I love the novel though; don't worry about that!

It's pretty normal to subscribe for a month then unsubscribe and wait for chapters to build up again

Black Rose

That does seem more in line with what others I subscribe to charge for their stories. Most of the authors I sub to who charge £14.40 ($20) a month like here post once every weekday, or once every day of the week, but don't feel pressured to lower the value of your work if you think it's worth more. Like others have mentioned a bunch of people sub and unsub at random, I know I do. Sometimes it's because I want to let chapters build up to combat the forgetting-the-story-due-to-infrequent-chapters issue, and sometimes it's as simple as deciding that I like the story and wanting to move the subscription renewal date to somewhere else and having to wait over a month to do that lol

tonright

If we're doing feedback, the push notifications for your story just say stuff like "New Post - Chapter 56 - Love at First Sight". I support a TON of authors on Patreon so I am always like "Girl. Chapter 56 of what???" lmao. Sometimes I have to read like two thirds of each chapter before I realise what story I am even reading and then suddenly it's over and I get to forget it all again by the next one. For the love of all that is holy please put the book title in the chapter of the Patreon post title even if it's just an abbreviation or something so I know what I am reading and getting notifications about lmao. If you ever post a second story here it'll prevent a lot of trouble with search too.

Seconded: I often do this as well, especially whenever I realize I have too many patreon subscriptions running concurrently once again, and I need to cut back for a bit.

Mark

At least in my case, I always cancel my subscriptions right after purchase. This lets me enjoy the advanced chapters of a story for a month and forces me to make a conscious decision to continue for another month. I suspect many do the same. I’m thoroughly enjoying your story and plan to subscribe again next month. Have a great weekend!

Don't worry. Many people like to sub, then read all the extra chapters, cancel and then wait until a bunch of chapters have accumulated and then sub again.
